Customizing Arkham

By GalaxyUC, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hey everyone,

Looking for tips or perhaps pitfalls to avoid when customizing a game of AH. Lets say I was looking for a night of undead terror rather than a night of random cosmic creatures, I'd remove monsters I didn't see fit for the night's theme and perhaps some mythos cards that would be now useless based on the theme. AH is brilliant game in it's optional levels of depth. What are some examples or tricks you guys use to take your game to the next level or gear it toward a particular theme??

I never really do a theme based game but I do have a few quirky rules.

1. Typically I play solo, so I roll a dice to determine the # of Investigators I use (max 4).

2. I always pick one Investigator, then draw the remaining.

3. I use one randomly chosen expansion, one randomly chosen herald, and AO. (For example: Dark Pharoah expansion cards with the KiY herald).

4. I only use equipment/spells for THAT expansion (exception: one item form each expansion).

5. Gates are always placed faced down.

6. I never use the same Investigators or AO until I've gone through everyone. Makes for some interesting Teams.

You should just buy Zombies for $24

or Zombie Town might be perfect to recreate Night of the living dead since you defend a house and try to stay alive.

Arkham just doesnt do it for night of the living dead

Well... You could create a herald or Ancient One with strange eons.

I already have a few that play with the Undead's power ratings. And one that would be thematically cool with the undead.

Check out Death, Dracula, and The Lich King.

You can of course, also weed the cup if you really want to. But most of the undead monsters are pretty weak, so you wouldn't have much to work against. Ghosts, Mummy, Wraiths, Skeleton, Zombies, and the Vampire just aren't enough for an interesting game.

Hrm... You should also look through the heralds thread for the relatively recent Werewolf herald that I coauthored with Admiral142. It's on page 27 and has a useful template for a day/night dynamic. A vast improvement over my Lich King for conciseness.
