Interceptors back at it again!

By tko540, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What can I say, I love the ships... and I'm a gluten for punishment. This just a list I've been messing with and have had great results so far. It's a very high risk, high reward type list. The plan has been to run Soontir racing along the flanks being a general menace, while the squad focus fires.

Interceptors (100)

Soontir Fel (34) - TIE Interceptor

Push The Limit (3), Royal Guard TIE (0), Autothrusters (2), Targeting Computer (2)

Alpha Squadron Pilot (20) - TIE Interceptor

Autothrusters (2)

Alpha Squadron Pilot (20) - TIE Interceptor

Autothrusters (2)

Saber Squadron Pilot (26) - TIE Interceptor

Swarm Leader (3), Autothrusters (2)

Tonight and tomorrow are X-Wing night at the local stores so I'll post results.

While Autothrusters is an auto-include for most interceptor builds, I would rather see hull upgrade on Alphas. They just aren't going to be doing any arc-dodging at PS 1 so I think they'd rather have the hull to live to shoot. I don't see as many turrets on the table as I used to either. But if you do and you get the mileage out of it then by all means keep it. Otherwise I could see it really just being up to keeping Soontir alive and making the others hurt something before they go boom. This list relies on green dice heavily. May the dice gods be with you.

I'm still seeing a ton of big ships in my area and keeping out of main firing arc isn't a major problem for me. Points cost, to gain the hull upgrades ... i don't know where it would come from.

Ballsy list! I like it!

I don't think its 'top tier' though. Still, looks to be a lot of fun and you have to be spot on with predicting your opponent to make the most of it!

If you've never had a game where you felt invincible flying the interceptor, you're missing out. While I havnt had one of those games in well over a year I still love the interceptor. It just can't compete today. They've finally scared even Fel away and that doesn't bode well for anyone else (thought I may try snapshot Turr this weekend).

My concern is that those alphas will go down fast, shortly followed by the saber, as they each only have the health of a tie fighter. Personally, I would try something a bit more like this...

"Duchess"
23
PS 8 3 2 4 0
While you have the "Adaptive Ailerons" Upgrade card equipped, you may choose to ignore its card ability.
Swarm Leader
3
When performing a primary weapon attack, choose up to 2 other friendly ships that have the defender inside their firing arcs at Range 1-3. Remove 1 evade token from each chosen ship to roll 1 additional attack die for each token removed.
Lightweight Frame
2
TIE only.
When defending, after rolling defense dice, if there are more attack dice than defense dice, roll 1 additional defense die.

You cannot equip this card if your agility value is "3" or higher.
Adaptive Ailerons
0
TIE Striker only.
Immediately before you reveal your dial, if you are not stressed, you must execute a white ( 1), ( 1), or ( 1) maneuver.

Once per round, after you perform an action, you may perform 1 free action shown in your action bar.

Then receive 1 stress token.
Autothrusters
2
When defending, if you are beyond Range 2 or outside the attacker's firing arc, you may change 1 of your blank results to a result. You can equip this card only if you have the action icon.
Hull Upgrade
3
Increase your hull value by 1.
Royal Guard TIE
0
TIE Interceptor only.
You may equip up to 2 different Modification upgrades (instead of 1).

You cannot equip this card if your pilot skill value is "4" or lower.

The academy pilots have the same health as the alphas, but there are more of them, so when one goes down you still have the full swarm leader effect. And while Duchess is weaker to 2 die attacks, she is just as strong against 3 die attacks as the saber squadron pilot with 1 additional hull; and you keep that massive 5 die attack. Soontir is now also more geared for defense with his hull/stealth device over the targeting computer
