Can I use the Datapad special result of the die to turn the die itself?

I don't think so but...

You resolve the special to turn another die not showing damage . Does not work on itself.

Either way, you're resolving the die, so it's removed from the pool and back to the card. Even if it changed to a different face, the act of spending it removes it from play, rendering the new face useless. Same goes for Focus, and you have no idea how many times I've rolled Focus on the very die I wanted to Focus over to its Special.

Side note: If you turn another die to a special side you can now resolve that die as well. Its a good card.
