I want to give all my Rebel Fleets cool names and backstory! Anyone else naming or giving back story to their CC fleets? maybe even custom paint? Lets start a thread we we can share our specific fleets information, Name:...... Backstory:......... even pic if painted. I know this just isn't me going to do this right? Thoughts?
Naming or backstory for your CC fleets?
Going to name my fleet after one of the houses from Game of Thrones. Unless I get the 'finisher' fleet with an Interdictor, that bad boy will be the "Michael Clayton".
So my longest-running gaming buddies would always laugh whenever they heard me use the word "backstory." I was like the backstory king with my Warhammer and 40k armies. It adds so much flavor and excitement to the game for me. I'm over the friggin' forest moon that they're bringing this into Armada. I would love to see them do something similar with X-Wing, too.
One thing I've never liked about most tabletop games is that they're an isolated event. The rules focus on playing a single game and not much else. GW had been great at creating campaigns and rulesets for a while before they abandoned it (although it looks like they're trying to turn that around). But this campaign will force you into a lot of different decisions.
Do you keep your super-upgraded ship in the fight, or do you hyperspace out of there and lose the battle, but keep your flagship alive? Hell, an entire battle could be played around the idea of sending in a swarm of green CR-90s to suicide at a Christmas tree ISD-II to knock it out right before the final battle. I love this stuff!
I actually wait until after a game or two with a new army or unit before it gets a backstory. I can give all the backstory in the world about hyper-aggressive mentality and then find out it plays better defensively.
In STAW, the local guys named a ship/build I used "Honey Badger" because of the way I fought with it. I would have never thought of that name for a backstory.
In battletech, I played a years long (IRL) campaign with a character who ended up accidentally murdering 4 pilots of the first 6 nechs he destroyed. I then jokingly started intentionally trying to murder pilots (14 murders out of 19 mechs killed baby!). So we jokingly filled in some new backstory about my pilot being wanted dead or alive and that shaped our battles. None of that would have ever occurred to me before starting.
So I will give my fleet a name and/or backstory. Just not until the first battle where something exceptional happens.
Edited by Church14The way I see it (because I will only receive my CC box tonigth), you will be able to put the name of your fleet on the fleet roster. And if you are crazy as me, each of my ship have a different color or paint scheme (because I don't like to put number on my ship). This way, I will have the opportunity to really follow the story for each of my ship and squadrons.

It is fan made, although fantastically, brilliantly fan mad, but the Heroes of the Aturi Cluster is a Co-op campaign for X-Wing. It has AI rules for the Imperials and you and up to 6 buddies/ships form a squadron. It is some of the most fun I have had playing X-Wing.
I also played around with the idea of naming the ships after Disney characters, since Disney owns Star Wars now. Obviously, Imperial ships would be named after the baddies (my triple Vic list included Gaston, Lady Tremaine and Madam Mim). And if I ever trust myself enough with an airbrush, I had paint jobs picked out, too.
And, of course, I'd be reserving Maleficent just in case they ever release an SSD.

They share the same backstory, young fleets that grew up on the mean streets. If you wanna survive, you must learn to go hard, and right for the nards.
Edited by MadaghmireI am nutter this way, my fleet has an extensive history that's in the process of being edited (think similar to Vykes, who was great inspiration, many thanks Vykes), it will be posted online, but will need some editing and balancing. When this is finished (3-6 months, but depends on works and life demands), it will be posted. But that's not anytime soon.
Still working on a backstory for my fleet, but one idea I had to enhance the narrative element of the campaign is to award medals and higher ranks to each player as the campaign goes on. These would be added to a campaign/rank bar for each person to wear during their match.
For example, you could get a medal for destroying a named capital ship, killing an enemy admiral or famous ace pilot, taking over a planet, etc... In this way, each player becomes a character in and of themselves, almost like a character in an RPG.
Nearly all of my large ships have names, and a great many of my mediums do. I expect to be named the Grand Admiral of the Imperial fleet when we try the campaign (since I'll be pushing to organize it anyway), so whichever ISD I'm taking to the field will probably be the regional command ship.
Though I wish I had a Resurgent or heavier on hand for that role.
Sorry, I heard 'backstory' and 'naming' and wasn't sure if I was supposed to sound off or not. Might be some sort of trap.
Yeah, I'm thinking up some stuff for CC, and for the Ceknell reskin. Like, a lot of it.
I like to think of myself as relatively knowledgeable about the Legends canon, but I have no idea who this is. Where in God's name did you find her, Dras? (And obviously, who is it?)

A Reversed Picture of Angela Krin from the Corporate Sector Authority... Captain of a Dreadnaught.
And just a picture I've had on file for this purpose for years.
