Corellian Conflict Map

By Mikael Hasselstein, in Star Wars: Armada

So, the artwork of the map is really awesome!

The shame is that it is on folded paper, which had to be done to fit into the rather small box.

At my FLGS, I organized and resourced the hanging up of a 4' x 6' laminated map of the galaxy. (For an image, see here.) Now, I understand that we weren't going to get a map of that scale or physical quality, but I had hoped for something that could have not been out of place hanging next to my galaxy map.

I'm of a mind to make a replica (not a copy) of this map, which could be hung up alongside this, to represent the campaign. I wonder if anybody else is having similar ideas.

Got a picture of the map from the box?

How did you go about making that 4' x 6' map of the galaxy? I wouldn't mind having one of those added to the collection.

Oh, right, that would be helpful.

There's a guy who contributes to the Rancor Pit, a forum dedicated to the old D6 SW RPG by West End Games. In this thread, he's posted links to his map. I could certainly send you the image that I have, but there have been a few errors that we've found and he's since fixed. You can find a link to a more up-to-date file in the link.

But anyway, it's a vector graphic that allows for good-resolution printing at any size. Therefore, I wanted it BIG. It still cost an arm and a leg to have printed, but I fundraised with my community and my FLGS. Now we have labels in the map showing which regions of space are controlled by which factions (or certain pirate kings) based on our games.

So why not make a playmat version of this? oooooh....

OPPORTUNITY!

Smaller than I thought it would be.... Not a lot but a bit

What do you mean by that? Are you thinking that FFG should do this, or are you speaking of a home project?

It's 24"x18". That's about what I expected.

I don't know what I was expecting

Based on the spread images in the preview articles, it did look more rectangular, but that isn't a huge problem.

i'll be magnetizing mine.

So do you use the map for reference only, or are you supposed to put tokens on it and such to indicate who controls what? Even with a really nice board, how do you track this from game to game, if you don't have a dedicated spot in the house or your FLGS to keep it set up? Are there campaign sheets that track the same stuff that you can write on?

Cool! Can't wait, I'm picking up my copy in a few hours

Well, obviously, you don't let anyone leave until the entire campaign is finished.

Duh.

Will someone be scanning one and cleaning up the lines? I'm buying my map, but it would be nice to have one digitally too.

Darn, I was expecting a cardboard map like a Rebellion.

Well, Rebellion isn't so much a map, as it is a Game board in comparison :D

Honestly the folded paper map is a tad annoying but it can be worked around. Im flattening mine out and rolling it so theres no crease popping up getting in the way.

What bugs me is the stickers....why stickers? something tells me those stickers are going to be a royal pain if i use them....

So, our group is planning an getting a metallic background and putting the stickers on magnets. The one thing that has surprised our group was that it was designed for one time play. We do plan on scanning everything into PDF for future print options if we do mess something up with the originals.

You should see the expressionsof pain when a round of Pandemic Legacy tells you to rip up cards

Well, with the New Objectives being the way they are included, as well as the Squadron Stuff... I can see this as Marketing by FFG...

I mean, essentially, if you have a Group of 6 Players who are in this enough to want to play Corellian Conflict, then they're probably in enough to have their own collections...

So Six Players means six Copies, which means six playthroughs.........

That's convenient...the exact size of the laser cutter bed I have access to.

I'll be cutting an acrylic cover to convert it into a board with depressions where tokens will sit. Of course, that'll also require a cleaned up version without fold marks mounted behind it.

I don't play anymore, so it wouldn't benefit me, but I do think that a playmat version of this might be neat. Maybe FFG will after a while. It's better than a piece of paper. Also, I suspect you could make different campaign maps too?

Most definitely will not be a one time thing lol.

The sheets are literally just letter paper. Scan -> print bam got more sheets.

Only bit that takes a little more work is the mat. I like the magnetic idea but that might be a bit pricy.

You'll have 'sign' stores in your town somewhere - those guys usually have sheet metal cut in roughly these sizes they'll be happy to sell you, given they are using similar things when making signs. It's not that expensive - last time I did that (granted, a couple decades back) it was like $20 for the metal. Then pick up some magnetic tape from Home Depot or whatever to stick your counter copies onto, and done!

to make any backsurface metallic you can use:

Krylon Magnetic Primer 13oz Spray Paint (K03151000)

for magnets I have some of these left over

X-bet MAGNET ™ - Ceramic Industrial Magnets - Round Disc - Ferrite Magnets Bulk for Crafts, Science&hobbies - Grade 5 - 100pcs/box!

it is also easy to find magnets at your local hardware store.

Wait.

STICKERS?!?!

Wha....?
