HoTR Title and sequence

By Cgriffith, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So I have seen two ways of applying the HoTR title with Kanan, my basic understanding is the following;

1. Flip dial and "execute" the "3" manuever

- with this maneuver I automatically trigger the Title.

2. So then I placed the stress token down and finished the 180 s-loop

3. Now Kanan triggers because I did a white manuever and I am stressed - because of Kanan I removed the stress

4. Perform ACTION.

So I was told that I couldn't perform my free action (which I focused) because Kanan ability was my action; which I said is an ability that triggers whenever I need it to. I used this maneuver only once during the match a match which when this maneuver was executed put both my Poe and Rey at range 1. I conceded and didn't focus for the sake of the argument and then proceed to Roll 3 crits and a hit w/Rey and Finn added a hit for good measure. And destroyed his last ship to win the match

Am I using the title and Kanan correctly?

You are correct, Kanan is not an action (would be practically unusable if he was) and does not cause you to skip your perform action step. So you should've been allowed to focus (BTW nice roll, your opponent deserved that).

That's what I thought. My dice were hot last night, thank you for the response

If Kanan was your action, then his card would have an "Action:" header or have something in the text saying to perform whatever action. His card lacks both of those, so it can't be considered your "action" for the round.

Any card that grants you an action will specify that in the text. If it doesn't, it's not an action.

Golden, no PLATINIUM rule of xwing: do what is written on a card not what looks like it does work.

Does Kanan have even a word "action" on his card?

No? So you were permitted to smack the other guy if he argued :D

4. Perform free ACTION.

No free action, it is just your action, from your action step of the activation.

The reason Kanan works on Hotr title and Debris is because he just happens after a white maneuver was finished. Finishing a white maneuver is the exact timing of hotr title and debris, which afaik obstacles dont let you pick which go first they just go first regardless, but in both cases you want kanan to trigger second to remove the stress. Since they are the same time, you pick the order.

Other white maneuvers dont though, like Daredevil, as they assign the stress after Kanan would trigger (whole other can of worms not going deeper into that)

Close, but there's no need for a specific exception requiring debris to be resolved before other "after maneuver" events. Debris stress happens after "Check Pilot Stress" (RR p14), which is the penultimate step of Execute Maneuver (RR p4), so it definitely happens before any "after maneuver" windows open.

It seems like they try to be careful not to put us in situations where there are timing collisions between non-optional rules effects and card effects. Can anybody think of one? Do we have a ruling on whether you can manipulate the order of resolution in such cases?

Oh right right i forgot thats how i thought it was but its after the check pilot stress.

Which is a bit of a snafu with Pattern Analyzer, as you still get your action when you hit debris since now you get the stress after the action.

Yes. Preform "ACTION"
