Whisper + 2 Deltas

By Tbetts94, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm preparing for the Kashyyk Open and I really need to nail down a list early because my free time will be very limited coming up and will only be able to practice one list. I flew this list a week or so ago and placed 2/26 and went 4-1, had HSCP instead of Kallus, but didn't quite like being at 99. Do you think this list will do good in the meta come mid February? What teaks or substitutes should I consider?

Kashyyyk (97)

"Whisper" (41) - TIE Phantom

Veteran Instincts (1), Fire Control System (2), Agent Kallus (2), Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Delta Squadron Pilot (28) - TIE Defender

TIE/x7 (-2)

Delta Squadron Pilot (28) - TIE Defender

TIE/x7 (-2)

Looks pretty good. It's nice and tanky, and can probably deal pretty well with most builds that you might encounter. Are there any builds that worry you more than other?

Its a solid list, although Dengaroo is not your best matchup. Personally, I prefer Rebel Captive over Kallus. Regardless, if you do face Dengar, give initiative away.

What about changing one delta to Omega Leader and putting Gunner on Whisper? Omega improves both the defender matchup as well as Dengaroo and gunner will be quite useful against said defenders as well.

TLT's and high PS PWT'S for sure

Why give initiative away? He'd be shooting before I could cloak. Also rebel captive is something I thought about but every time I run rebel captive in a list I always forget about it. I'll give it another try in this list.

Interesting suggestion. The reason why I didn't put OL in my list is whenever I put it in a sway towards running the Mynock special and I'm trying to create something brand new.

I second the Rebel Captive option, as long as you remember it.

It's really the only slot where there is some customization with this list.

Rebel captive is for your opponent to remember. When your targeted the first time; do your best crying, whining, begging voice,"pleeeeease don't kill me," works every time

Because when a ship with Zuckuss shoots at you, it doesn't matter whether you roll 2 green dice, or 4 green dice or 80 green dice. You end up re-rolling them into blanks!

Its far more useful to be able to position after Dengar has moved. This gives you the option of getting out of Dengar's firing arc (so he can only shoot you once) or knowing exactly what action you need to keep Whisper alive (usually evade----zuckuss can't take away an evade token!)

Giving initiative to Dengar (or any PS9 PWT) when playing as Whisper is suicide.

I'd prefer to run Echo with gunner, other than that I'd maintain everything else.

I know he would only be PS8 instead of 9, but the extra movements you get helps stay out of arc or get a better shot if you know the curves. Plus FCS + Gunner is awesome. focus as your action, dont use focus if it pops let him defend it then FCS + gunner reroll and focus = win.

Giving initiative to Dengar (or any PS9 PWT) when playing as Whisper is suicide.

That's what I'm thinking too. Yeah whisper can get out of arc but Whisper is dead even faster with 2 green dice versus a PWT. I think the best option is to take initiative and then you have three blockers to force Dengars arc to end up where you want it to be.

So I've decided that Rebel Captive is the best way to go in this meta, just played a game with my list versus a list that had Expertise Vader and it completely shuts down Expertise. I think this will also help the Rey matchup since I've been seeing a lot more Expertise on her now instead of VI.

I like the look of your list. I was playing around with a similar one on my blog in April but sadly haven't even ran it yet. Shame on me. Please post up how you go with it!

Good to hear, and please let us know how you go.

Great write up! It's definitely a fun list to fly! It takes a lot of skill and a lot of foresight when trying to get those blocks in. I like the 98 point bid, so I didn't put Tie MK 2 on the baby D's. Haven't needed it much but I have needed the bid. Recon Spec is one Crew I haven't tried (have tried HSCP, Kallus, Rebel Captive). I could see some great use for it, it's next on the table of experimental crews. Gonna also try Intel Agent which may be nice so I can throw Tie MK2 on the baby D's and still have a bid. However, I love the 28 point structure, puts me below a palp shuttle, half on Dash, Rey, Dengar, and most named ships. Even Omega Leader is running at 30 now with people putting shield Upgrade on him.

I just tried Intel Agent as the crew on Whisper and I liked it. I faced Brobots that had Ion Cannons on each plus one had Mangler and other had HLC. It worked out great and forced him to do moves he probably wouldn't have done trying not to get blocked. But that means I'm at 96 points and I refuse to put Tie MK 2 on the Deltas to make them 29 points.

I went back to Rebel Captive, lost versus the same Brobots list. Play of the game was when Whisper was a hair out of range to cloak back up got Ioned and never was able to get back in the game after that. Even then it came down to one hit point on my last defender and one hit point on IG88B.

Then we brought out the film equipment and played my list versus Backdraft, Delta, Major Rhymer list that is actually extremely good with Snapshot, Tactician, Rebel Captive on Rhymer and Light Weight Frame on him and Backdraft. I hadn't beaten the list going into the game with a Phantom yet. I was like 0-4 versus it. That Major Rhymer build just murders any ace. So I played Whisper so carefully that she never got a shot, but she was the true MVP of the game. She blocked, distracted his ships, and let my Deltas do all the work. Ended up coming down to the Deltas versus Major Rhymer. Had to play safe with one Delta but there was nothing he could do at that point. The video should be up in a week or two and I'll post it here.

I've thought of a name for the list, what do you guys think of "Devil's Threesome"?

You could call the list: ▼▼

Two Delta symbols upsidedown (or maybe they k-turned!) to form a blacked out (cloaked!) W for Whisper.

Eh? ...

Well, I thought it was clever...

Alt + 31 on the numpad will do that symbol for you.

Homing missiles could be a problem also, though you don't see them that often...

Here's a pic of my list, I finally found something that will help me remember Rebel Captive!

Played against this list today

(100)

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (65) - VT-49 Decimator

Veteran Instincts (1), Ion Bombs (2), Kylo Ren (3), Hotshot Co-pilot (4), Gunner (5), Engine Upgrade (4)

Maarek Stele (35) - TIE Defender

Lone Wolf (2), TIE/x7 (-2)

First game Whisper just got Kylo'd to death. Second game I changed strategy and kept Whisper away from the fight until my two defenders managed to get RAC down to 4 health and Whisper finished the job. I feel like the two defenders are strong enough to handle that type of work until Whisper is just about ready to come in.

Very interesting read. I'd be curious as to your evaluation of having a third defender instead of Whisper (I know that would probably facilitate a total revamp of the list) as it seems she was secondary in damage output to your two deltas in your last couple of games. My thinking would then be that a third defender active in the fight would contribute to an even faster win?
