Whisper + 2 Deltas

By Tbetts94, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Very interesting read. I'd be curious as to your evaluation of having a third defender instead of Whisper (I know that would probably facilitate a total revamp of the list) as it seems she was secondary in damage output to your two deltas in your last couple of games. My thinking would then be that a third defender active in the fight would contribute to an even faster win?

I've played triple defenders before on a competitive level. They're consistent, but I feel this list has a higher ceiling. This one also takes a lot more skill to fly. Having triple defenders would make the games I win faster, but I like the point structure in my list too much to give up.

I absolutely see your list as a much more skilled based list than 3 defenders, and thus potentially much more satisfying to master.

Yeah, predicting where your opponent is going to move is so difficult but an awesome feeling when you do it. The Deltas and whispers decloak gives three amazing blockers. A lot of skilled involved.

Most recent game was against the same Rhymer/Backdraft list. I was able to pull it out again by trading my Delta for his Rhymer. Neither of us were putting out significant damage because Rhymer stressed out one Delta with a bunch of stress and Whisper skirted around the map and asteroids keeping a consistent threat available but at a safe distance.

Alright Mike Dennis! I got a problem with you! First I run the Triple Defender list at a tournament then you happen to use the same list at U.K. Nationals and make the top tables the very next day?? Now, I'm listening to the most recent podcast and you have stolen my whisper list!!! It's getting out of hand man...

Anyways, played two games today with the list. I rolled 4 green dice and got 4 green blanks and that was the end of Whisper. Can't complain about dice though, I gotta put her in spots to not rely on dice. 2nd game I played I won, I took apart a Ryad, Vessery, and Backdraft build. Traded the Delta for his Backdraft, then Whisper and the Deta had a pretty easy time taking down Ryad and then Vessery had no chance and we didn't finish the game cuz he had to take off. I tried Intel Agent again and ran at 96 points. I can remember Intel Agent every time, but still have trouble remembering Rebel Captive. Intel was great though and helped tremendously against the defenders, especially against Ryad so I can figure out which K-Turn to block. Also handy so I know if the Deltas should target lock.

I want to know the expected hits with Whisper during a game to help me decide on which action to take such as an Evade or Focus, or to Barrel Roll in to take the shot or to just Cloak. I ran the numbers for Attacking against 3 Agility ship (Tie Defender) since that is what I expect to see the most. Later I will run the numbers for Defending against a 3 Attack ship.

Whisper

Attack versus 3 Agility No Tokens

Range 3

No Modifiers: .83 Hits

Focus/TL: 1.58 Hits

Focus & Target Lock: 2.26 Hits

Range 2

Focus/TL: 1.91 Hits

Focus & Target Lock: 2.63 Hits

Range 1

No Modifiers: 1.48 Hits

Focus/TL: 2.64 Hits

Focus & Target Lock: 3.56 Hits

Attack versus 3 Agility Evade Token

Range 3

No Modifiers: .32 Hits

Focus/TL: .80 Hits

Focus & Target Lock: 1.32 Hits

Range 2

Focus & Target Lock: 1.64 Hits

Range 1

No Modifiers: .75 Hits

Focus/TL: 1.69 Hits

Focus & Target Lock: 2.57 Hits

Attack versus 3 Agility Evade/Focus Token

Range 3

No Modifiers: .09 Hits

Focus/TL: .28 Hits

Focus & Target Lock: .54 Hits

Range 2

No Modifiers: .18 Hits

Focus/TL: .52 Hits

Focus & Target Lock: .95 Hits

Range 1

No Modifiers: .37 Hits

Focus/TL: 1.05 Hits

Focus & Target Lock: 1.82 Hits

Without running the numbers for defending against a 3 Attack ship, I'm assuming my ideal/realistic situation is to take range 3 shots at the defenders with them only having the evade token by being blocked by the Deltas. An expectancy of 1.32 hits is solid and my other Delta could follow it up with a range 2 shot that has expected hits of 1.22 (with Focus) and .67 (without Focus).
