Happy Pagan Celebration Day

By Baaa, in X-Wing

And how you are supposed to learn to jugde any maneuvers by just looking at ships...?

Oh I don't know, playing the game maybe?

After hundreds if not thousands of games where i looked at the templates lying next to my cards, i can judge maneuvers without them but it took me like 3 years of playing Xwing to develop that skill.

Cool.

Its got nothing to do with pre-measuring, and its perfectly legal by the rules and spirit of the game. As long as templates are off the game mat you can even stick them together to visualise something none should object about that. Its the skill to move those templates in your mind to the field that matters.

I don't dispute any of that whatsoever. My entire point is simply using the movement templates like that could possibly be considered cheating in a soft manner if a player can't commit to their dial in a timely fashion because they're too busy staring at the template, whereas I believe it's much more fun to attempt the dial because you beleive it's the best move.

Anyway this is out of hand now.

Well playing the game is still using those templates...you still have to look at them you know ;)

It was just personal example how looking at maneuvers can be beneficial...

Usually just looking at dial and wondering "will it fit?" takes way more time than looking at templates. Never encountered anyone who consider it even unsportsmanship, not to mention cheating.

Anyway this is out of hand now.

No its not, we are just talking.

Happy Saturnalia

Roman pagans first introduced the holiday of Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25. During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration. The festival began when Roman authorities chose “an enemy of the Roman people” to represent the “Lord of Misrule.” Each Roman community selected a victim whom they forced to indulge in food and other physical pleasures throughout the week. At the festival’s conclusion, December 25th, Roman authorities believed they were destroying the forces of darkness by brutally murdering this innocent man or woman. Latter the Church use these date to celibate the birth of Christ as it was easier to convert eh Pagans when they held festivals that fitted to the pagan calendar.

In a certain light, it's like pre-measuring to me.

From my point of view the Jedi are evil.

...

Ahem...

But anyway...

Also, it's no more pre-measuring than working out how many base-lengths it is in your head using ships as a reference point, or working out based on where you are on the map where you'll land.

If you know and apply the 'rule of 11', then you've no business whinging about someone having a shufty at their templates as long as they're not on the board.

Finally, its a game of plastic toys? Why the **** do people on here get so bent out of shape about it?(not you Procrastination, you I quoted so I could make that poor episode 3 line, but some people on here do).

No whinging here man, I just made a post that was poorly received.

Good question. I think it has to do with the fact that these tournaments do not have a lot of prizes, so the only thing you can win is status - or a damaged ego! And the game is ambiguous with regards to skill; one can certainly be very good at it, but the element of luck makes it so that you are never completely sure if you are really good or just lucky.

I can see having different colored bases in a squad would aid in remembering certain upgrades but doesn't Attack Wing use the same mechanics for movement as X-Wing? Like templates and bases.

EDIT. As far as "intently peering at the templates" as cheating I think that's going a bit far.

The main difference in terms of physical components (other than the embarrassingly shoddy quality of the actual minis) is that Attack Wing bases have a recessed slot rather than nubs. This actually makes it easier to cheat as you cannot see if the manoeuvre tool is properly inserted or not with the naked eye.

I'm still waiting to find out the cheats.

Base colors change the outcome of the game:

Blue +1 shields

Red +1 auto crit dice

Green +1 evade

Purple +1 extra barrel roll

Orange unlimited illict upgrade uses.

I don't see this changing the outcome of a game. I can see it as a cheap way of remembering what upgrades you have on a particular ship.

How is it more difficult to cheat in Attack Wing? I hardly know a thing about that game - isn't it just a kind of XWM with dragons? What specific difference was this person referring to?

Can't cheat without an opponent.

Practically the only post in this thread worth reading. Thanks for the laugh.
