My question about Nein's ability is, if he has stress before he reaches range 1 does he shed all stress or just the one stress he received to get into range 1?

I built Nien this way to joust defenders then barrel roll out of their arc. It's gonna need some practice. TLT's will be a issue but I wanted to use something other than R3A2. Who would you pair him with? I was thinking Rey.

His ability only triggers when the stress token is assigned. If he already has stress on him, then somehow moves into Range 1, the pre-existing stress stays.

I am guessing the idea came from the discussion that decided that if you move him within range 1 of enemy then do a rage action you will end up with 0 stress due to his ability activating for both stress tokens as they are applied to the ship one at a time. But as already pointed out his ability does specifically state "When you receive..." and not "If you have...." so any stress tokens he had prior to this movement he has to keep.
