What does "Brace" actually do?

By LordTesla, in Star Wars: Armada

I don't mean what it does in the game, it magically halves damage. But what does it represent? Re-direct spreads the brunt of the attack around the ship's shields. So does that mean when a ship "Braces" everybody onboard grabs onto a railing (which are particularly absent in Star Wars) or fastens their seat belt, returns their tray and seat in the upright position and put their head between their legs and this magically 'halves' the damage from from the incoming salvo?

Your thoughts?

Could be anything from rerouting extra power to shields to damage control teams standing at the ready to prevent escalation of damage to evasive manoeuvres or a combination of them all.

It probably enumerates a number of limited capabaility damage control systems...

Shields have power pulsed and are pushed to redline capabilities... But it can't happen to much, or the Generators would explode.

Damage control crews with limited resources are immedaitely put to work...

Triage on Casualties is enacted, and limited reserves of Fuel, Power and Crew are put into action - in effect 'consumed'...

I'd say they shut blast doors around the site of injury like WWII ships closing hatches after a hull breach. But now we actually have Reinforced Blast Doors.

It sends a **** pic of your commander to all of your opponents gunners, distracting them and keeping them frommtaking proper aim.

Probably blast doors slamming shut, emergency force fields coming online to limit internal and system damage.

If your ship is in Mega-Maid configuration, it changes from "Suck" to "Blow".

I can't find it right now... But there is a Picture of Admiral Screed in a Pretty Pink Princess Dress on the Forums....

Thankyou FoaS. I was going to name you as the progenitor of that awesome, but I was not 100% with my memory today.

I made the image, Cynan made the card.

Hahaha thanks guys! I knew you could come up with something funny about it! :P

It must have something to do with maneuver because you cant Brace when going speed 0.

Midichlorians!

Based on the technobabble shouted during on screen battle scenes, both Brace and Redirect probably have to do with rerouting power. Brace means reinforcing shields with auxiliary systems (too much too rapidly and you burn out the reactor) and Redirect means depowering adjacent shield angles to strengthen one under attack.

Extra power to structural integrity fields? In Star Trek at least there are force fields (kind of) in the hull that give it extra rigidity. This prevents the hull to breach or crack open in situations that normally would cause catastrophic decompression. It seems logical that Star Wars ships could have something similar...

And of course, at Speed 0, your Engines - your main point of Reactor Power - are basically Idling and not putting out enough to make a spike difference - hence, you can't spend those Defense Tokens....

BRACE-position.jpg

Captain screams frantically:

BRACE FOR IMPACT!

I recon it is turning off the artificial gravity and using the energy to brace the shields.

Imperial dentist run around placing them on the crews mouths so everyone will have a straighter smile in time for impact.
