I haven't picked one up yet, but I was list building with it when I was thinking something was familiar about this ship. Compare it side by side with a B-wing. They are pretty similar, though the U-wing has no cannon slot, one less torpedo, a less manueverable dial, a new trick and two crew. So pretty close but not quite.
U-Wing ... one or two
Really, the U-Wing is some middle ground between a support ship and an actual fighter. I suppose having them support each other would be fun, but I'd think 1 supporting/assisting your ace would be more than enough.
what is "support" here, though?
does it support like a HWK because of the pilot abilities? Not really, not outside Cassian better-wingman and Bodhi's non-ability
does it support like a Lambda, ie because it has no other choice thanks to its dial? No, because the dial and 0-k cover its options quite nicely
the U is neat here because, unlike most jank, it can just help itself. For example, Jyn does not specify "another friendly." You can just dump the extra focus onto the U itself to modify its offense and defense. Hell, neither does Jan for that matter, which can turn you into a sorta x7 with the help of Rey/Jyn/Recon/Kyle w.e
Hell, your nasic pathfinder with rey and jan is only 27 points compared to a deltas 28. Slap on fcs for 29 total and youve got more mods
combining upgrades with the right pilots, such as Jyn and el Heffe, ensure you can even jank without sacrificing your own modifiers provided you play decently. So even the basic pathfinder is leagues above the likes of esege and shara

It's also quite close to a Phantom, apart from x, y and z!
I mean support as in its doesn't feel like it should be your main ship, or something you build around entirely. Most of its pilots and upgrades seem to focus on making sure other ships (and itself) are more efficient. Stuff like blocking, more effective target locking, removing stress, revealing dials; stuff like that. The fact that it can take car of itself is nice too, and why its not really a 'pure' support ship like the HWK.
That's my take, anyway.
The correct number is zero. It's the most garbage ship--including its upgrades--to be released in a good long while. It does nothing to help address the needs of the Rebels right now in the meta game, and it doesn't fit into or support any of their current viable archetypes (e.g. Ghost/Biggs, K-Wings).
That being said, Inspiring Recruit allows for an interesting build or two across factions, so you might want one or two of those.
Wow, way to think outside the box. The U-wing is similar to the Ghost in that it can be built in many different ways thanks to systems slot and double crew. Cassian alone, gives X-wings/T-70's the ability to K-turn every round with his ability. A stresshog can deal/receive two stress, then Cassian with Inspired Recruit takes it away. That means your stresshog can now kturn and get back into the battle. Three attack dice with FCS/Advance sensors can pack a punch as well, so offensively it can produce also. I really like what the U-wing brings. Not sure if I would run more than 1 in a list though.

Stresshog does stresshog things, but Tarn lets it reroll a dice for all three attacks thanks to M9G8. Cassian is all offense here, keeping his focus for defense. Bistan sends constant crits through on those large ships like Decimators, VCX, etc. Cassian's ability with inspired recruit allows stresshog to have an open dial. When stresshog goes down, Tarn can then have an open dial, kturning every round if need be. Tarn can be subbed for Biggs, to make stresshog and Cassian more survivable, but stresshog less efficient from M9G8.
So, even though I just said that it's not likely to see 2 or more in 1 list, I started looking around at some of the other crew cards to potentially use to spread some focus tokens around besides just Jyn Erso and I remembered Operations Specialist. I read the card and proceeded to go down the rabbit hole with this:
Blue Pathfinder: 33 pts
- FCS
- Gunner
- Operations Specialist
- Pivot Wing
Blue Pathfinder: 33 pts
- FCS
- Gunner
- Operations Specialist
- Pivot Wing
Heff Tobber: 34 pts
- FCS
- Gunner
- Operations Specialist
- Pivot Wing
100 pts of if they evade the first shot, the second shot is going to be oh so mean....
It has my interest just to see how well it would do.
Edited by RStanRstan, you might be able to shave some points and bring in some different crew if you cut 1-2 opspec. Remember, that card is not limited to once per round. Neither is it limited to the ship its on.
If a friendly ship at range 1-2 misses, a friendly ship at range 1-3 of the ship that missed gets a focus. There is no once clause.
The Uwing in the middle has OpSpec and long as you dont fly outside of range2 (which is pretty easy to keep inside), you have that crew's effect for everyone . It does paint a bigger target on his head vs the others, but thats where you play into that by baiting.
Not optimum because if he goes down quick youre in trouble but an option.
Reason I went for 1 on each was because it also says just "friendly" ship, not "another friendly". With that you can Operation Specialist yourself OR another ship if you miss your gunner shot.
I'd say get as many as you can, and then paint all but two. They are good looking ships for the most part.
At least 1. If you Love awesome, gorgeous ships then at least 2. If you Love epic/cinematic play then as many as you can afford.

Actually, i see another reason to have 3.
You have 3 separate ships, which each have a chance to trigger the same effect. Which means each time a ship misses if its in range of 1-2 of the other two, it just got 3 focus tokens.
Its not "once per opportunity" when its a different ship causing a separate opportunity.

With 3 OpSpec you would get 3 foci for every missed attack tho. So everyone can use their focus on defense then miss one attack and focus for everyone!
I tried mine today for the first time and had a LOT of fun with it; flew the mission that came with the box. I can't see running more than one in a list, but I might pick up another purely for repaint.
Ran this last night, in two separate games; 1st game I ran it in formation and used the Kyle Katarn crewed ship to bump, block and force bad manevuers when needed. Always focus fired with all three and jousted in arc with Erso and Ors/Rey Ships it was so surprising it worked. Second game I let the Hera (U-Wing) do endless Pivoting maneuvers and block while the other two just ripped through my opponents.
I just banked focuses' during the opening rounds using focus action. Rey allowed me to stack w/ action for defense then I just used them as needed

Three.
I like the pretty models.
Three.

...AND; The WONDERFUL sixpack of five troopers the trio can drop off... like cartoone moses they fly two by two.
Did somebody need thirty commandos dropped off in front of this here important objective?
I really really like a lot o the crew that come with it. I'm not sure which ones are good and which ones are great yet. But since most of the crew are unique and you get two copies of the one non-unique crew member card, I think one Gould be enough for now.

The U Wing is a great ship for epic...the support ship the Alliance faction is looking for has been found IMHO.

now they just need some better "other friendly ship" crew lol.
Almost every crew they have that can work on other friendly ships nobody EVER uses except on the ship that is benefiting from it (Kanan, Jan).
Which is one of the issues i come across when i listbuild with a uwing. Its a support ship, but aside from Jyn/Jan i really dont see a combo that synergies well. kanan is nice to have around but generally hes unneeded except on the YTs, which would just carry him themself.
Jyn/Jan is pretty good though. Assign 1-3 focus, convert one to an evade. That could easily divert someone's attention away from the ship hes got a R1 shot on.
Thats....it though lol
Edited by Vineheart01soon as you smack rey crew onto a U, it becomes a very solid combat capable ship
you really don't need to worry about supporting at all if you have rey + FCS, though you can always augment with Jyn and el Heffe pilot ability

100pts.
Just wait until the rest of Wave 10 comes out. You'll be able to switch the protos for Rex and Zeb in TIE Fighters, and also free up three points for additional crew/illicit options.
