So, I played a game last night with a Sato proxy. I ran Paragon, Salvation, an MC30T, and two GR-75's with A-wings, against a rebel X/Y bomber wing supported by AF2's and GR-75's.
Power-wise he was alright. Definitely going to take some practice to learn to use him well, I made many mistakes. Won, but just barely.
One thing that ready stuck out to me though was the feel of the fleet. The guns on Paragon were mean. More than just a standoff carrier that might get lucky every once in a while, an AF2 with OE taking Sato shots is putting out some serious threat.
I was pretty excited about this feel in the context of some of the concerns people have been having recently about starfighters taking over the spotlight from capital ships. It really felt like a combined arms fleet instead of the carriers just sitting back as activation ******* for the fighters. Obviously, this wasn't really built as a bomber fleet, but as people start to refine these kinds of fleets, we'll figure that piece out. The important thing here is that the feel is good.
Also, as a side note, my concerns about it being over-costed for the non-reroll interpretation have been allayed. He's still good.
