Hi all!
I got into the game around 10 months ago, and have played something like 10 small store tournaments (around 10-18 players normally) usually finishing around the middle of the pack. I played my first National about 3 months ago (I went 2-4), so I had never placed too high in tournaments, but today, I can finally say I won my first one! Here's how it happened.

My list:

1st Round: Rebels
Wes Janson, VI, BB8, IA
Norra, PTL, Title, Kyle, R2D2, vectored thusters
Biggs, R4-D6, IA

The guy playing this list had stomped my Inq/Bren/Vess list in the Spanish Nationals back in september, so this was revenge time! First combat round I was able to hit Biggs very hard, leaving him on 2 hull and with 2 stress tokens (R4-D6 avoided 2 of the 4 HLC shots) and the "No straight maneuvers" crit, with me only losing 1 shield on the HLsCyk.
Next round I finished Biggs but Wes was rolling hot all the time, and I almost lost the HLsCyk. Luckily for me, with Torkil around, Wes was firing with PS0, so I could use my tokens on offense. A few rounds later I had stripped one shield on Wes and 3 on Norra, but lost the HLsCyk, so I was down by one point. Kaa'to was hanging on 1 hull, but was being very slippery, trying to survive and provide focus for everyone.
With ten minutes to go, I caught Wes in a bad spot when I turned my ships away from a fleeing Norra, who was on 3-4 hull, and faced Wes. I focused fire on him and he blanked his greens so I took him out.
I tried to get Norra but she slipped away and survived on 1 hull.
WIN 58-27

2nd Round: Rebels

Dash, PTL, Kanan, Mangler, Title, EU

This young fella bumped on his first moves, and I got confident, thinking he didn't have much experience, so I took the bait when Jake approached all by himself, and turned towards him. He then turned and ran away, leaving me with no target. Dash raced fast towards me and started doing severe damage. All my ships were expecting to fire at Jake, but as he turned away, I had no shots. Luckily Torkil's TLT was in range and I took 2 shields off Dash. Next turn I raced towards Jake to PS0 him and tried to alpha strike him with 4 TL+Focus HLC shots, followed by 3 TL+Focus Mangler shots. I hit with all 7 dice, but he spent his evade and focus tokens and only lost 1 shield! At least he didn't have a focus anymore so he couldn't fire his prockets and he didn't do much. Next turn I blocked his expected green 2 turn and wiped him out with a lucky direct hit from the Mangler.
Next turn I took out the Z-95 and a few shields on Dash, but I almost lost the Mangler Scyk, who survived on 1 hull, a -1 Agility crit, and a PS0 crit. The mangler scyk then went into super blocking mode while getting rid of the crit.
Dash tried to evade the block, but I managed to pin him to a rock 2 turns in a row. Luckily for him, only the TLT was able to take advantage, as both the HLsCyk and Kaa'to were turning around, and the mangler scyk was making Dash bump. A direct hit killed Kaa'to ahen Dash finally eluded the block but I was able to finish him before he could get another of my ships as he was turned to PS0 by Torkil.
WIN 100-17

3rd Round: Imperials

RAC, Predator, MJ, RC, Gunner
Ryad, Predator, Tie/D, IonC

Last game was easier than I expected. Ryad got in the middle of all my ships and lost 3 shields and 1 hull in one turn. The Decimator only did 1 damage so Gunner didn't trigger. I spent my evade token to evade Ryad's Ion and triple evaded his primary shot. Strong start for me.
I got Ryad to 1 hull next turn, and she died the following one, finally ioning my stressed HLsCyk. RAC killed Kaa'to and the Mangler Scyk before being shot down by Torkil and the HLsCyk.
WIN 100-41

First place for me! I was lucky to not face my buddy with his Asajj, Bossk list that had stomped me a few days ago. He won his first game but was paired 2nd round with my R1 opponent, who beat him.

Awesome event even if we were only 8 players due to some late drop outs.
I got the challenge coin, Corran promo card, Predator promo card, and 3 stress tokens.

Nice list. I like Tracers on Kaato in a Mindlink list. Cloaking HWK is something I haven't tried enough yet.

Cloaking device mitigates (a bit) the lack of a good dial on the HWK. Cloaking+SPA is best used when the HWK is the last ship standing. You: Cloak+stygium. Survive enemy shots. Decloak, stygium+eyeball+Dengar to punch enemy defences and you still have an evade for defense. Being 32p can sometimes be enough to win if the game goes to time

Nice list indeed. I was playing around with cloaking HWK myself but with different approach. I guess ill try you'r list mate next local (well next after next cause closest is today and im already at work with different ships packed )

Thanx! It's a really fun list to play! After winning my first tournament, I got TWO 2nd places in the 2 following tournaments. I've even been able to beat (with a little luck) a mindlinked Manaroo/Teroch/Fenn very sharp list played by a very good player (last regional winner). Try it out and tell us how it goes!
