Thoughts on U-Wing Blocker Build?

By CBS Ink, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey everyone,

Please let me know what you think of this build.

Roadblock Squadron

Norra Wexley - Arc170

- BB8 (2)

- PTL (3)

- Kyle Katarn (3)

- AO (0)

- VT (2)

Thane Kyrell - Arc170

- R4D6 (1)

- Inspiring Recruit (1)

- AO (0)

- VT (2)

Blue Squadron Pathfinder - U-Wing

- Reinforced Deflectors (3)

- Zeb Orrelios (1)

- Cassian Andor (2)

- Pivot Wing (0)

- Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)

100pts.

My thought for this build would be that the Pathfinder (PS2) would be the Blocker, making good use of Cassian, Anti-Pursuit Lasers and Zeb... along with good defense in Reinforced Deflectors when shooting with Zeb.

(Im still up in the air whether or not to keep Zeb)

Norra would be doing "Norra Things". She probably wouldn't be the first target because of Thane.

Thane would be pretty well protected with R4D6, as he would probably be the first target. He also has Inspiring Recruit to remove the Stress that R4D6 could give him (as well as his buddies).

Let me know what you think.

Thanks guys!

It really seems like Heff for an extra point would be the default blocker, finding that extra point elsewhere. Where else can you get an extra action for 1 point with a ship doing what it's built to do?

if you just want to block, a prototype a-wing is a far superior investment

if you actually want to do anything, i.e damage

1.) el Heffe (free action on enemy overlap)

2.) FCS (always)

3.) screw anti-pursuit, they're dicey as hell and trigger very rarely

Jyn is also great on el Heffe; helps support either him or your squad

also, Biggs

Thane there is contributing jack diddly squat to the squad and r4d6 is just liable to make his ability useless

My default U-Wing blocker looks something like this:

Heff Tobber:

- Cassian Andor

- BoShek OR Zeb OR Jyn Erso

- FCS

- Pivot Wing

Throw in Anti Pursuit Lasers if you have the extra points. Use Jyn if you want to help support the squad further. Use Boshek to become an even bigger pain as a blocker. Use Zeb if you're strapped for points, but if you really like Zeb, Heff Tobber is the best type of UWing blocker to have Zeb on since he can action once he's bumped and it's likely that he'll have a focus/target lock on that ship that just bumped.

Thanks for the good advice.

What do you guys think of this update?

Norra Wexley - Arc170

- BB8 (2)

- PTL (3)

- Kyle Katarn (3)

- AO (0)

- VT (2)

Biggs Darklighter - T65 X-Wing

- R4D6 (1)

- IA (0)

Heff Tobber - U-Wing

- FCS (2)

- Jyn Erso (2)

- Cassian Andor (2)

- Pivot Wing (0)

- Engine Upgrade (4)

99pts.

I put in the Typical Biggs.

I also put in Heff with FCS, Jyn, and Engine Upgrade.

I actually like the idea of Boosting out of someones firing arc if someone bumps but I'm not completely sold on it.

Any suggestions?

What do you think?

I think it's a good starting point. If you're having issues with Norra surviving late game after Biggs dies, then I'd switch BB8 for R2D2 and Kyle Katarn for Tail Gunner which only that will put you at 100 pts. Also I'd play around with putting M9-G8 on Biggs and swapping Engine Upgrade for Anti Pursuit Lasers. Engine upgrades are always really nice for big ships, but I'm not sure how they'll do on support ships. Again, it's a better starting point and there are options to play around from this variation.
