Aren't wing guards already a soft counter?

Since it is 'when you declare' the keep the peace ability kills the droid before the damage is done (when their command deck is empty that is)

Costs a lot more time and effort to keep doing damage with the droid that way since it has to respawn and take time to move again.

Good idea!

However, your opponent will likely just discard a CC rather than take the 1 damage on the droid. But even so, it puts your opponent in a situation where he has to discard a CC *every* time he attacks. That starts to get expensive quickly.

Also, what's to prevent the Droid from just attacking the Wing Guards? They can't protect each other. Although if you could set up right where only non-Wing could be gotten...

But that's why you place a wing guard behind a wall of other units, so that the Guard can't be targeted. The positioning really isn't all that difficult if you think ahead.

Its been a while since I looked at the bespin rules, but I'm pretty sure that doesnt stop the droid. The droid can share space with figures, so he can just stand where your "wall of units" is and attack the guard.
