ISD Errant Venture And Interdictor Repaint

By SmurfWedge, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

Hey chaps

Since I had 2 ISD's I decided to paint up the one as Booster Terrik's ISD......The Errant Venture.

Just for fun!

However when its on the table burning down opposition, its actually the Harbinger.

I've also done a repaint of my Interdictor, Iron Silence

Went with a standard Imperial Grey all over with a painting of the gravity wells.

Just thought I would share. Hope you like them.

Apologies about the poor standard of the pictures.

That Interdictor is really nice! Love the blue as opposed to red for the grav wells. If it were me though, I would dry brush all of the edges on the ISD lighter to make it pop a bit more.

Thanks for that mate.

Yeah the pics don't really show it very well but it actually has a wash and has been lightly dry brushed. Looks a bit better in person.

Maybe I need to give it another once over to make it pop a bit more.

Will the ISD is certainly very red, could use more in the venture of contrast to bring it to life. Interdictor looks alright, if a bit muted/faded.

Nah, the Interdictor is ace! That happens with models one main colour in photos sometimes. Detail gets lost a bit.

drybrush with a dark orange very lightly and it will give the model more depth over all....maybe 1 drop yellow to 7-9 drops of your primary.

Thanks for all the advice chaps.

It does look very red in the photos and look better IRL.....however I do think it needs more of a highlight.

Syg I'll give your drop of yellow in the red a go.

It's tricky, I just did a whole ISD as well, and I feel I made the shading too subtle / not enough contrast. But at this stage I need to step back, I'm not picking it up right away. (We'll see how the photo shows it, my apartment is dark, so go go gadget long shutter) If you are shooting high ISO you will lose some colour as well, but those shots don't show any signs of high noise.

Yea, it's hard to get detail to come out in pictures of monotone models, even with washing and drybrushing. One last trick would be to add a couple more drops of yellow and intentionally drybrush only the most extreme edges but thats a hell of a lot of work on an ISD model.

At the end of the day, there is going to be a bit of an association disconnect anyway. There is, after all, but a single red ISD xD

I basically just used my phone. Haha. But the lighting is not great where I took the pic. I do think I'll get stuck in a bit and see if I can make it pop a bit more though.

I was considering lining every panel....but sanity prevailed. Haha.

Drybrushing is the way to go....think it turned out quite well on the Interdictor.

Gotta line all the Panels, it is pretty much mamdatory. Personally, i don't really dry brush. Generally dislike the look.

If I paint a ship red, I also use the games workshop colors. Chaos red or Blood red, with a dark red wash, then highlighted very lightly with dark pink to white picks out the details nicely. Just remember to use very very light strokes with white .

A good way to hi light red is to add some flesh colour into the mix. If you add yellow it goes orange. If you add white It goes girly pink. But adding flesh does neither and gives it a warm hi light.

Thanks Madcat

Good catch

You should make Errant Venture much more battered. It wasn't properly maintained after all :)
