On the fence... 2 Imp Squads II or 2 Arquittens

By Hamanu1, in Star Wars: Armada

I'm getting one of each, but I can't decide which one to get an extra of. I can squeeze enough funds to get one bonus but which?

2 Arquittens seem like solid flanking fleet to complement and ISD (or 2), whereas 2 sets of fighters means, well 4 TIE DEFENDERS :D

What would you guys do?

Buy one of each and then test?

2 squad packs. The Arq is like 60 points just for the base, so fitting 2 with titles and upgrades can get expensive with an ISD already mixed in. Squad packs gives you more versatility in the long run if you run squad heavy.

If you don't run a lot of squads, don't get 2 since each squad itself is fairly expensive, 14, 15, 16 and 22 points.

I'm doing one and one to start with.

Normally, I would get one of each, but I'm ordering from the UK and, since bookdepository no longer has anything post wave 3 (as per Asmodee online cutoff) and the stores in my country don't stock Armada my friend and I buy most or all of a wave in bulk to save on shipping.

Second squadron pack seems to be the right solution.

After all, I played Tie Fighter in the 90ties and have to overuse Tie Defenders :D

Hey mate if you haven't yet check out wayland games, they have great discounts (not as great as book depository but very close) and free shipping on orders 50 pounds and over, it's where I'm getting my armada as I am broke, they have a brick and mortar store in the uk as well as the online shop. I vote for an extra squad pack.

This is the right answer.

Both the Empire will compensate you if you lose

I'm going for 1 squad and 2 Arquitens. I tend to run Fighter screens more often than not (and the squads look expensive) and I also love symmetrical fleets. My first fleet will be, Vader, ISD and 2 Arquitens

Arquitens!

Artys

Can easily fit two and an isd and a gonzati or two with support from older squadrons (but they check out, sir)

besides, new empire squads are expensive pointswise, the unique squads seem particularly powerful, and you certainly wont be spamming stuff like the lambda

So one should be fine

2 arqs 4 squadrons. but i have a problem

No your opponent does, 8 TIE-Defenders worth of problems

Just wrote a list with Vader 1 isd2 2 light cruiserswitch, a Gozanti, and 5 defenders. Might do two isds and a swarm of decimators.

x2 Arquitens is my plan. Will I run both of them at the same time? Maybe, maybe not. But an extra copy of some of the big ship buff cards (Damage Control Officer, DTT, and Reinforced Blast Doors) sounds pretty good.

I know i personally cannot only run a single cr90a

If youre dedicating to any form of long range fire support, youre going to want multiples with modifiers to make any sort of impact

Argh... you guys just have to make me doubt my decision now, don't you? :D

The Arquitens is I think the single best Armada expansion yet.

The ship is awesome and easy to field two of in a fleet. It only needs moderate upgrading to be effective.

But the upgrades -

Dual turbos, blast doors and damage control officer are all worth having multiples of I think.

I'm the crazy person getting ultimately three Arquitens cruisers and three Imperial Fighter packs. I intend on trying the 6x Decimator screen at least once.

Between the two your better bet is probably more fighters. Imperial large-medium ships are generally self-sufficient... but in the modern universe, having more of the Empire's superior fighters can help offset the advantage the rebels have. As a bonus, Empire fighter command ratings are usually higher, so it's better to make the best of this with better quality fighters.

Go for what suits your play style. Better yet, go for one of each, and see first hand which suits you.

Personally, I'm going with a pair of Arqs, and leaving the squadron pack for a while, but that's because I rarely use squadrons of any sort. I love me some TIE Defenders (thanks 90s DOS gaming...), but I can't see myself flying them any time soon, so I'm doubling down on my ships.

1 Squad and 2 Arq at first from my POV. The new Imp squads do not scream "spam" to me personally. I know people want 8 Defenders or 6 Decimators, but I'm not so sure about those lists.
