2016 was the year I started getting into xwing. I went from owning nothing to having almost every rebel expansion (tantive, looking at you here), and most of the scum. I've had a great time finding a new addiction and getting to play with friends from work (and making new ones - the office has a Friday xwing lunch where we take over a conference room and play).

Looking forward to 2017 and trying out more lists as I keep experimenting with what I can create... Even with what I have now.

The beginning was great, just started collecting so flying lots of rebel stuff. Early highlight was making the cut at a small store championship (26 ish people) with Jake, Keyan and Roark.

Then I basically went S&V and won a couple of Small tourneys with Dengar/IG-88 B. Then a few wins and high rankings with Triple X7. Now I'm just finding my feet again in the new open Meta. And loving flying lots of of very Different Squads. Although the best thing was almost completely dodging the Triple Torp scouts.

The best thing is though my FLGS group is getting a bit bigger, and now I have people I can go to other local tourneys with and not be a billy-no-mates.

Looking forward to a Regional in 2017. My first properly big Tournament.

2016 was my first full year of X-Wing play (started Nov. 2015). I feel like that one comic everyone references "Mistakes were made" because I told myself I'd slowly build up my collection only getting maybe 1 ship a month and focusing on just one faction at a time. That lasted all of 1 month and I started amassing as much as I could get :D

I've been part of 3 HotAC campaign seasons. First season I went for a BWing, second season I had a lot of fun flying a scum bombing Y-Wing, and this fourth (I wasn't able to participate in the 3rd) season we just wrapped up, I flew a target lock supporting ARC-170 with M9-G8/Tarn/Weapons Engineer/Dutch as the core. It's been awesome over the whole year seeing my local store gain a large community of X-Wing players to the point that our 4th season of HotAC had 3 campaigns run simultaneously all culminating in a MEGA game when we all assaulted a Star Destroyer (printed a very large top down view of one) with our HotAC ships.

Competitively, I tried out X-Wing Store Championships late 2015 and early 2016 in which I did mediocre to bleh. Definitely good experiences to see what was being played, but I took a break from it for a bit. I wish I could've participated in my store's X-Wing league more, but schedule didn't match up well. Hopefully I get more time for it this year. Later on in 2016, I got to play some more X-Wing as my schedule changed and my nights were a bit more free which led me to try out some competitive builds with the new Wave 9 ships. There I found my love for the Shadow Caster and specifically Ketsu. I've been wanting to implement tractor beams into my lists, but there was not a great way for it until then. With some 2 months of practice, I went to my first Regional, placing 25th out of 122! I was extremely happy with the results going 4-2 only losing to 2 top 16 players. I'm looking forward to more competitive play in 2017. A few people at my local store want to get into more competitive play and hopefully in 2017 we'll be able to foster a healthy and supportive competitive community at our store too.

Favorite Ship 2016: Shadow Caster (Ketsu)

Favorite X-Wing moment of 2016: Playing that first game with my father, using only TFA core set elements. Why? It started him down the same path I had started only about a month beforehand, and he's gone as full-in as I have (I think his fleet might actually be bigger).

I've got another player outside of a trip to FLGS within a ten minute drive, and one who's open to the occasional weekend epic instead of the 100 points we normally do.

i literally started this year, back in April.

Probably one of the very few good things to happen this year was graduation from college, landing a job in my field, and getting into xwing lol.

Im a major fan of unique flight pattern ships, so defenders/phantoms/strikers/SFs/T70s are easily my favorite ships. SF is probably my favorite ship of this year's release since i have had...maybe 5 imperial games since Backdraft was a thing where i didnt have him? lol

Im used to 40k prices, and since i stopped playing it i have my 40k budget to spend on xwing. Meaning in just the time since April i already own every expansion except the Iggy ships, purely because i just dont want them. Not a ton of repeats except tie fighters but a fair bit of repeats too. Best part? 40k budget wasnt broken. Not even close. rofl....

Gotta say, find it bizarre that theyre so manyx7s seemingly the world over

Weve had them in nyc, even won a prescout nerf tourney with two and deathfire

But now? ******* up and vanished

Its like wave freaking 5 over here now, actually. Last tourney, every goddamn table had a dash or rey + 1 deci floating arp

Ound in the background

Only break there are the three scumlords

1 yv (partybus, party bossk bus- bossk crew gunner and hotshot, Palob) or dengaroo

2 sabine caster double r4 tlt Ys

Mr mindlink (manny, rau and asajj) who just recently won his first tourney :D

havnt seen an x7 outside paired with the deci in a damned dog's age

Won the largest X-Wing tournament ever.

2016 has been crap with my personal life, but my X-Wing life has been great. First full year of X-Wing and went to a ton of tournaments. My first ever Regional I placed 17th out of 120 or so people. Yes, 17th stung but I think it will do me more good than harm as far as future play goes. Below is my tournament record for 2016. FFG has also made my 2016 worth enduring with the expansions and prize support being so good, I look forward to every tournament.

2016 Tournament Results

68-22-0 .756

8-1st Place Finishes, 4-2nd Place Finishes, & 2-3rd Place Finishes

Started playing X-Wing in the spring, mostly with Scum ships because I liked their looks and Most Wanted, at least, gave me some iconic ships. I was able to pay for all of it by auctioning off a lot of old collectibles that I hold no hope of playing again. I actually have won more often than I thought I would starting out, so I guess I have a decent spatial knack for handling the manuevering. I had a lot of trouble keeping my Aggressor on the board, but it finally worked out. I have expanded my collection to having strong Imperial forces, mostly from Veteran package. Acquiring HotR gained my a Falcon and X-Wing T-70.

Most fun ship has been my Protectorate Starfighter, deployed in my Scum aces: Teroch with VI and Talonbane Cobra with Fenn Rau. When the dice are hot, it's amazing.

I've been thoroughly slammed in two tournaments, but I won a C3PO as a Consolation prize, so how can I complain? My third tournament saw me at 2-2. and in one of the losses, only 8 points from a tie-breaker.

Looking forward to the rest of Wave X and 2017.

Happy New Year to everyone on the Forum!

Wow! Hard to believe so many ships came out this year! Almost seems like some of them came out last year! Here's my three favourites, one per faction list, God bless :D!

2016:

Highlights:

-Buying a glass trophy case and filling it with ships

-Falling in love with SLAM --> Conner Net --> Sabine

-Trying out HOTAC

-Getting beat by gf

-Rogue 1

Lowlights: Bank account status

I quit playing X-Wing and learned to rejoice.

I broke my hip in a slip & fall at work and get to 'live the dream' of Workman's Comp (/sarcasm)

I used the money I saved from X-Wing releases that I didn't buy to instead resurrect my interest in historical wargames like ASL.

That is all.

This is an excellent list. To elaborate why I'd rate it about the same:

1. Remember when Epic ships became cool and interesting to play? This release was loaded with great ideas, including some interesting TIEs, but really its all about those huge ship mods.

2. The Ghost is such a neat complete package. It's such a fantastic buy for a fan of the show that's got a ton of life in build variations just in the box. Seeing the whole cast put together both as pilots and crew with a great mix of new ideas made this a winner.

3. The Vic Viper could have been another lazy retread of a tired design like most of its scum small ship brethren, but it instead turned out to be a great experiment in expanding the design space of the basic starfighters. One of those simple, cool ideas that make you wish they'd go back and rethink some existing designs.

I made the choice in Dec 2015 to go to worlds 2016, so my year started with an extremely competitive mindset in place.

Won a store championship (OGP Palp w/Baffle, Whisper with SJ, Omega Leader), got 2nd place in another, forfeited another T4 game with another player to let two players that had not won a store champs to actually play each other for it. Consistently in top 25% of local store champs. Settled in on Palp/Aces for the competitive year. Flew just about every incarnation of it I could think of.

Hoth: Flew the SJ incarnation of "the mynock special". Made Day 2, ended up 5-4 after all said and done. Had TONS of fun in Hangar bays, winning one. Didn't lose in team epic, got 4th place. Hucked a couple bad dice in the mississippi river on the way back. Laughed way too much, drank way too much, totally worth it.

Put on "X-Wings over the Rockies" tournament in Denver. 4000+ people walking by your tournament is amazing. Gave last place guy the best modded ship on the day and felt great about it (he eventually won a tournament with it!)

Regionals season: Went 4-2 in Denver, 5-1 in Montana and made Top 8, being knocked out by carpool player. Palp/Whisper/OL ride again.

Summer: LOVED LOVED LOVED Imperial Veterans. Defenders are still amazing ships, but moreso now. Flew the hell out of them all summer both casually and competitively. Started getting together worlds list with OGP/Palp/Baffle, Carnor, Ryad Put in 20 games or so, won a 24 person tournament with it. Casually playing scummy stuff and really like Fenn Rau, but nothing competitive.

Worlds: Put in weekly practices with other local worlds attendees, had about 50 games total with list of Juke Maarek, PTL Carnor, OGP/Palp/Baffle. Came in 65th on day 1 but didn't make the cut with 3-3 record. Got 1/3 of damage deck signed by lots of judges, designers, etc at worlds and had one helluva time! Realized I didn't practice enough with that list, but very happy with how I did on the day. Played in 1 hangar bay, got prizes from a 2nd without playing (not enough to fill a pod). Met lots of podcasters and had an overall blast. Discovered that a shot of Fireball in a Hard Cider is the nectar of the gods.

Week after worlds: Regionals in NE. Awesome!!! Couldn't come up with something with enough practice so took my worlds list for its last hurrah. Had the opportunity for a top 8 cut but lost the last game. 4-2, ended up something like 18th I think. Officially now back in Casual mode. Drank way to many FireCiders in NE with friends.

Early Dec: Put on another tournament "Store Wars". Painted and gave away gungan themed ships (among others), hilarious!

Now: Baby on the way and close, definitely winding down into full-casual mode. No serious lists, no plans for more regionals, no major tournament hostings on the horizon. Got back into painting and loving being a casual again. Can't wait to get Duchess and Echo on the table simultaneously. Should be a fun combo and can't wait for the mighty bat wing!

Rogue 1 was amazing by the way. Definitely making time to see that more.

Overall? I'd totally do this year again. The community makes this more fun than other games I've played. But oh, destiny, how you've already made yourself known to my wallet...

2016 is the year I returned to X-wing. I'd call that a good year.

Pros

–Imperial Veterans

–K-Wings (favorite NR fighter)

–working on a couple mod teams for RTS games

–more disposable income

Cons

–No Gunboat

–Interdictor (not going to call it Punisher) is failtastic

–Star Wars Rebels still exists

–Local gaming scene died

–FFG releasing all the House of Mouse ships

X-Wing highlights for me are the x7; finally got a Imperial starfighter that holds up in Epic play.

Nearly all the ships that were new in 2016 have added great new ideas to the game--condition cards, stolen ships, rear arcs, positional turrets, the ability to change the battlefield, and Turn 0 planning.

More importantly, I've gotten a lot better at flying.

Personally, I think the game has finally gotten complicated enough to be truly interesting--lots of ships, lots of combos, new options, and a meta-balancing that seems to be finding its center.

Downside is the red dice tossathon of power creep. A game that started with 2 dice attacks is up to 8 dice. Also, the lack of a campaign set, huge ships and no support for Epic play at all in 2016. . .the Gozanti was end of 2015, and there is no sign of Scum huge ships at all.

More named Imperial pilots/crew would be nice. . .the Rebels seem to get all the known heroic faces, while the Imperials get made-up callsigns.

I played a lot more this year than 2015 (my first year, and only started in Q4), really enjoyed the community and started seeing some drastic improvements to my play. Dropped A-Wings from my squads and started focusing on Corran, Wedge, and Poe. Finally started flying large base ships. Since early fall I have been flying YT1300's and E-Wings pretty consistently until...

U-Wing!!!

I love the U-Wing, it has been by far my favorite expansion to date. The Ghost is a close second, only for the upgrades as I use the crew cards from that kit a lot! But have only flown the ghost once since it came out.

I picked up pretty much everything released in 2016 and really have enjoyed something from each one so far. Biggest disappointment was the Protectorates, I expected myself to be flying these like I used to fly GSP's on a regular basis. But alas, I just don't feel them as much as I wanted too...

I flew Dengar once, felt like cheating (flew it with a Shadowcaster)

I hate Shadowcasters. I really hate facing them. My local meta is full of them and they like to stomp me into the ground real good like. I almost always go for them first, and I consider it a win if kill it.

What is it with the local game scene dieing? In my area, there are nights for Magic, Pokemon, Pathfinder, and Dungeons and Dragons. No Star Wars.

wow, we got X-Wing consistently at 3 locations weekly, and 2 other locations at least monthly. There are other locations trying to startup. In theory you could play Tuesday-Sunday at a different store every night. and we aren't even considered a large city.

Started playing July of 2014. Love the game and am lucky to have a weekly group that hasn't missed a Pewsday (Tuesday night) in 2 years. In 2016 it just got better. I make a point to try out everything, maybe not every pilot but certainly every ship. This year did not disappoint. I thought every ship brought something new to the game and helped balance with everything already in the mix. I am glad the Jumps got nerfed, but that was a great month or so...good hard errata this year as well. Needed changes made.

This year I picked up:

  • Ghost x2
  • Inquisitor's TIE x3
  • Mist Hunter x3
  • Punishing One x3
  • ARC-170 x2
  • Special Forces TIE x2
  • Protectorate Starfighter x3
  • Shadow Caster x2
  • U-Wing x2
  • TIE Striker x2
  • Imperial Assault Carrier 1
  • Imperial Veterans x2
  • Heroes of the Resistance 1
  • and a substantial investment in Battlefoam.

2016 the Year the BAD GUYS won.

Rogue one gives hope to those willing to sacrifice everything to fight back though.

Fell in love with the Inquisitor.

Fell in love with the Countess.

Looking to fall in love with the Duchess.

The end.

PS - Tomax and Deathfire, I still love you too, but we'll just keep that between us ;)

Early in the year I came back to X-Wing after a 6 month absence (born out of my disgust for the fat turret meta of 2015), and happily discovered that the Empire was actually playable again.

So I started playing this game competitively, which I don't regret.

Tournament wise, it has been a good year.

- won two smaller local tournaments, using mixed scum lists

- 2nd place at an SC (35 players) with a Soontir Crackswarm.

- top 4 at the Linköping regional (58 players) with triple aces (Whisper, Inky, OL)

- top 4 at the Malmö regional (36 players) with Palp aces (Inky and Vader)

- made it to the second day at Naboo Open, but just barely missed top 32 (same list as Linköping)

And the year ended with an awesome Star Wars movie, completely wiping out the utter disappointment that was TFA.

Honestly not much for X wing in Rogue One but a few capital ships that will be fun in Armada. Good to see the dudes from the Cantina in R.O.
