Rogue One Scarif Shield Gate play mat?

By apegod, in X-Wing

Absolutely, but how would you close the shield?...

I think that gate should be open on the play map and the you drop a paper piece printed with the image in the middle of the gate to close it. This could be part of a scenario along with some defemse turbo lasers rules.

Yeah, it'd be cool if it came with a scenario based around the Rebels trying to get through the gate or something. It's minor, but it would make it more than just a play mat.

Yeah, I would take this over that silly prospectively oddity of the hoth map anyday. The space battle was really the only passable part of R1 for me and such a map would be beautiful for me.

Coster.

Just what we needed... a Druish playmat!

I like the image for a mat but you'd have to get rid of that Giant x-wing. otherwise it looks like that awful Hoth mat.

I like the idea of the mat.

And really love the idea of incorporating the gate into a scenario, but if the gate is close enough to interact with in any way it's not going to work. The thing was so massive that it's not going to fit on the table.

For Armada you could print out the thing in vague scale and have it on the board (even have it's turbo lasers firing and ties launching), but for XWing it's probably better to go with the old fashioned "race to the table edge" style.

I agree it would be better without the X-Wings in the image. I think the shield gate space platform should be about 18 inches in diameter. That would put the gate opening at around 6 inches x 4 inches. Which I think is a good size for an objective to fly through. The platform is smaller because of perspective. The battlefield is above the plane of the station. That's okay. It looks good on table and is true to the film.
