I feel you, but considering we don't see the U-wing again in Episodes 4, 5, 6, or 7, it's a safe bet FFG won't make another expansion with it. I really really wish Disney had been more forthcoming about what was in Rogue One so that FFG had gotten the chance to make a side gunner Ion Cannon upgrade. But maybe Disney did, maybe FFG considered it, and rejected it - the arcs on the thing being odd, a 90° auxiliary arc on each side?

As I have said several times in various places, my bet is we'll see an expansion with a Blue X-wing and a Gray Y-wing. Maybe SWX58 got pulled because it would have started a useless one ship Partisan sub-faction (stand alone movie), and the Partisan X-wing is being replaced with a Blue X-wing.

Red & Gold squadron lived on in the movies until Force Awakens.

Noooooo! Not only is gold squadron utterly destroyed at the Battle of Yavin, but Red squadron survives with only two members - Luke and Wedge. In Legends they were reformed into Rogue Squadron under Wedge, and who knows under the new cannon. But gold squadron is dead, no doubt about it.

I could see a rebel heroes of the Rebellion pack along the theme of most wanted - An X- and Y-wing with additional cards for more conversions and/or new pilots.

Indeed. Evaan Verlaine from the post-ANH comic Princess Leia was present at Yavin (Galactic Atlas) and was Gold Three (Rogue One Visual Guide). Making it pretty clear she's intended to be the Y-wing survivor.

I was ambivalent about getting a fifth T-65 mini until I took a closer look at some of my X-wings. Those wave 1 sculpts are terrible! Bad plastic or molding or something. Ugly and misshapen with really poor definition.

Y-wings are just a hair nicer. I just hope they include standard Gold Squadron cardboard if the set includes Y-wings. I can run four Thugs but only 2 Goldies and that bugs me for some reason.

Yeah looking at some of the original models from early waves of X-Wings and Y-Wings. Could really use an update with how much better the new ones have been.

I'd love to see a Rebels Vet pack with a new X-Wing and Y-Wing, but you throw a U-Wing in there and the price goes up by $25-30 bucks. That means it's a $50+ expansion and I'd much rather see a $30 with just the X and Y.

Poe's T-70 and the TFA falcon are the first resculpt that FFG has done. All the other packs were just a recolor.

Could U=wing Ion Cannons be Battlefront DLC? I'm sure that is possible.

I'm all for an X+Y pack, IMO it's too early for an U-wing, even though the movie provides us an alternative paint scheme.

X-would obviously be Blue Squadron, Y-wing... we need more pilots, there are two Golds left from ANH, and at least one new in Rogue. Norra in the novels, Chopper, Rex and everyone's favourite Sabine in Rebels.

Considering we already have a Gold Squadron paint scheme on the standard Y, the repainted one could be Grey Squadron.
