Zeta-class Cargo Shuttle (Rogue One)

By DarthEnderX, in X-Wing

So does anyone know if any of the toys (like the hotweels or whatever) of the cargo shuttle are about the right size? While I hope FFG makes us an official one eventually I was considering getting something cheap for the moment to do a couple of cassual games around. Use the shuttle model instead of the senator shuttle from the starter or what not.

Perhaps scatter a few around the table like asteroids for a dogfight outside an imperial mining station or some such.

I'm still against throwing more shuttles into the Imperial faction when two is more than enough in my opinion. But for the sake of contributing to the thread:

A cargo shuttle like this would probably have average shielding (4 or 5) but a high hull value (similar to the VCX and Decimator, maybe a bit higher). The weaponry it had in the movie seemed more defensive in nature, but looked like it packed quite a punch. I'd give it an attack value of 3.

Agility would reflect it's size. So I could easily see it as being at 0, especially for a ship with a high a hull value as I'm imagining.

As for the dial, it's a cargo freighter. It shouldn't be anywhere near combat on purpose, so it wouldn't have the ability to evade fighters very well. Even though the Lambda and Upsilon are also designed to take things from point A to point B, they run the risk of going through dangerous zones, so the maneuverability they have makes more sense for them. This shuttle's the equivalent of a weaponized semi truck for the Empire. I could only see it having 1, 2, and 3 straight forward maneuvers, 1 and 2 banks, and a 0 stop.

Upgrades would probably be 2 or 3 crew slots, a modification slot, and maybe a title slot. I could see an argument for a system slot, but I'm "meh" for that. Elite Pilot Talent slot would depend on the pilots, though I can't really see someone having an elite talent flying a cargo shuttle.

Keep in mind, I'm coming up with this just from what function we see if fulfill in the movie. The dial I suggested would be terrible, but when did we ever see it doing hard banks and K-turns? How could a ship like that even perform those kinds of maneuvers?

I think it's time for SHUTTLE-WING!

Eta class

Theta class

Nu class (attack shuttle!)

Lambda class

Zeta class cargo shuttle

Come on, we got a lot of Greek letters left!

Oh, and the sentinel class landing craft...

The maneuver dial is my biggest concern about this ship, if we want it to be both playable and true to what we've seen in the movie. It shouldn't be more maneuverable than Lambda, perhaps it should have even worse dial. Set of of straigts and banks with a stop seems to be right, but it would be near to useless in the game. Perhaps they would give it one red turn (maybe speed 3 instead of Lambda's 2) and less green maneuvers.

Thinking about it, the Zeta isn't fast, but given it is supposed to pick up and drop off cargo for a military force, it probably has some decent maneuverability while slow (such as stops, probably a few of the potential ones) to land, and it has probably quite a bit of power and inertia - so it wouldn't necessarily be slow - but hitting up those higher speed maneuvers should be painful (like a whole row of 3s which are red). It's hauling cargo after all, it needs to move some weight. A cutaway from the VD also says it has very powerful repulsorlifts in the wings, which could explain a little more short term mobility.

This is not discounting potentially unique aspects to the dial, such as another ship with Reverse maneuvers, a White stop, or go nuts and give it like a 1 K. A big RED 1K with shoddy green selection to it's like the U-Wing's telegraphed as hell 0K.

I for one welcome our new Shuttle overlord.

But for realsies I wouldn't mind more shuttles. For starters, Look at all the area to paint on it!! Big flat surfaces, yes please!

More so than that, the possiblity to use Epic cards is lovely. (suggesting this got a cargo slot) There's, only 4 or 5 that don't require energy, but thats 4 or 5 more cards than I usually get to play. (Just gimme slicer tools)

Variety would be nice, as well, I love some of the skills brought along by the upsilon, this guy can get it's own unique stuff as well......what those are.....not my job to think them up.

Don't forget about the usage in scenarios!!!

I agree with your assertions for the most part. I feel that it should at least have an Agility of 1. Otherwise it just becomes one great big moving target. It definitely should have a "Cargo" Slot, Perhaps develop a new type of "Cargo" like "Container" or "Modular Cargo Container". Container modules could be made for different functions such as sections of medical facilities, Command and Control buildings, troop transport, and simply Cargo. and I see this as an epic size ship even if it's on the small side of it. I agree with your maneuver dial suggestion. Might add a 4 straight tho, but make it a red maneuver (Even Semi -Trucks can go pretty fast. It's just stresses them out to do so and can be dangerous. I know I used to drive a Tractor-trailer rig.) I totally see a Unique Rebel pilot slot for the Rogue One pilot and some low skill ranking Imperial pilots. I can see an ET for the Rebel pilot, something along the lines that Imperial pilots cannot shoot at this ship unless (some certain thing happens) Kinda like Sabine's Tie.

Ironically I could totally see some Scum Lord or Villainous type Pirate band getting their hands on a Zeta Class Cargo shuttle and using it for space salvage ops! The cargo section is modular so, as such each module could be custom modified to suit what ever purpose you want it for. Want a cargo module for transporting your slaves for sale? Well with this baby you could easily cram a couple hundred slaves in there No Problemo! Need to move yer stash of goodies from one hide out to another and maybe keep a low profile with the Imperials? Well here ya go! Hey! Want a fully outfitted party house? Custom mod that cargo container into your own private Mobile party hot spot!!!

Nope, I don't want a cargo ship in a dogfight game.

And yes, I know there are already some cargo ships (epic) in the XWTMG.
