I never got the new starter set as I have 2 of the old ones and really no need for more x wings our tie fighters didn't buy whole new reskin so should I have got new starter set
Do I need the new starter set
You don't need it.
New damage deck is nice to have though.
Need it? Probably not.
However the new starter set has a lot of nice stuff. The new Asteroids are nice, as is BB-8. The T-70 X-Wing is a lot of fun to fly and Poe has a great pilot skill. The TIE/fo has a shield, a nice Tech slot and some of the pilots are worth having. But it's the new damage deck that you really want. There were quite a few changes to crits that make it a better deck to fly with.
I'd suggest picking it up at some point, especially if you fly Rebels, but I wouldn't make it a priority.
Edited by NspaceEven if you don't pick it up, you should read through the Rules Reference guide , and optionally (recommended if you're new) the Learn to Play booklet . Both are available as PDFs from FFG's X-Wing product page , and supersede the rules in the original core set.
Edited by FireSpyI dont even no what a PDF is our how to get them. I guess if rules changed I better get new rules I just didn't want more of same ships all ready got 12 xwing and 16 tie fighters

It's a file and you can get them on ffg's x wing product page.
Ya I only deal with really copies of stuff not a fan of computer files. Seen first had how the can be abused
The upgraded damage deck is really nice, and you'd be surprised how useful it is to have more than six dice available. I keep each faction separately stored, too, so it's handy having a third set of templates and rulers (one per faction).

A PDF is a common file format, and there are numerous software programs that can open it (you likely have multiple installed).
In my previous post I linked directly to both the Learn to Play booklet (click here) , and Rules Reference guide (click here) PDFs, just click the links to get them.
Regarding the rest of the content in the new core set, while the T-70 X-Wing and TIE /fo Fighter are similar to the originals, they are different ships. There are also new upgrades (though, it's probably not worth purchasing just for these), a new damage deck, and 6 new asteroids (function the same as the original asteroids, just different shapes).
All look in to them I guess kjust dont realy need more ships
Need = no.
Very Nice to have = yes.
We used to say getting two Starters was usually a smart thing to do. Well it still is although now you'd want one of each. If looking for more TIE Fighters (you probably get enough of the various X-Wings if you get the expansions) getting another may be the most cost efficient but there aren't so many 7-8 ship pure TIE Fighter swarms being flown anymore.
I just can't see having more of the same ships when I got so many
But they're not the same ship. A T-70 X-Wing plays very different to a T-65 with its T-Roll and built-in boost. Same goes for a TIE/SF compared to a TIE/LN, give the former has S-Loops, Target Lock action, and a single shield.
I just can't see having more of the same ships when I got so many
Other than the 12 X-wings and 16 TIE Fighters, what other ships have you got?

I'm almost sorry to say this but based on some other threads a lot of trouble understanding how the game is supposed to work.
I'm not even sure most people who play epic have that many standard X-Wings and TIE Fighters unless they are also into painting or modelling.
4 a wings 6 y wings 4 b wings 6 z95 6e wings 4 hwk 4 k wing 4 170s 6 intercepers 6 bombers 4 phatnoms 6 advance tie 4 defenders 2 punshiners 4 k fighters 6 skcy 1 scum pack one shuttle one falcon one dash ship one slave one
2 radiers 2 cr90 1 transport one gantize
Wave with new xwing one I dont got anything thing as I dont need more ties our x wings and I haven't seen rebels so a lot of that stuff I dont like our care for
I got a lot of stuff because at one point I was trying to get people in to the game and teach them but ever one thought games was to kiddish and thought rules made no sense and stop trying to play so much for trying to get 40k guys in to x wing
Biggest thing guys had a hard time with is lack of damage out put and how easy it is to avoid it and running in to each other
What was mandatory in new starter:
-Poe (was cause now you can get his PS9 counterpart in HoR)
What is semi-mandatory
-Damage deck (in TLT heavy builds, or if you don't want injured pilot - depends on the list you use new DD can have some advantage over old one)
What is nice to have from new starter:
-Poe (not mandatory but PS8 version is still nice if you got list tight on points)
-BB8 (some builds can make good use of him)
-obstacles (options options)
What is totally irrevelant:
-Ties (blister pilots are played not starter ones)
-rest of upgrades (they are lacking best said)
-rules (internet got them all)

Then yes.
You need the box.
The new ships are cool. The new damage deck is the set ffg intend for you to use (before they lost their nerve to the forum nerd rage). More obstacles are good and more range rulers are always usefully (where do the range one's go?)
If you play rebels poe is useful as is bb-8, if you play imps skip it fo's are garbage and the only good pilot is in the expansion not the core.
Yes. You need 2.
You need at least 2 of every X wing item ever released.
Except the Lambda Shuttle.
Then you need 4.
To be honest, even the 'less played' pilots are good. It's surprising how nice Epsilon Leader's ability is once you get used to it.
The main thing I'd underline is the comment above that T-70 X-wings and TIE/fo fighters are not just reskins - they are very different craft.
A TIE/fo is massively, massively more capable than a normal TIE fighter - green hard turns, target lock (if you're not being shot at), segnor's loops, a tech slot, and above all that shield token add up to something which punches way above its weight in a close-range brawl.
At the same time..... there's a fair argument for just getting the TIE/fo and T-70 expansions.
I would strongly, strongly advise getting the new rulebook - either as a computer file or in print - because there are a few 'tweaks' compared to the rules in the starter set. When 'check pilot stress' occurs, for example (which affects Night Beast)
Edited by Magnus GrendelConversely, why should somebody who entered the game this year buy the old core set ...
(I assume it's still (i) Biggs and (ii) R2D2 - )
I didn't start this year. And I really thought it was it just a reskin of rules and ships
For a total new player, the new core set is way more relevant then the old one. You could even find someone selling their overflow of Bigg and R2D2, most old player bought two old core set.
