Scenario Editor

By biff7dog, in Battlelore

Hi FFG. I am a fan of your products and have bought a number of your games and expansions so I think you owe it to me to go to DOW and kick some arse and nick (british for steal) their scenario editor. I know the DOW website allows you to pay a one off fee of about six dollars for a life time use of the Memoir 44 editor. May be we could have some co-operation where we can pay a fee (say 10 -15 dollars) to you, for a link to their old editor, where you both can share the income, Otherwise please make one your self because I want one and I want one now!

Thanks in anticipation

ooops. Yeh ok, I am a bit of a noob to forums although I have played the main game for a while now. I have crossed over from Memoir 44 and I am really enjoying this game. I have just bought all the expansions except for the Hundred Years War which is obviously hard to find.

Apologies for my above weak attempt at off the wall tongue in cheek humour, and for not searching the forums for previous posts on the above. However, my post was meant to act like a battle cry and rally further troops to the cause with more posts of 'me too'. Instead I look behind me only to see the tumble weed drifting across the plains...

Am i right in thinking that there is a hard core out there who know what the editor is and what it offers, and who want it, but are obviously bored with another post on the subject? To those people, I say, lets not sit in silence and lets start an online petition in this forum somewhere to ask/demand for the return of the editor. Apathy achieves nothing. A long list of names here might achieve nothing too. But, this is the publishers forum, and there is more chance that we get the editor if we make a fuss than if we don't.

Also, what about my suggestion of paying a hiked fee for the editor, say 15 Dollars. That would cover Days of Wonders current fee for an editor (6 dollars) and plenty over for FFG to cover their costs too. Again if anyone else has any ideas on how to get DOW and FFG to come together on this, then lets put them forward with the petition.

On the subject of petitions on forums they do work. I know for a fact that on the Memoir 44 forums the Germans petitioned for german language editions of rules cards scenarios and expansions and have had great success. As a german speaker I have viewed the german Battlelore fan site and they too are very positive in their approach to achieving concessions from FFG and DOW.

My final point is to establish the value of a scenario editor to the Battllore community anyway. I have admitted that I am a relative noob to Battlelore and I am wondering if its importance is less to the Battlelore community than it is to Memoir 44's. I say this only because Battlelore has the expansion A Call to Arms which allows for the easy creation of new scenario's and battles. This is lacking in Memoir 44, so perhaps the editor is of more value to that game, in terms of its necessity for replay value. Also, to the senior members on the forum, I would say not to forget that there are always new people getting in to the game who will not have seen the DOW editor and who will not understand what it has to offer in terms of its sheer quality as a product. Its superb print quality is just one of its benefits. We need to make new gamers aware of its existence and get them on board too.

I would be really pleased if a Seinior contributor could point out to me if I am way off the mark here and if the importance I give to an editor is over valued, and if in reality , no one is really bothered or if they read my posts and just think that I am an arse or something?

Here's waiting for the next batch of tumble weed! (lol) happy.gif

Hello,

I understand your opinion. Actually FFG has not spoken or publish an adventure editor for Battlellore. Fortunately, we have another way : made fan's adventure editor.

Currently, there are two projects of an adventure editor announced by their respective author :
- my web site, www.battleloreadventure.com (announced here)
- an program write in Java made by an German gamer (announced in forum of www.worldofbattlelore.de

With my work and travel time, I can't work fulltime on my adventure editor but I aim to made it better than DOW's adventure editor. I work on it when I can.

omega 2-

Vielen dank fur Ihr post. Obwohl mein deutsch ziemlich rostig ist, bin I fähig (gibt's keine gelegenheit here Umlauts einzufuegen?) deutschen Websites zu lesen.

Hi omega2. If you are French and not German I apologise profusely but thank you very much in deed for your post and for providing me with the web links. I wish you good luck on the completion of your own Scenario editor. Unfortunately french is not one of my languages. I wish FFG would add nationality to a contributors profile so that 1; you could know the writers back ground and 2 know what their native language is.

Best wishes

John (English)

I'd like only to thanks Omega2 for his efforts with www.battleloreadventure.com ; I tried his editor, and I find it really good.

Yes, it's in French, and the idea perhaps may keep the larger english-speaking fanbase at large, but its interface is almost entirely graphical, and it resembles the old DOW one enough to be easy to adapt to it. IMHO the author is mantaining his promise of making it even better with some subtle changes here and there, like some controls with the mouse scroll-weel to rotate a selected tile on the field, some shortcuts to pinpoint and fix it, and (my favourite one) an implementation of different addictional styles of Epic play directly borrowed from Memoir '44 to BL, namely Overlord and Breakthrough (pleasing the experimental lot).

The only thing it's lacking, for now, is a "publish and share" feature (if some system of collective evaluating and commenting will be inserted here I can see the app becoming "killer"), but I know how compelling could become reconcile real life with our most important gaming one ( ^_^ )!

So, again: thanks, Omega2!

Hello,
