Corellian Conflict contents

By Aurelus, in Star Wars: Armada

With the last few previews for CC, it's pretty clear that this expansion will consist of cardboard and paper. I would have rather seen FFG include the minis for each new squadron they are introducing with this expansion, rather than just giving us the cards and bases. As it stands, it makes the purchase of additional rebel and imperial squadron packs almost a must to properly utilize the new content. Anyone else feel that this is a bit of a letdown?

I bought a new rebel pack for that reason alone. It's a bit annoying, but that's what everyone expected.

A Letdown?

Not for the Price.

If it was going to contain the Miniatures, as well, then it'd be well above the $60 mark... Double that price point.

Also, some of us have Enough Minis to change over already... I mean, really... Who uses 10 Squadrons of X-Wings, anyway? :D

This accomodates more people... Perhaps not the majority, but at least more people, but putting the onus on them wether they want more squadrons or not.

I'm dissapointed that the map is cheap plastic though. I had hopes for a cardboard one.

I'm not.

Plastic poster map can be nicely flattened and either framed, or laminated.

Either way, its going on a Wall.

I don't mind providing my own minis at all, either. I suspect many of us already have at least one of everything even without going out of our way for the CC. If that's not you, then probably you and the 1-5 friends who will play the CC with you can cover what will actually be needed for each game.

The map being paper actually makes a lot of sense to me. It doesn't have a bunch of units sitting on it. Most people don't have the space to set it up and leave it out for a month (or however long the campaign runs) anyway. Its going in and out of the box many times. The stickers make it so that you don't need to take a cell phone snap or something and re-set it every time. So for practicality, it makes sense.

Also, since it is just paper, we can easily do with it whatever we want to make it re-usable, laminated, wall mounted, metal magno mounted or whatever.

What did I miss? Where did they say what the map is made of?

I like the idea of hanging it up at my local FLGS. I wonder if the campaign/league kit will also have a map. Beyond that, I plan to create a digital version, which I can put up on ConcentratedFirepower.com.

How about 25 squadrons of X-wings, 10 x Squadrons of A, Y, B wings, and the same for the Imperials. Plus 2 sets of rogues and villains. I have a lot of ships and squadrons. Including a 4ft Super Star Destroyer.

Paper and cardboard expansions are easier to produce and put out. You like stuff easy to deliver don't you?

I've seen some people complain about how flimsy the components are for the campaign. Paper map and stickers for the bases for a one-use thing. What gives?

Remember, hardly anyone plays the X-Wing campaigns. I don't think that's changed since I stepped away from the game. FFG has cause and reason to presume everyone who buys the campaign pack will do so for the fighter cards and objectives, and ignore/trash the rest. That's how X-Wing huge expansions have been for everything that can't be played in some kind of skirmish map.

But I think if the campaign kicks off and people want multiple plays out of their campaign expansions, it could be a sign for FFG to put more thought into the components for their next one.

When I get my set I want to mount the stickers on wooden tokens and maybe mount the map. I intend on giving the campaign a workout, presuming I can find the players who are willing to maintain playing one.

FFG making a product that makes you buy more of their products? You must not be from around these parts, cause seriously, that is their whole business model.

Norse, I used to use some thin magnetic plastic to stick things on the side of my car. If I find some again, I may use that for my campaign stickers. Travel armada!

Magnetic dry erase board then magnetized tokens = profit.

Here's a guide for people who want to make a more traditional board game map for the campaign. I especially liked the comment below it about using book repair tape for the joins.

Rough guess, I'm looking at about US$15 for materials to make three or four maps worth of boards, if I go this route. Probably less if I shop a bit.

My plan is to mount the paper map onto magnetically receptive material (often called RubberSteel), then mount that to foam board or something stuffer, then glue magnetic sheeting to the bottom of the tokens so they can adhere to the map. Voila, reusable campaign.
