Magician Apprentice


Strength: 3, Craft: 3, Life: 4, Gold: -, Fate: 5, Alignment: Neutral, Start: City

Abilities:

- You begin the game with one Spell.
- During the game, you always have at least one spell. (Gain a spell each time you cast
your last spell).
- Always when you cast a Spell, you have to roll a die:
1: The Spell fails and you lose a life
2: The Spell has no effect.
3-6: The Spell works normal.
When your craft reaches 7 or higher, you don’t have to roll a die anymore.
- Everytime when you draw a Spell, you can choose the Spell out of the discard pile.

Now, the Magician's Apprentice I like. Feels very thematic, not fully equipped to be able to cast spells yet, but if s/he (another for the Talisman Metro-squad to go with Minstrel and Philosopher lengua.gif ) improves enough, s/he'll get the hang of it. Although, I do kinda see him/her being a spammer of sorts. Cast Strength (or Craft), draw it back from the discard pile. Not 100% of the timing, but even if s/he casts Craft, draws another Spell for the ability, only needs to cast that Spell to get the previous Spell back. Abusing this ability seems easy.

I think you are right Dam.

If she/he get the craft or strength spell, then she can pick it up from the discard pile, after she has cast the spell..

When a spell has been cast, it goes immediately to the discard pile, so i think you can pick it up after you cast it preocupado.gif

But i think that it will be alright. she has no other powerful abilities, except the wand ability..

But it can make her a dangerous opponent, if she can always cast the random spell for example..(if it falls in her hands..)

All my Friends, Temporal Warp, Temporal Vortex, Preservation or even Hydra + something else, and the game is over... We don't need to cast Craft spells..

That;s right. If she can cast each time the temporal warp, then she is way too good..

But she must first try to get it..but still..

Maybe we must test her first...

Besides, if she did not have that last abiltiy, then she would not be so interesting.

Again, that's depends of the timing, as Dam said, and what we will count as "beginning of the turn/battle/psychic combat" and how many spells we can cast. If, like I'm always saying, unlimited amount as long as we have (for for me all that steps are like phases, not like a moments, and we personally are deciding, when the given step is end, and when we want to go to the next step), even FoD, or any other (even Summon Spells, as they are fighting together" are deadly for the enemy Character (unlimited FoD, unlimited Summonst &c).

Personally I would increase the Craft from 7 to 10. Getting 7 own Craft counters is a lot of time spending, and we always has a chance for fail (but then for that we have whole 5 fate..)

I see it already happen, that the Magician apprentice will cast the random spell in everyone's turn..

I am sure that everyone will hate her..

So, she is a great Character to be banned from the game gran_risa.gif

Hehe, didn't even think of the Temporal Warp combo, nobody ever gets a turn except Apprentice. That's even beyond my level of evil partido_risa.gif .

From all the updates so far, the Magician apprentice is the first one who is really overpoweredsad.gif

yep he/she is real overpowed as magican. if you got craft 7 nothing can stop you 1 is near the impossibel .

maybe the numbers are not correct. strengh 3 is solid but for a magican to strong. the last point sounds even in german strange.

Well, if i play a talisman game, then i roll enough 1's !

So, that would be bad if you play with the magician apprentice..

And besides, you must roll for each spell.. ( there will be a moment that she will lose a life..)

but 2 is bad nothing happenes means that that the card must thrown awy , or you can use it again. in that chase i think if this is the last powerfull spell that you could spell than anytime. the normal wizzard and magican can not do that.

i think this could be a good iten a spellbook where you can store three spells that mybe cat in the game or that you spell.

That's true, If you roll a 2, then you have cast the spell for nothing, and she just throw it away..

i have nothing to complain about that ability.

But the spell is discarded, then she must have at least one spell, so she pick up the spell that she discarded because of rolling 2.

That's true.

But even if she can not get the spell back at that moment, because she has more than 1 spell, then she can always get it later, when she use her last spell etc.

To balance the last ability, I’d add a Swashbuckler like limit = Can only do it once for the same spell. To remember, say, leave the spell open to all, but put a counter on it to remind you it’s a “perma-discard”. As to leaving it open to all, since it got discarded, it’s not like it’s a big reveal to anyone paying attention. Temporal Warp x2, ST x2, CR x2, FoD x2… is great, but not overpowering.

Of course, fear Toadify x2. (x4 if have the second copy… which having both happened to me once…)
