Expertise and Super-Biggs

By Astech, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Expertise is like Predator in many ways, but a bit cheaper and more synergistic with Fire Control System and Target locks. Here's a squad highlighting its usefulness:

Horton Salm (38)

Twin Laser Turret

Engine Upgrade

Expertise

R2-D6

Biggs Darklighter (29)

R2-D2

Integrated Astromech

Sabine Wren (19)

Jyn Erso

Crack Shot

Sabine's Maserpiece

Captain Rex (14)

Total: 100 points.

Horton has a TLT that rerolls all blanks, then converts all focuses into hits without the use of any actions, leaving him free to boost to his heart's content. Sabine feeds focus tokens to Biggs while Rex pins down the heaviest hitter on the opposing team with Suppressive Fire.

Horton averages 2.8125 hits per shot, which is a spread of about 3, 3, 3, 3, 2. This is incredibly reliable, mid-level damage output. However, he's the only offensive power on the squad. How could I improve on that?

You can take Sabine and Rex out, leaves you with 33pts:

Cassian Andor (27)
Rage (1)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Inspiring Recruit (1)

Hits consistently with this build. IA helps Horton with his boost vs higher PS aces.

Norra Wexley (29)
Expertise (4)

Cheap Norra, but all she has to do in TL and gets some consistent 3 hits. All offense though, as she cant TL and focus for defense ability.

Blue Squadron Pathfinder (23)
Fire-Control System (2)
Finn (5)
Jyn Erso (2)
Tactical Jammer (1)

Hardest hitter for a mere 33pts. Four dice attacks that can support Biggs with Jyn and jammers.

Thane Kyrell (26)
Finn (5)
BB-8 (2)
Alliance Overhaul (0)

As the opponent attacks Biggs, Thane gets TL and Focus for a nice hard punch with Finn crew.

I like the suggestions, but dropping Sabine (mostly for Jyn) and Rex turns Super-Biggs into ordinary Biggs.

I like the blue squadron pathfinder, though. Now all I need is a U-wing...

I created an account to point out that you can't run Captain Rex and Sabine Wren (with the exception of flying a different vehicle like the shuttle) in the same squad. The ship "Sabine's TIE Fighter" is a unique ship so there can never be more than 1 tie fighter in a rebel build (unless you have some kind of house rule to ignore unique rules... no judgement here (sinner)). That being said, I love the concept you're going for and I think you keep captain Rex and replace Sabine. Put the Title and Jyn Erso on Captain Rex. By my calculations, you would h ave 18 points remaining (Horton is 40 points with the upgrades you have listed, not 38 so I dropped engine upgrade since you have both biggs and 360 arc) which you could use to add Lieutenant Blount (who hits even if no damage is dealt so he destroys stealth devices like a champ) or whatever you want. I think an A-wing greed squadron pilot with deadeye (and adaptability so it is 4 like cap rex) would fit well with the extra focuses being thrown around. Go wild!

Be careful giving Cassian Rage. I thought that would be a great build with Inspiring Recruit as well until I reread the card and he can clear the stress of "another" friendly ship at range 1-2. So Rage isn't as easy to clear as I first thought it was.

Unless I'm mistaken (I don't think I am as I haven't been able to find anything to prove me wrong) you actually CAN have more than one rebel TIE fighter. The ship itself isn't unique, it's the title card "Sabine's Masterpiece" that is. So you can't have more than one rebel TIE with that title, which the OP doesn't, but nothing is stopping you from having more than one TIE in the list.

I've seen a ton of threads and lists and games where people have been running more than one, so I'm pretty sure that's the way it works. Haha Pretty sure.

About the the ties, that is correct ... the title is unique, so it can go on one tie fighter, but you can fit all four tie pilots in a build

It's almost like I just browse through the threats looking for opportunities to say this (but I don't, honest) but 33 points = procket Jake

So you created an account to post incorrect info :P There is no such thing as "unique ship" in Xwing.
