Happy Friday Rogue One was amazing / No Spoilers

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

Such a great movie will watch it again to catch everything.

Have a great weekend.

Ps I see why the striker is why it is, moves and such.

It's only Thursday here yet but it certainly was amazing. To me it is possibly the BEST StarWars movie ever although it may not evoke the same emotions that the original trilogy did.

Compared to SW7?

How much plot did it have? Or was it relatively cheesy nostalgia for nostalgia sake?

See the movie, you will NOT be disappointed.

There is plenty of plot and a good bit of it makes plenty of sense as well.

I'll also say there is plenty of well placed nostalgia which doesn't feel the least bit cheesy to me.

As a fan of Episode VII for the most part?

I liked Rogue One more than both VII and RoTJ.

YUP!!!

  :D  ^_^ :)

I did not like 7. =P at all.

I did not like 7. =P at all.

I didn't like Episode 7 at all, either. I think it's the worst in the whole saga.

Still, I liked Rogue One.

It has a female lead character done right. It has an interesting set of supporting actors like there hasn't probably been before.

It has a refreshing new take on the tone, and not just a carbon copy of it.

It brings many things new, and many things old. But the new things aren't a rehash of the old ones.

It has plot holes, underused characters, flat dialog lines... and still manages to be better than Episode VII. So go figure.

All in all, to me Rogue One feels like a 2 hours long "We are sorry!" note to the fans for Episode VII.

For me E VII and E VI are both half great and half crap.

It evens out for me, as I fast forward the crap...

Taking from an even harsher critic than me - although my wife bought us tickets for the night, and does like Star Wars (she's particularly a huge fan of Rebels and Clone Wars)...as it came down to it, she almost had to be dragged out. She just disliked Episode VII so much that the relatively little amount of snow we got was making her cranky about wasting time going out.

She REALLY liked it. Said it was so much better than the last movie, and happy on the decision to bother facing down the weather to catch it.

It really just feels like it was done by a far better director than Episode VII. Taking the mic back a bit for my own thoughts...the 'climactic battle' was just a MILLION times better than Episode VII...almost no meaningful comparison at all. Like the asteroid fight in Episode V vs the Battle of Endor in VI...just that much of a difference in scale and quality. And the character development was a HELL of a lot better. Even "minor" characters in this one got more character development than Finn or Rey got in Episode VII.

So...yeah. This is the one we've been waiting for. (Also: it's definitely worth checking out in 3d. The shots we get from the Mon Cal command ship's bridge bubble are...wow. VERY impressive in 3d.)

Felt more like a two hour long apology for the prequels to me. Just so much better than those.

I liked it more than EpVII by quite a margin, and in tone I liked it more than IV and VI as well tbh.

It's currently my favourite Star Wars.

Yeah, I went there.

RogueOne is the best SW movie upon 8 all!! Amazing

This is my feeling at the moment - but, wow, such a big trophy to carry, I'm...just going to hold off on calling that for a little while.

What I can say right off is that it's going to be hell waiting for this to come out on Blu-Ray. It feels like it has a level of re-watchability that I don't think I've seen a hint of in any of the other movies. Closer to the feeling of...well, a game.

I actually think R1 is perhaps the 2nd best movie.. the problem is it requires you to have seen all of them to feel that way.

As a stand alone film I dont know if it would rock a newcomer to SW the way *any* of the OT would (they dont really require prior knowledge of a previous film to be good).. and dare i say it even Ep1.

Rogue One is simply a film that you must watch at least once if you think you are a X wing fan. I am shocked. A bunch of 13 fans did the effort to watch the film yesterday. 8 votes "in the same level as OT films". 5 "much better that ep 7". So very good but BEWARE...not suited for young children. This is not Lucas Ep 1.

Right now for me

7/rogue one/5/6/4/3/2/1

Rogue One/5/7/6/4/there are other movies?

(OK, I enjoy the prequels in parts, specifically the parts with space battles and the podracing sequence, but not enough to know order)

Thanks for not spoiling since I may not see it for awhile. Looking forward to it and to playing the game we all come here for!

Have a great weekend everybody!

Aye, thank you all for no spoilers. Reading this though, you've definitely helped renew my faith in going to see this new film. I really didn't get a full richly flavoured film from VII, such limited character development and a host of other personal issues I had with it.

Now, Cinema ticket or that ARC-170 I'm after... choices... ;)

7/rogue one/5/6/4/3/2/1

Ditto. Though 7 has the Nostalgia as being the first Star Wars my son has seen in theatres, and he LOVED it.

Yeah, it's definitely better than TFA. By a large margin.

It's familiar without being a complete rehash. You see Star Wars things you recognize, but then you get an original story to play with them. Writing is significantly better. Characters in Rogue One are a little shallow, but it's a Dirty Dozen style war film. The characters don't need to be deep. They just need a mission and a reason for all of them to be there. Either way, shallow war movie characters are still a ton better than Invincible Rey and the Set Dressings.

Plot is a little stilted at times, but it moves along well enough. Dialog is way better than TFA's weird attempt to be a 90s Buddy Cop movie at times. Comic relief is better too, with better timing and delivery. Villains in Rogue One feel like real people, instead of bad Nazi cartoons like in TFA.

Oh, and the TIE Fighters don't have highly reflective white solar panels.

Not only does Rogue One stand out as one of the best in the panoply of Star Wars movies and TV shows, it is one of the best space operas you will see. To take that designation further; Rogue One is a superb Grand Tragic Space Opera.

(I would call many of the Lucas SW films "operettas" though.)
