How viable is that party?

By SpawnGarret, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

My goal is to make use of the heroes/classes we haven't played often and to try the mixed classes.

The absence of effective heal is supposed to be compensated by damage prevention from other heroes.

Rendiel - Spiritspeaker (Tempest, Cloud of Mist, Nature's Bounty)

Tatianna - Bounty Hunter (Long Shot, Dark Iron Chains, Lie In Wait)

Jaes - Battlemage/Marshall (Planar Weapon/Runic Weave, Zealous Fire, By the Book, I am the Law)

Mordrog - Steelcaster Conjurer (Shield Mage, Many Friends, Focus Fire)

Would you like to give us more information?

Since you want to play the marshal, I'd say we are talking about a campaign against an Overlord. Which one and against which OL Deck?

Tatianna as a Bounty Hunter can certainly be powerful. +1 Range as a Heroic Ability is extremely nice, especially with the blue+red ranged weapons. 12 HP is also very nice for a scout.

Rendiel: both his Hero Ability and Feat are cool but require a Hero to be knocked out. Something you want to avoid. Certainly a weaker choice but could be just the right hero if you try a party that is weak on healing.

Jaes: has 'only' 4 knowledge which shouldn't be a big deal and can be very powerful if you get enough runes, especially with planar weapon. However, if you play him as the marshal, he doesn't start with a rune and will have only 3 Stamina. Weak in the beginning, the OL could exploit that. Zealous Fire will help a bit, but the OL decides when you get stamina back.

Mordrog: A very nice heroic ability and 14 HP, but the OL will simply not target Mordrog if he can help it. Still, works nice with the mirror images and the health and stamina loss is one gets destroyed.

You may lack a little bit of searching/door-related skills/abilities, but that doesn't have to be a problem. Overall, I think your group could deal a hell of damage (if you get the right items) but may have a poor start since Jaes has in the beginning only 3 Stamina and Mordrog a pretty crappy starting weapon. Another drawback may be that Focus fire and Channeling requires Mordrog to have magic weapon, but Jaes will demand to get any rune, magic weapon in the beginning. So his first upgrade might come late. The speed of your group is very nice though.

Overall, Mordrog, Jaes and Tatianna seem to be focused on dealing damage while Rendiel tries to mitigate attacks and revives a hero if he's knocked out. A little bit heavy sided on the damage dealing stuff, but not that bad. I just wonder if you really can avoid enough damage. As long as Jaes has fatigue for his Overlord card control, I guess the answer is yes. Still, you'll need health potions. If I were the OL i'd get Placebo to deny your party the use of one potion. That would be very bad for your group.

Not sure about campaign yet. I think it could be LoR/HoB/SoN. About the second question: isn't OL choosing the deck AFTER knowing the heroes?

Thank you for your feedback!

Yeah, 4 knowledge is a borderline for the effective use, but I'd want to stay with high HP since I lack on healing.

About door related - in SoN or LoT I found them to be pretty useless. As OL, I always throw away this chest/door related card. I agree though about lack of searching skills - I need those health potions and money.

Yeah, I have doubts about Rendiel. He is the lowest on health, his feat/ability is not that great. But the only option for the Tempest with the same effectiveness is only Serena, who is worse in all def respects, except the copy of Knight's Defend ability, reversed.

Thanks again for your opinion. Any further feedback is highly welcome.
