The Ultimate Destiny Dice Storage Solution

By Darth Landy, in Star Wars: Destiny

I mentioned this in a different thread, but I thought it deserved its own post. One thing I had trouble finding was a decent container to keep my dice in since the Destiny dice are considerably bigger than most "regular" dice. For Dice Masters I was using bead organizers and the dice were small enough to fit well, but the Destiny dice are so chunky that it just didn't work. Only 2 could fit in each spot and there was a lot of wasted space.

Then I came across flat plastic photo cases from Iris. They come in two styles, 5x7 and 4x6 and are designed to hold 100 photos. These cases are the perfect size for one layer of Destiny dice. The 4x6 cases each hold 32 Destiny dice, and the 5x7s obviously hold more. However, I found that some of the 5x7s don't have a flat bottom and have a weird bump in the middle. Not sure if they all do, but it's why I kind of prefer the 4x6.

Another cool thing about the 4x6 is that you can also get a large container that actually comes with 16 4x6 photo cases inside! So this is what I purchased:

That's enough for 512 dice. Having 16 containers is particularly nice because you can also sort and label them however you like so you don't spend 20 minutes trying to find a particular die. I also like using one (or two) for the dice of my deck(s) since they are so much easier to work with than a box or dice bag.

Michael's in the US sells the same product. It's currently on sale for 24 USD. I'm actually thinking that it might be nice to use for other games where there are lots of little bits and pieces.

That's way cool, thanks for sharing. Can you post a pic of one of the cases full of Destiny dice?

What about Card Storage? Is everyone just using card albums?

I went with foam trays designed for miniatures for my dice. I'm too worried that even though they say they are scratch resistant that banging around against each other and the hard plastic case is going to eventually cause some wear.

No, I use small plastic (ultrapro) deck boxes for 2x decks and just cardboard long boxes (the kind you see selling Magic singles in game stores) with simple dividers for everything else. I was never really into the albums for cards.

There are enough card storage systems out there. The cards are standard size.

I see a lot of people use these to store multiple micro-games or card-only games that don't require a full-size cardboard box. It's a neat solution.

Zen Bins, who did a set of boxes for Dice Masters, announced they'll be running a Kickstarter soon for a Destiny version of the product.

Zenbins never really did it for me for Dicemasters. They weren't quite right for storage of a set and they weren't quite right for storage of a deck/team. At least for me anyway.

I'll be interested to see what they come up with for Destiny, if it's just the same thing with larger slots for dice, meh.

Darth Landy, thanks for the storage suggestion. I picked up the large Iris case today and it's perfect for Destiny dice. The large case, which normally goes for $42.99,was on clearance 50% off at Joann Fabrics.

I really liked ZenBins for storing my Dice Masters collection. It's nice to be able to store my dice in a way that allows them all to be easily visible. I've always kept my Dice Masters cards in a separate box.

I'll probably end up going with the ZenBins solution for Destiny too, since I was so happy with their Dice Masters solution. That's for storage of the collection.

For carrying my deck around at events, I'm leaning toward this:

I like the ultrapro command tower for team storage both for dice masters and I think for destiny it'll work really well. I like putting hard plastic top loaders in the swing door that holds over sized cards. Just in case I want that extra layer of protection. Pretty cheap too if you get the blank ones, not worth the extra money for the wotc artwork imo. Think I got my plain one for $15 I believe. Only downside is it's only cardboard, good cardboard but just cardboard, so not in the least water resistant.

Sorry for the necro, but I didn't think this justified its own thread, just thought some folks might be interested.

I hate carrying around a lot of stuff with me! When I played MTG I brought a deck. No dice, counters, playmat, trade binder, nothin. When I got into Destiny I was already PO'd about the dice...

anyway, I Found these at Walmart today in the back to school section. They are "crayon boxes" and perfectly fit a decks worth of dice with room for counters. Deckwise a proper deck box would be better, but these fit great full decks with protectors great, and they stack.

I use the Feldherr mini Plus case, holds like 200 dice and its super easy to see and find your dice..I like it.

For the money, this is my favorite:

UGD010267.jpg

Bottom tray will hold all your character dice and tokens (or nine dice) and the main compartment will hold a sleeved deck and far more dice then any deck could actually legally include.

Ah, this thread has returned! Now you can all laugh at my ridiculous system.

This is an older photo, and now two and a half of the rows are full of dice, sorted by set, then by color and affiliation. The fourth row is all my spare commons and uncommons (unsleeved), with all my other cards in binders. I guess I now have well over 400 dice, so these big Pokémon card boxes are the only convenient way to house my collection.

I'll use one box per year, so one box every three sets, to house all my dice. Then I'll use binders for the cards. Yeah, the Feldherr cases look awesome, but as someone who can afford this game but also someone with not unlimited funds, I'd rather just buy more cards than spend a ton of money on where I store them! :P
