Integrated Astromech and "attacks that do not hit"

By BlodVargarna, in X-Wing Rules Questions

This came up last night: IG88B shot a t-70 with integrated astromech rolled two hits. T-70 rolled an evade and took the hit. Then used IA to discard the damage card without resolving its effect.

We decided that since the card was dealt it was NOT an attack that did not hit and therefore B's ability didnt trigger and he could not shoot his HLC.

Did we make the right call?

Yes, because you were still dealt a card as a result of being hit. What happened to that card is irrelevant, it was still dealt.

You can only be dealt cards if an attack hits (specifically in attacking obviously) or you are Wampa.

The definition of "hit" is "There were more <boom> and <kaboom> symbols on the red dice than <squiggly> symbols on the green dice at the end of the Compare Results step". So in your example, the attack hit. Tractor Beam can also "hit", and therefore even strip a Steath Device, despite not doing damage. That's because the definition of "hit" only cares about dice results, not whether or not any damage was suffered.

You can think of it this way if someone needs a little "fluff" explanation. If the attack didn't "hit," the astromech would still be in the ship but since it did hit, what happened is the shot blew up the astromech instead of dealing damage to the hull of the ship.

Standard caveat: An attack hits if, at the end of the Compare Results step, there are one or more uncancelled [boom] or [kaboom] results in the attacker's dice results (usually this means there were more of them than there were [zigs] on defense dice, but Autoblaster, Ten Numb, Fanatical Devotion, etc...). As with other game rules, this can be overridden by card text (Lieutenant Blount).
