Help flying what I know and what I like

By gennataos, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I got rolled in a game with a buddy last night, fielding a pretty horribly-conceived list dependent upon a ton of friendly range 1 synergy. I was irritated less by the loss and more by wasting one of my fairly rare opportunities to even play. I might as well have just flow off the field...it wasn't an even remotely competitive game nor did I have any fun flying that list.

Soooo...I think I'm done with that sort of thing. I really like flying Poe, Corran, Rey and all manner of A wings. Here are a few lists I've flown and like. Which do you like the best? What ways would you optimize any of them to make them better? Also feel free to suggest other lists, given my current collection! I fly Rebels exclusively and own only Rebel expansions (see list below), plus we don't like to proxy.

Aces + Blocker (99) - I don't have Autothrusters, nor R5-P9, or this might look a little different. I've grown to rely on regen from R2-D2, so I don't know how much I like this anymore. Poe gets targeted and ends up running away from the fight or turns into a ball of flames pretty quick. I'm not a fan of the ordnance on Corran, they're just thrown on there to chew up some points. I'm happy to replace them. If I get some stuff under the tree (Rebel transport/Starviper??), maybe I should come back to this.

Rey loves Poe (99) - Probably my favorite list that I've played. Any time I've not including EU, I've ended up regretting it. I'd be happy to dump EU for Inertial Dampeners and Kanan Jarrus crew if I get a Starviper and a Ghost for Christmas. Of course, if I get a Starviper, that'll mean I'll also have Autothrusters, so it'll raise the question of Kanan on Rey vs AT on Poe. Since I pretty much only play against my buddy who doesn't play with many turrets, I'd probably lean towards Kanan. Another thing to consider is my buddy has started to auto-include Autothrusters whenever he can due to me playing Rey so much. I do my best to keep them in arc for Rey, of course, but it's still something to think about.

Rey loves Corran (100) - I don't think I've actually flow this exact configuration. I only have one VI card, otherwise Rey would have that as well. I thought Wired would be a decent VI substitution when executing the title sloop, but it's certainly not optimal. This list is wide open to be torn down and rebuilt!

Where'd they go? Where'd who go? (99) - I flew something like this with Snap instead of Poe plus a Z95 Bandit. I liked parts of it (Jake and Blue Ace), but hated others (Snap and Bandit), so I came up with this. It seems like it could be a lot of fun to fly, but I don't know how effective it would be. Regen Poe would make the others clear first targets. I'd probably lean towards starting Poe and Blue together with Jake to flank and hopefully get his Prockets off quick. From there it's just shenanigans of my buddy trying to chase them down.

I really enjoy Poe Rey Mi Fa So La Ti Do. Here's what I do with PS9 Poe:

Rey (45)

+ Finn (5)

+ Kanan Jarrus (3)

+ Millennium Falcon 2.0 (1)

+ Adaptability (0)

Poe (33)

+ R2-D2 (4)

+ Push the Limit (3)

+ Autothrusters (2)

+ Pattern Analyzer (2)

+ Black One (1)

Kanan for white sloops is better than Engine, unless you're just really into the arc-dodging game, which Rey isn't really built to do. I like Adapt over VI because it gives you flexibility over who moves and shoots first. This list is at 99 points, though you could drop B1 title to double your bid (with two PS9 pilots).

At PS8, I'm looking forward to this:

Rey (45)

+ Finn (5)

+ Expertise (4)

+ Kanan Jarrus (3)

+ Millennium Falcon 2.0 (1)

Poe (31)

+ R2-D2 (4)

+ Push the Limit (3)

+ Autothrusters (2)

+ Pattern Analyzer (2)

This comes to 100 points without B1. Expertise allows Rey to save a defensive Focus, which could help her live a lot longer when paired with Finn's blank/re-rolls.

For starters, if you are playing with a buddy and not in a tournament, PROXY! This is a great squad builder site that lets you print off the full text of the cards for your lists http://xwing-builder.co.uk/

Now then, I too love Poe, and can't seem to get enough of him. I think dropping B1 title is not worth it, that 1 point is very troll-tastic to target lockers and lists that depend on that mechanic. Just last night my Poe was boosting off a TL every round from a Fire Control System Brobot that was chasing him.

As for the Rey build above, I'd spend the extra 1 point on a sunggling compartment (for when Poe and Rey are just X-winging and chilling) and put in inertial dampeners.

But sadly, what you like (and what I like) is simply not as competitive but who cares? are you flying in Worlds? For a store championship a non-competitve list can be fun and against a buddy, well it will always be fun.

@Obi, I like your expertise Rey, but wonder what her action is going to be if focus rolls are turned to hits? Focus for defense? Maybe Expert Rey doesn't need Kanan? Drop AT from Poe and give Rey an engine upgrade and give Poe B1 and integrated astromech?

Hah, yeah, I couldn't give a hoot about what's considered competitive in a tournament right now. From my experience, what a competitive scene does to a game is shrink the potential and suck out a large portion of the fun of most games. When I saw that regional video of a guy fortressing for however many turns he did, that only solidified my opinion on the matter. What an amazingly boring way to play the game.

She absolutely needs Kanan if she wants to be unstressed so Expertise can work. And yes I mentioned that Expertise allows her to have a defensive Focus, which should improve her lifespan.

I think expertise Rey is going to be a thing.
