[MAJOR SPOILER] Rogue One

By Hamanu1, in Star Wars: Armada

Am I the only one who couldn't tell that Tarkin/Leia were CGI? I guess most people out there noticed it, but I literally couldn't. Some people will probably criticize my eyes, but they looked so real to me. I was blown away. Maybe my 3d glasses blurred the images?

I saw it with my dad, he didn't know, and was surprised when I told him they were CGI. He was like "Oh, I guess Carrie Fisher isn't 19 anymore..."

Knowing (or realizing) something makes it easier to spot something.

Honestly...I like the fact that it shows the Empire is vast...but with that vastness comes command and control issues.

This

The Empire is a massive Fascist Beurocracy. You don't get Command of an ISD because your an inventive tactical genius. You get command because you tow the party line and do what the 3 charismatic leaders tell you to do.

Great captains in the Empire are the exeption, not the rule *cough* Thrawn *cough*

The plans getting off make it the good guys winning - they died, but they died successful.

Wish Vader got a bit more screentime. Would have loved seeing him cleaning out the entire Rebel ship rather than that single hallway, and specifically force choking that blue admiral.

And the scene of vader in the Lift down to the suspended bridge pod, listening to elevator music would have been gold

I can just imagine hearing his respirator, with the Girl from Ipanema playing in the background.

Reminds me of this scene:

Perhaps this is the footage you were expecting?

That's great that he assumed he couldn't get away with killing the leads.

Am I the only one who's biggest peeve was the fact that they remasterd Red and Gold Leader, and added in a red five gag.

BUT NO WEDGE!!!!!!

Come on, he's the only pilot with 2!, not 1, 2 death star silhouettes on the side of his x-wing. He has speeking parts in all three originals, and just had an intro episode on Rebels

Wedge's voice actor for ANH (since he was dubbed) did get hired for Rogue One - so Wedge may have gotten a line even if he didn't get an appearance - unless the line itself was cut very late, with the actor still getting a credit somewhere.

Dennis Lawson wasn't dubbed. A different actor played Wedge during the briefing at Yavin. Lawson played every other wedge scene

But the dubbing sound just like him in ESB and ROTJ? And his other works, such as hornblower

I'm told he has a slightly Scottish accent in ROTJ.

In that case let me make internet history

I stand corrected sir, you presented a well spoken argument and conveyed the facts of the matter appropriate.

It appears I was mistaken

Looking at the trailer, there was a lot taken out of the film that was in it.

Loved the last 5 minutes as the Devastator just wrecked face and Vader boarded the flagship, the crew panic was very well done

Yeah, I agree. It was a little over the top actually. As if they really, really, really, REALLY needed to underscore the point. And add exclamation points. And bold type.

I mean, even the badguys all died. And the stormtroopers. And the rebel troopers. And all the pilots. Too much. Meh.

Anyway. Anyone recognize this?

(my emphasis)

"It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire."

This doesn't fit with Rogue One at all.

Yes, they got the plans...barely.

But their fleet was decimated, their best troops and pilots died (now we know why Porkins got to fly an X-wing), and only Jar Jar made it out alive.

If that's a victory, it was a Pyrrhic one.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the film (except the HORRIBLE CGI Tarkin/Leia), but I think they took it a step too far, trying to be all original and whatnot.

They did knock out two Imperial Class SD's, the gate and planetary shield on Scarif (moot point I realise). The majority of their fighters did escape, despite losing Blue squadron (and Red 5). We know that Wes and Dutch both survive (and the way they cut those two in was awesome, even if the haters want to call it cheap). They did lose the flagship but compared to the Imperial losses they did pretty well considering.

When Vader's ISD came out of hyperspace, only 1 ship hit it directly the others vectored off and as he was concerned with the flagship and there were no other imperial capital ships about the rest I assume managed to jump to lightspeed.

I liked the panic, too. I was thinking about it today. Imagine what it was like. You're a rebel trooper stationed on the flagship. The fleet's never been used. Then you get the call: you're dropping out of hyperspace at Scarif. Loud muffled explosions for about 30 minutes. Things sound like they're going well. Then the ship is abruptly disabled, the power goes down, and you're called to repel borders. It's dark in the airlock. You hear that breathing. A crimson light saber.

No. Way. Vader?! That's freaking Vader!

You just stare. You don't even start shooting until your CO tells you to open fire. Nobody did. They were as stunned as you were. Deflected blaster bolts fly around the room. Then bodies start flying around the room.

This is NOT how you thought your day was going to go.

Everybody dies.... the end.

No surprise there..

Though I was hoping that a few of the characters might show up again in another story. I know they were going for the great sacrifice but still. It's a shame, is all.

The two most compelling characters in the film didn't make it.

I'm taking, of course, about Screaming Chinese Girl and Mom.

Yknow, that's true.
