Which Star Destroyer do you think is the best?

By ShadowFox1138, in Star Wars: Armada Off-Topic

Arquitens are huge in comparison?

There's not a lot of difference between the final shot of them smashing together, and an image of me tacking my Arquitens Model to my Interdictor Model.

The Arquitens model is larger than it should be (although it could be argued the Interdictor model is smaller in comparison).

Other than that, the Rebels Teams stated that the The Rebels Interdictor was of a size akin to the Star Destroyer - that this was a new, larger take on it, and was not based on the Vindicator Cruiser for anything but overall look. The Sizing of the Vindicator was unimportant in that context.

I amke the assumption that the Arquitens (and the Gozanti) are subject to the same Sliding Armada Scale issue of the CR90 - and at which point, its more perspective of the team - I dare say that part of the requirement for the 3D Modelling would be to ensure that, at least in the context of the Show, that 3D Models all have the same relative scale - this isn't a hand-drawn cartoon of the 80s after all, and it does form a big chunk of Canon for one of the most popular entertainment franchises of all time...

Your post confuses me.

I totally agree that the "Rebels scale" matches the "FFG Armada sliding scale" and that in the episode the Arquitens next to the Interdictor look almost identical to how an FFG light cruiser looks next to an FFG Interdictor.

But that's completely out of scale from what the light cruiser's length supposedly is when we see it next to the Ghost (whose length we know) and then next to ISDs (whose length we also know).

Rebels doesn't really do a great job of keeping things in scale. That's pretty typical for a TV show, honestly, as Star Trek is also pretty awful about this.

But that's why after seeing the episode, I assumed that the new Interdictor was quite a bit smaller than the old Interdictor.

When you basically measure up the Hangar bays between the scaled Interdictor and the Scaled ISD in Armada - they're fairly close as well... If you assume the ISD is 1/7000 scale and derive its length, you can pretty well measuer the length of the INterdictor in the same scale.

BUT, anyhow, any excuse to post one of my Favourite Shots from Rebels :D

The Arquitens is -roughly- the same size as the entire bridge section of the Interdictor. The side hatch of the Arquitens is almost in line with the center trench, and there's some clearance between the Arq Tips and the Globe mounting of the Interdictor

Cue, Sliding Scale:

I tried to line up the Underside turrets the same way, and the Arquitens is certainly Sliding scale here...

But its significantly smaller in Rebels. I've found the sizing in Rebels to be consistent,a nd in this case, the Arquitens is certainly not "huge".

What I am constantly surprised by - by watching Rebels - is how big the VCX is...

... I really should compare VCX model to Gozanti, since we have In-Rebels Shots of them docked to each other.

... I also admit, I am not a scale model junkie. I don't have the same, how shall I put it, attention to absolute detail that I would attribute to most scale modellers... I clearly don't see the differences that are seen as important to some.

The Ghost's size changes quite a bit. There are tons of pictures of it docked to the CR90 flagship, next to an Arquitens, on the ground with people available as scale, and, most glaringly, near ISDs, where it appears as vastly different sizes each time. I think the Arquitens also changes sizes depending on what is next to it (again, that last Geonosis episode makes it seem very small for a capital ship).

There was a thread somewhere that went into these scale issues, but I can't find it.

I do hope though that they don't fall into the Star Trek DS9/TNG rut of having screwed up scaling.

'membah the Klingon Bird of Prey? Yeh, I 'membah!

The Star Wars equivalent of the Klingon Bird of Prey is the Providence-class. Two ships, to almost all intents and purposes identical in shape- but one ship is 1088m long and the other is 2177m long.

In Klingon Bird Of Prey Owner's Workshop Manual, the B'rel and the K'vort have comparable size disparity.

I hope one day FFG does a reboot of Armada with a single scale. Can't wait to read the angry topics about how expensive an ISD is, and how those wealthy enough to buy one can't fit it through the door. Suddenly topics will be begging for FFG to return to the way Armada is now, but it'd be too late.

I better get buying! Before the scale-whiners get their wish.

I really doubt anyone would be too upset if Armada was a bit better in scale.

But that's seriously derailing the topic. I just was surprised to find out that the Interdictor in Rebels is supposed to be a Star Destroyer given how small it looked next to the Arquitens.

Sheer awesome factor goes to the Executor (and most of Fractalsponge's Star Dreadnoughts). But I have a special place in my heart for the Venator .

Came here looking for the picture of the Arquitens smashing into the Interdictor.

Was not disappointed. :)

to get back on topic, the venator is the best star destroyer. It was the first that the empire had, and it helped create the empire. The history behind that model of ship is astonishing, not to mention the stories of the men who served on or from them (crew and troopers). It is a symbol of the most influential conflict of star was lore: The Clone Wars. Just as the clones will be my fav soldiers, commander cody my fav character, so too shall the mighty venator be my fav SD. While Episode III is no longer my fav star wars movie (thanks rogue one), The 8 year old in me will forever be attached to the troops and ships of the Grand Army of the Republic.

For me, I love the VSDs and the old Acclamator-classes because they could descend into atmosphere. That, I think, gives them an extra "cool factor". Also, I loved using them in Empire at War, aka the game every Armada fan has played at least the demo of :)

In the new canon, all Star Destroyers can apparently descend into the atmosphere (see Rebels and Rogue One).

They look ridiculous doing it (particularly in Rogue One when it is bizarrely flying away from the Holy City at an absurdly slow speed), but they can do it.

And in the game, Battlefront, even Super Star Destroyers can even enter atmosphere.

RebelPilot2016, I totally loved Empire at War and its expansion, Forces of Corruption. When I would build my Imperial Fleet, I fully understood the "evil laugh". I mean, amassing epic numbers of VSD's and ISD's, and then sending them into battle against the pitiful rebellion....mua ha ha ha.

That wonderful feeling when you call in your reinforcements in EAW and they zoom out of hyperspace right where you want them... space battles are the best

For me it is hands down the Executor-class Star Dreadnought. The shape is far more intimidating than the door-wedge of the Imperial class.

With the lack if any SSD in Armada I default to the interdictor though.

Super Star Destroyer.

It's massive, powerful, and intimidating. I love it's design and a ship that large is just so impressive to me. It's first appearance cast its shadow over multiple ISDs (the previous biggest ship we'd seen in Star Wars) and it perfectly represented the Imperial war machine.

The ISD will always hold a special place in my heart, but the Super Star Destroyer is definitely my favorite.

Yet it only takes one A-wing crashing into the bridge to take it out....

The Chimaera I feel is the Imperial version of the Enterprise. When it shows up in battle you know stuff is about to get real plus in the Thrawn Trilogy books we get to see the crew evolve into a proper fighting force.

However the Devastator is very close as well due to that scene in Rogue One when it warps in...

Seems like a Super Star Destroyer would **** near alter local weather by entering atmosphere!

LOL! True, but it did take a couple of fighters attacking one of its shield generators to open the way for that sadly happy accident. :)
