No Wonder I Thought It Was So Hard

By Master Fwiffo, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

So I'm running a demo Saturday and I'm super excited, and to make sure I'm prepared Im watching a couple gameplay videos on Youtube to see if I've missed any rules.

I missed the Mulligan you get, but that's ok.

What caught me off guard was that you Start with 5 resources! I had no idea! I've always spent my first two turns trying to gather resources. No wonder it ended up being so hard!

I wonder what else I've missed..:

Engaged monsters follow the investigator if he moves to another location.

Doom tokens on enemies count towards the total on the agenda card.

That's the two oversights I made. Altough in those cases they made the game easier.

Here's a question: If you're engaged with an enemy, does it get an attack of opportunity Everry time you do an action (that you isn't attack or evade) or just the first time each turn?

Second question: If an enemy says "Spawn at a certain location type", there are multiple of that type in play, and your Investigator is also at that location type, does the monster spawn at the Investigators location or can you choose one of the other valid locations?

The monster can keep attacking you if it is engaged and you are doing other actions besides evade/fight/resign/parley(with another enemy or that enemy).

You get to pick if there are multiple valid locations. If you are on the only location of that type then it would spawn were you are, but two or more valid places and you can choose.

I was playing it harder also, because I forgot that when the Agenda deck advances you discard all doom, that includes doom on enemies in play. I use to think it was only the doom on the Agenda Card.

I also forgot that after a monster attacks during the enemy movement phase, they become exhusted. I orginally thought they stay engaged.

Every time.

They become exhausted during their attack action but this does not unengage them from the investigator they're on, since during the upkeep phase ALL cards are readied, including those on your investigator. Exhausted is different than engagement.

Which is why evade can be such a powerful tool. If you succeed, disengaged AND exhausted, which means they can not make attacks of opportunity, they cannot use the Retaliate ability, they will not get an attack during the enemy phase and they will not move with you. Evade can be a HUGE tactical advantage.

During my first two scenarios, I didn't realize that you removed all Doom tokens when the Agenda upgrades (as each Doom value increases from card to card). I was trying to win with about 6 less turns than I should have had.

That's an extremely powerful effect. If there's an Enemy with Doom on it, but the Agenda would advance anyways next turn, you don't need to rush to kill it. Also for timing when to play player cards that carry doom, like the Initiate. The Doom clearing timing is a great strategy if you use it correctly.
