Expertise Niches

By CJKeys, in X-Wing

Ha, Score on OL. Thats rich. Never thought of that.

I wish there were a way to get Expertise on a Ghost with docked Phantom. Kanan would love this.

there are ways to get enough focus such that you might as well have expertise, I guess

Ion Cannon Tie D Vessery! My body is ready! I was using ruthlessness, but now, I know where my loyalties lie!
It's always been too heavy into Vessery, but I still love it! He's going to hit even more like a hammer now.

oh right, almost forgot

put expertise on Kylo Ren

the angry bugger with it and FCS is completely taken care of; can even target-lock on approach to get immediate full modifiers

got FCS set-up? Great! Bump city; who gives a crap? You always get fully modified 4 red dice.

Don't bump? Sweet, you can coordinate!

you can also boost if you spring for engines

40 points is VCX territory, and honestly and shuttle isn't durable, but it is chunky enough to be worth it at that range

Kylo may not be as durable as a VCX, but also makes up for it with his pilot ability.

So you can shoot him, but he'll shoot your eyes out in return unless you have Determination.

somebody will shoot your eyes out

doesn't have to be kylo

Kylo makes sure it's the eyes.

Give that man a medal, that's such a brilliantly nasty thing to bring against low Agi ships.

As for Expertise, one more reason to bring Stressbots/Rebel Captives to the table.

Yeah as soon as the card was spoiled I was thinking it's just a less reliable, more expensive predator. At first glance it appears to be better than predator, but that's before you factor in that it can be turned off (rather easily too). It also requires a TL instead of a focus for the double modifier, which telegraphs your target if you can even acquire it.

On 3 dice: 0.436

With focus: 0.434

On 4 dice: 0.469

With focus: 0.513

Odds of using expertise :

On three dice: 0.578

On four dice: 0.684

Expertise is a few things, but it it is not less reliable.

The EPT even features a blind force user!

I might try Expertise on Porkins and/or Ello Asty.

Oh, that's filthy. Hadn't seen that before, but good for a budget Omega Leader.

It is the only use for that card at the moment.

Maybe put expertise on Keyan?

Maybe put expertise on Keyan?

I can't see it being better than push the limit in any situation.

Why would you put expertise on Keyan? He practically has an offensive focus w/o any upgrades.

True, i just figured that if, for some reason, he isn't stressed, he wouldn't have to focus for his action (save for that one agility die)

Why would you put expertise on Keyan? He practically has an offensive focus w/o any upgrades.

for the (rare with the way people build him) times he isnt stressed

You might also just focus in those instances. He isn't going to save that token for defense, probably.

Not to mention Keyan plays into the weakness of the Bwing - its maneuver dial is full of reds. Every time i fly a Bwing i am CONSTANTLY doing red maneuvers to get a shot, either the 1hard or the 2k. With Keyan, i want to do those maneuvers, and with Adv Sensors i get my TL anyway.

As an ability, Expertise can make APTs work. It's just too expensive. But the basic action economy - being able to focus offensively and TL in the same round - is what you want.

I was just trying to think of a way i'd build keyan the way i'd want to, i understand people have their playstyles that work, but i tried doing that and he just became a ball of fire before he could do anything really effective

It's a B-Wing. If the opponent has something that reliably does a lot of damage (and who doesn't nowadays?) then Keyan's heap of points is a prime target. I've had occasional success with Stay on Target/Intelligence Agent on Keyan. Turns him into an arc dodger. You could fly him next to Kanan. Kaneyan?

I don't have a ghost yet, but there was a sale on it a while ago and a family member went to the store it was then the next day there's an oddly x-wing box shaped present under my tree, so who knows?

Major Rhymer + Expertise + APT + EM

Because who doesn't love stupidly overpriced Rhymer builds. I make them for no Rhymer reason.
