May I suggest for Rogue One the initialism TPK?

I didn't like the music, dull I thought.

The CGI wasn't bad, but they probably showed Tarkin too much. Short lines or like Leia's appearance is probably it's current comfort zone.

I didn't like any of the speeches. Saw's, Galen's, Jyn's, they just weren't good. When the movie is telling/showing the story it does well. When someone starts to giving a speech, not so much.

Favorite character is easily Cassian.

Loved Vader's place.

Loved that all the 'good' guys died.

Loved the continuing politics, Krennic pissed at Tarkin, wanting an audience with emperor so badly, Vader handing out orders, good stuff.

Fleshing out the Alliance a bit more was good also.

Overall I'm happy to see more content and the universe expanded and filled out.

Now I wanna hear more on the TV ideas.

I found the action scenes well-shot, and the movie to be visually stunning in general, but I was not impressed by the characters. Apart from the droid and Donnie Yen, they felt generic. The darker tone had some serious missteps: the ramming scene, while it would have been totally appropriate in Return of the Jedi, was out of place here.

Better than the prequels, but not as good as the originals, and not as good as The Force Awakens (which gets the edge because Finn and Rey were better characters than the leads in this one).

Okay, just saw it. I know other people have mentioned it, but I HAVE to talk about it:

That last scene with Vader. Oh. My. Force.

THAT is exactly the Darth Vader we needed to see. He was terrifying and implacable and just perfectly unstoppable, and it shows why the Rebellion is so afraid of him. You hear his breathing for a second in the dark, and then that lightsaber lights up...perfection. Or as close to it as we could possibly have gotten.

Will comment on the rest of the movie when I've had a little more time. Although I am a bit disappointed that MatPat was wrong - I would have liked that particular plot twist. But I can also appreciate the TPK as necessary in an actual war movie.

And stormtroopers that don't miss unless you have plot armour.

Am I the only one that thought the Star Destroyers looked a little off? They looked like someone forgot to paint the mini's or something.

Oh, and did one of the x-wing pilots look/sound sort of like Larry the Cable Guy to anyone else? haha

I like how they recreated Red and Gold leader, I think they were CGI. The whole space battle was amazing and does explain why the rebellion has so little ships at the battle of Yavin. Poor Red 5, well he was there to die cause we know who belongs with that number.

I am pretty sure they were lifts straight out of the DS battle in A New Hope

I noticed that it could be them pulling footage from Star Wars or CGI, seeing as they did both CGI on Leia and Tarkin I guessed it was used there too

Some observations:

• Not sure HOW I feel about a Star Wars movie without Star Wars music. The sound they did use has a remix of the original score, like they samples parts ever so briefly. I don't think anyone complained that The Force Awakens had the beginning scroll and Star Wars music. It was the rest that was duplicated. What's done is done, though. It ain't going back in.
  
• Yes, HUManoid, some of the Star Destroyers looked like plastic models for 4-year olds. They couldn't out-do (or even replicate) real plastic models from the 1970's. Sad. Just sad.
  
• The droid's voice was all wrong. It just sounded like 3PO all of the time. It seemed to have 3PO mannerisms half the time, which made it difficult to understand it as a separate character. Seemed more like a Disney robot in a kids film that a SW droid.
  
• Yes, Desslok, the beginning of the movie was boring exposition. It NEEDED a crawl and then jump into action. Simply put... "....Having been forced to complete the Death Star..... the Alliance learns of the weapon and seeks to...." ...then GO!!! For being the ONE movie without a crawl, it was the ONE movie that needed one!

• Not sure what was with all of the world-hopping in parts. It didn't really matter if we knew the planet's name or not. Other than Yavin 4.
  
• The planetary shield was cool as was gaining entry through the gate. Imaginative and new.
  
• One thing I really didn't like was all of the "contrived" challenges. I mean, she's climbing out of the tower and there's this metal carrot-slicer portal she has to jump through. Why? What purpose does it serve to be there? A meaningless trap like a D&D 10ft pit in the middle of a room. And then some 'switch' that has to be flipped? I mean, JUST to set up an artificial combat objective? It served no purpose. It was just at a random, open spot to give them an opportunity to kill off the rest of the group. It wasn't compelling and didn't fit at all. LOTS of movies have those artificial, irrelevant objectives these days. "Why do I have to flip that switch?" "Because it's in the script."
  
• I liked bumping into the Doctor and Walrusman in the street. Quick, cool, showed their feistiness. Added to what you see in IV.
  
• Reserving all the lightsaber play until the Vader scene made the scene 10x's better.
  
• Never explained why Cassian shot the grenadier in the city scene.
  
• CGI Tarkin and the rest were fine with me. I spent a minute or two trying to figure out how they did that. I thought it was pretty excellent. I thought it pushed past a new threshold of movie-making.
  
• The Director looked pretty shabby most of the time. Didn't seem right.
  
• I didn't do any read-up before seeing it. I only wrote down character names so I'd know who was who. It would have helped to know that Rogue One, as most knew it, does not exist in the movie. (i.e. a group of ace special forces pilots) Maybe a later group takes up the name???

• The AT-AT's went down like they were made of tinfoil. Legs blowing apart and everything. I guess they HAD to in order to fit the script. Couldn't put a scratch on those things a few months later on Hoth.

IMO the Darth Vander scene attacking the troopers is the best Star Wars scene of all time.

Overall, I loved this movie. I would say "A New Hope," "Rogue One," and "Empire Strikes Back" are my top three. I thought the darker, grittier, rough-and-tumble take on the Rebellion was well-handled and needed. I also like that the "Blind Jedi" was presented ambiguously with his actual status open for interpretation. I don't object to the nods and winks to the fanboys as I am one. I appreciated that the writers took the time to work them in.

In terms of the GGI, I felt Tarkin was much better executed than Leia. It took me a moment to realize it with Tarkin, with Leia I instantly caught it and found it - for the split second you see her - off-putting. Overall, the main cast was superbly chosen and delivered an excellent performance. There were a few moments that pushed the envelope in terms of camp, but THIS IS STAR WARS!!!

My only disappointment was that I wanted-expected the score to be more Star Warsy. It was dramatic and appropriate, but it didn't feel quite right. The absence of the crawl made total sense to me. What were they going to say: Episode 3.5? Its an anthology-background film, not a part of the trilogy-of-trilogies meta-plot driven by the Skylwalker-line. They did forget to identify the planet Vader's citadel is on, which broke the pattern, but overall that didn't bother me.

But... Vader. Fist pumping Yessssss!

Needs more lightsaber.

I could be wrong but after second viewing I think I spied a couple older humans that looked identical with beards in Saw's place, so maybe old clone troopers.

The Bothan thing was ROTJ, not ANH.

I saw this movie last night. My thoughts:

Initially, I was somewhat put off by the lack of opening crawl. Certainly I wasn't LOST going into it, but as a Star Wars fan that's to be expected; however, one of my friends ended up with a clipped ear in the cinema because he kept asking me whispered questions about what was going on - questions that, perhaps, might not have been asked with a simple crawl. Plus, it's tradition, and though the film didn't need it to work, it just... felt wrong? I dunno.

I loved that none of the heroes survived, and that the focus was more on the non-Sensitives. It made it more gritty and insightful, particularly since you caught a glimpse of the less savoury side of the Rebellion. I also liked that there wasn't a romance there; I thought for a while that Cassian and Jyn were building to it, but adding such a relationship would have felt a little forced and unnecessary, and I'm glad it was absent.

The droid. Amazing. :-) Not surprising, given the actor, but he was a welcome dose of dead-pan comedy in what was otherwise a grittier space opera war film - and not in a bad way.

Vader... I, like most others here, LOVED his final scene. The way he dispatched the rebels was incredible, and really gave you insight into his raw power and malice. It made me squeal in the cinema. Loudly. Not going to lie.

Unlike most others it seems, I actually really liked Tarkin's CGI, and felt that Leia looked... odd. Not bad , but odd. Tarkin on the other hand was awesome, but again that's just my humble opinion.

All in all, I loved it. Not sure where I'd rank it compared to the other films, particularly the OT, but it's certainly a great addition to the franchise.

They knew about the weakness but not where it was. Hence the need for the plans. Without them they would not know which port to put the missile into.

Unlike Hoth where they only had access to airspeeders, those were x-wings taking out those walkers. Heavier armament.

I loved it! I thought is way better than TFA, which was just a re-telling of ANH. At least this movie was original, while still being true to ANH...

I'm not here to say anyone who didn't like the movie is wrong. You are entitled to like what you like, and don't like want you don't. Not everyone has to like the same things.

But Durosspacer, do you even Star Wars bro? Being on a SW gaming website, I would expect people to have some love and knowledge of the movies. The Bothan thing is just...just...It almost feels like your trolling here. I don't know...

Some of the points you bring up are just silly....the best word I can think of. K-2SO sounds nothing like 3P0, nor do thy have close to same way of moving. You can't seem to understand the difference between a Space Superiority Fighter, the T-65 X-wing and modified planetary vehicle, the T-47 Snowspeeder. The gunner that shot the AT-ACT was working on it for some time before the knee was finally blown away.

Andor shot the guy with the grenade because he was getting ready to throw it at the front of the tank where Jyn was. Andor was procteing her.

I'm not here to argue if people thought is was good or not or say that I'm right and others are wrong, but some of the points being made to show people didn't like it are just...wow. I think we watched a different movie.

Overall, I really liked it. I did think Tarkin looked off, and even Vader looked weird.

I was picking out some the "gaming" moments too. I liked it when Baze (the heavy) mowed down all the minions in a few seconds...it's like he has a Signature Ability or something...

I didn't feel like the first half was a sleeper or boring, it kept me engaged the whole time...well except for the ****** next to me that had to keep checking his phone.

I didn't go in knowing what to expect, and I was not disappointed. This could down as my favorite movie form the Wars. And now we actually see some war in them. I loved how they brought in Blue Squadron. In the original Star Wars novel and screen play it was Blue, but changed it due to the blue screen used...and poor Red 5....I liked the R2/3P0 cameo, it made sense as they would be with Bail.

I give it 8 out of 10.

DurosSpacer the Rogue squadron was formed by Luke and Wedge after the Battle of Yavin this group Rogue One would kinda serve as inspiration to the naming of the squadron in universe even though IRL it's vice versa.
