Snapshot versus Defenders with X2? Timing

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing

What is the correct timing of this, are defenders able to get their free evade before snapshot? Is it based on Initiative, does anyone know?

thanks,

The wording is the same I believe, so it is simultaneous.

Per the FAQ, player with initiative gets their effect first.

Initiative.

If the snapshot player has init, the defender does not have his evade yet.

Good question. Its a shame if initiative resolves this.

Tie x/7 says: After executing a 3-, 4- or 5-speed maneuver, you may assign 1 evade token to your ship.

Snap Shot says: After an enemy ship executes a maneuver, you may perform this attack against that ship. ATTACK: Attack 1 ship. You cannot modify your attack dice and cannot attack again this phase.

Initiative does resolve this. Why is that a bad thing?

I would assume it's a bad thing because it will only work vs. Defenders in "half" of games.

I would like it to be an always thing too, certainly would make it more worthwhile.

But the timing is the same so to init it goes.

We need the text of this X/2 upgrade before we can make any judgments about timing. Can you post the rules? I know I've never heard of an X/2 card.

Avengers, Avengers, Avengers … sorry, could not help myself.

It works all the time. It's just that half the time your odds are less.

It's still an always thing.

Yes, but defenders are the only ship that are immune to this if they have initiative, no other ship is. Seems like an oversight, that needs to be FAQ'ed much like R2D2 and Anti-pursuit lasers was

Immune to what? They're not immune to anything.

Indeed. Although if they've got 3 green dice and an evade token, the odds of doing much with two unmodified red dice is pretty low.

The thing is, the odds of doing much with a snap shot is low anyway. As a rule, people will only be taking snap shot on people with another trick up their sleeve (stress, tractor, extra dice, whatever).

Also - if you're worried about this, take an initiative bid! I have exactly the same issue in games I play with epsilon squadron, where Assaj Ventress says "have a stress token" and Epsilon Leader says "why would I want to do that?".

Getting snapshot against them without tokens. Green dice will always betray you enventually

I think we're in a mess of double negatives here.

Even assuming you mean what I think you do - that /x7s are the only ships that can have a token to defend against Snap Shot - then a: you're not even close to correct because Advanced Sensors exist, as do a whole bunch of ways of holding onto tokens across rounds, and/or taking actions before moving, and that's not even taking into account the fact that Upsilons are coming and bringing Co-Ordinate with them, and b: so what?

Because all those things cost extra points, Defenders are already hard to kill, and I don't believe the designers wanted snap shot to not work against them

How does it not work? You still get to shoot at them, then if they use thier evade token for the snapshot (which you seem to think is a huge problem), then they don't have it for later for follow up shots or juke.... it works just fine. I fail to see the problem.

It works fine. If it strips tokens, that's gold against a Defender, especially if it then persuades them not to take a focus so that they can BR out of arc, and you can shoot their tokenless behind with another ship.

I would love it if a Defender spent his or her evade token dodging a two dice attack.

When they are submitted there I can never find them again? The search feature on this site sucks. sorry if it worked I might actually put stuff there.

Seriously? That's a link to the rules sub-forum and it certainly does work. Most questions are answered within hours, often it's within a few minutes. Topics stay on the front page there for longer than they do here in the main forum.

You can also use an external search engine and tell it to only return results from this (or any other) site.

I searched for this question using snapshot+defender, nothing came up? Except stuff with the word snapshot.

Probably because it hasn't, to my knowledge, been asked previously. Keffisch's point was that new questions should be asked there too. Keeping all of them in one sub-forum makes searching them easier.
