If I put a gun to your head and another to your stomach. Then I put down the one I had pointed at your head and say I'm going to now pull the trigger. You say oh thank God I'm going to pick the one you had to my head because it no longer matters. I pull the trigger and you get shot. Now while you are on the ground with a stomach wound you can praise God all you want that you didn't get shot in the head. My hole point is don't abandoned common sense.
On a serious note....
Can you point to an instance where you think someone abandoned common sense? Because the consensus here is that the ruling for "Let the Wookiee Win" is in keeping with common sense.
This example you've given is obviously meant to relate to "Let the Wookiee Win". But you are giving a poor analogy. A better analogy would be that if you are playing a game of Chess against a very strong and angry opponent, you could either let them win, or take a beating from a sore loser.... But when the card ends up being ignored, it's the equivalent of "I was going to lose that game anyway, so I while I did lose, I was already about to lose, so I didn't have to actually DO anything".
That or you weren't even playing a game of chess, so there was no option to make.
But don't make analogies in general. It dilutes your specific complain.
I'm going to guess that you simply don't like the ruling for "Let the Wookiee Win". You don't like that the card can potentially be played at a time where it has no effect. Is that your complaint? This card, and possibly others like it, can be played at times where they effectively "Fizzle" and do nothing?
If I'm right... consider this:
Suppose all my characters had 3 shields and I rolled all shield sides on my dice. Same thing. I can either resolve those dice, giving shields to my characters, which end up doing nothing... or I can make a choice to play the turn differently. I could maybe discard a card to reroll those dice. Or I could pass.... knowing that my opponent may attack me, giving me an ideal opportunity to resolve some shield dice to replenish my depleted shields.
There is strategy in this game and some of that strategy involves playing cards and making choices at the right time.
