This is not Magic !

If I put a gun to your head and another to your stomach. Then I put down the one I had pointed at your head and say I'm going to now pull the trigger. You say oh thank God I'm going to pick the one you had to my head because it no longer matters. I pull the trigger and you get shot. Now while you are on the ground with a stomach wound you can praise God all you want that you didn't get shot in the head. My hole point is don't abandoned common sense.

On a serious note....

Can you point to an instance where you think someone abandoned common sense? Because the consensus here is that the ruling for "Let the Wookiee Win" is in keeping with common sense.

This example you've given is obviously meant to relate to "Let the Wookiee Win". But you are giving a poor analogy. A better analogy would be that if you are playing a game of Chess against a very strong and angry opponent, you could either let them win, or take a beating from a sore loser.... But when the card ends up being ignored, it's the equivalent of "I was going to lose that game anyway, so I while I did lose, I was already about to lose, so I didn't have to actually DO anything".

That or you weren't even playing a game of chess, so there was no option to make.

But don't make analogies in general. It dilutes your specific complain.

I'm going to guess that you simply don't like the ruling for "Let the Wookiee Win". You don't like that the card can potentially be played at a time where it has no effect. Is that your complaint? This card, and possibly others like it, can be played at times where they effectively "Fizzle" and do nothing?

If I'm right... consider this:

Suppose all my characters had 3 shields and I rolled all shield sides on my dice. Same thing. I can either resolve those dice, giving shields to my characters, which end up doing nothing... or I can make a choice to play the turn differently. I could maybe discard a card to reroll those dice. Or I could pass.... knowing that my opponent may attack me, giving me an ideal opportunity to resolve some shield dice to replenish my depleted shields.

There is strategy in this game and some of that strategy involves playing cards and making choices at the right time.

My hole point is don't abandoned common sense.

Says the guy trying to relate getting shot and card games...

I just hope this game doesn't impliment reactive counters. I do think that idea ruined magic and ruins any game it's in. Point counter point is fun, spending 10 minutes and 15 cards to ultimately do nothing is not.

I like to make more than 1 deck. Having extra commons helps with that.

Long turns generally happen because of the stack, and guess what? Destiny has a stack. Instant speed effects don't really slow the game down on their own.

Best thread ever! I lolled :-)

I actually find the commons very useful; I'm 6 decks in and haven't found a card yet that looks completely unplayable. Compare a pack of Destiny to a pack of MTG and you'll appreciate just how playable Destiny's commons and uncommons are relative to it.

I was talking about that these cards are trash after second display as you have already each of them.

Nobody will trade uncommons against commons and so they are useless if you have already two of each common card!

I will PM you my address, you can send those worthless cards to me and I will help build a community of players in my area.

I kind of feel like he's complaining that he bought too many cards and now has extras that he can't use. It's a CCG. That happens. I would imagine that most long time Magic players have literally thousands if not tens of thousands of commons that they could dump in the garbage without impacting their playset.

Yeah, we are beating a dead horse. It's been fun. I want kids to want to play this, I.E. my kids with me and I don't want to see it become another Magic clone.

*facepalm*

So because I had some time at lunch, I decided to read some posts about Destiny. I choose this thread and because I did I feel like I lost time. I could have choose another option but instead decided this one because I like Magic and Wookiees.

See what I did there?

Learn to be a better role model and maybe they'll want to play with you more.

With Destiny's mechanics being "I take an action, then you take an action, ect.", you will probably never have to fear reaction counters coming into play. The closest thing to that is Jango Fett's ability, and it's both a fair and balanced ability. I doubt we'll see many, if any, cards that can be played as reactions only because it would mess with the play format and design Destiny has.

The "10 minutes and 15 cards to ultimately do nothing" issue really only comes when you're playing certain types people in Magic. The kind that like to play tons of reactionary cards to both what their opponents are doing and what they themselves are doing and end up taking way too much time to do so. And while those types of games are a massive pain (my personal #1 pet peeve when playing Magic), they aren't nearly as common as they're said to be.

Usually...

You have not said how it's a magic clone...

Also at home with your kids play the game how ever you want.. if you want to change let the wookie win then do so.

I kind of feel like this was a troll thread, a very good one I but hard.

Again you get it wrong and I gave you a perfectly fitting example elsewhere: I have two hands, in my left I have $20 in my right nothing. You pick a hand great for you as you take the $20. I pick a hand, not so good, you'll end up with nothing. That is the rule of choice/choose in action from both players point of view where one of those choices isn't able to be done.

The trouble is here you have a preconceived idea of what the card is to do and want it to fit that, so rather than understand the rules and understand that when given a choice of "bad thing" and "no thing" that no thing is a perfectly valid choice.

If I had a gun in my right hand and nothing in my left which hand do you pick? That is the choice that "Let the Wookie Win" is giving you when you have nothing in one of your hands, it's your choice, I recon you'll pick the hand with no gun all the time.

Give your daughter a quarter/dollar or something, ask her to put it in her right hand and ask her to hand over the contents of one hand to Daddy. Why doesn't she hand you the money? So the hand with nothing is a choice, why does it become a non-choice for you?

Or to put it another way

"How does this work?, who goes first? You go first? I go first?"

I do not like Green Eggs and Jango. I do not like him with a Veers. I do not like him teamed with a bunch of Troopers. Or him sitting next to Jabba. I do not like Green Eggs and Jango.

This made me happy :)

CCG's by nature create a lot of controversy. I started in Magic in 1994 and it was a wild ride. No one could have predicted the crazy things that came about. Local tournaments were won by the player willing to spend the most in the after market to build a deck. I already see some escalating prices for Destiny singles on Cool Stuff, Inc. for Rares and Legionaries which is to be expected. I have several on my "wish list" already. I don't think Destiny will go the way of Magic because of some built-in mechanics. The 30 point starting character limit, unique card rules, card quantity limit and, of course, the randomness of dice rolls and card draw. I learned with Magic that it does not pay to be a "Mr. Suitcase," buying tons of booster boxes, throwing away the commons and trading my dup uncommons and rares. My advice is to invest in a booster box to get started , build some decks, play a lot of games taking note of cards that work well together in your's an your opponents decks. Then plan out a deck strategy for a tournament deck and use the after market to get the main cards and pursue some trades with your gaming group if possible.

I just started a thread and posted a list that cost $42 if bought entirely through the singles (CSG) market. I don't think Destiny will follow in MTG's footsteps. Right now we're seeing inflated prices due to demand. Legendary cards (17 in total) are not even all that scarce really. 1 in 6 boosters have such a card. There are no Myth rares. Come join me in my cheap deck building and help these common cards get some love!
