A few questions from a Talisman Newbie

By Robguy, in Talisman Rules Questions

Greetings,

recently my buddy showed me how to play Talisman. he has the main game with the mountain, Dungeon, Forest, city and Tower expansions. While playing the game a few rules questions popped up that I am hoping to get clarified.

Some of the cards state that they may ignore rolling while in certain areas, for example theCrags. My buddy claims that they are talking about the area named the Crags in the outer region. That seems pretty weak to me and I say that it means any on the mountain board(or forest, dungeon, etc). Which one of us is correct.

Also the Priest and Knight's ability to pray. He says that you can pray anytime ans simply re-roll, but after seeing some cards that allow you to pray I say that it would only work with those cards. Am I correct?

One last thing that seems a bit out of whack with the game rules unless we have been playing wrong is this. Granted I've only played in a few games so far, but in all them he has gotten the Sword from the Forest region(Can't remember the name) that lets you combine your Craft and Strength. By the end of the game with that sword his combined scores are usually around 15 or higher. For most combats there isn't even a need to roll, because failure is impossible. In one game this was even the case with the Dragon King himself. even at 12 power and rolling a six on the dice he couldn't beat my friend who rolled a 1.

This seems way over powered. Granted the sword can be lost, but on my opinion this is just too powerful.

Crags and Forest are the two spaces with those names on the Outer Region. Chasm is the space with that name on the Middle Region. The "ignore rolling" bit referst to the chart/text of those spaces.

Sounds like you're playing the 3rd edition game though, so don't know how accurate these answers are, since that edition differed quite a bit from the "normal" Talisman games of 1st/2nd/4th editions.

Point for you. Look for the Pray keyword for when you can use the bonus (Monk also gets one). Temple, Idol, Shrine come to mind, I think Frostmarch added one or two more with that word.

You are talking about the Sword of Power.

It don't say that you must combine your Craft and Strength.

It says: The Sword of Power allows you to use your Craft instead of your Strength in battle.

So you can attack creatures with craft instead of strength in battle gui%C3%B1o.gif
