"But Emperor, it's raining!"
"Are you serious, GET IN FORMATION FOR ME I AM YOUR LORD AND MASTER!"
It has nothing to do with how the people inside the base would feel... It is about the officer. But it is natural instinct for people who get off a plane to seek cover if it is raining. They certainly aren't going to step off their shuttle and have a meeting to expose a mole on the landing strip in the rain. No; they would step inside. If it helps, think of it in modern terms: do you think the Secretary of Defense has a lot of important meetings outside in the rain next to his plane? No; he is escorted inside to a meeting room or something for the meeting. I suppose it is possible that Krennec was trying to be dramatic, but that feels like us sort of looking back and creating a narrative to cover up the issue, you know?
Listen, it is a little detail, but it felt like the film was FULL of that stuff... Stuff that ignores basic logic and human nature in exchange for story simplicity and "drama," and I hate that sort of thing. The Force Awakens clearly suffered from that too, which is why I thought it wasn't very good (well, that and how much the original characters seemed out of place compared to the two new good guys, who were just fantastic) but I am also willing to give it a TOUCH more leeway, because clearly there is some sort of "The Force continues in cycles/patterns until X y or z" overall story arc going on there.
To each their own, obviously:). I wasn't too impressed by the movie... I'll take from it what I want (great space battle visuals, the filling in of the Star Wars story, the continued displayed friction among Empire commanders, which I love because it feels so natural and real, and so on) and leave what I don't:). It was clearly better than the steaming hot garbage that were the prequels, but not as good as the original trio. I also acknowledge I have ridiculous standards that cannot be met by a mass marketed Disney movie:)

Btw, three specifics....
Loved the scene of Vadar in the bacta tank... We don't get much acknowledgement of the damage his body went through, so I loved seeing that in film form. Though why would be have Royal Guards with him?
Also loved the visuals of the Death Star destroying places. Much better than the "bang POW" instant nature of the originals.
HATED that big slug thing that mind-read the pilot. Felt so awkward. Just use something science based, please, especially since there doesn't seem to be a precedent of mind reading space slugs, no?
Edited by Lord AshramYeah I can see how people will be taken out bu stuff like that or the digital character use. Which is fine, as that's natural for people. But even on a second viewing this film just has me. I am 100% 'in' with this film, so little things like that don't bother me.
Hell, I went into my second viewing thinking I would be bothered by a scene. I remembered Jyn and Cassian being in disguise on Scarif, then for the final scenes on the tower being in their normal costumes. I felt they'd missed a scene and it was a continuity error. Second viewing, scene comes along, and you see them changing. So I was proved wrong on one of the few issues I had
And yeah, the Bor Gullet is still the one thing that even as someone who thinks the film is top 3 Star wars, is pretty odd and just a bit of a throwaway. Not to throw too much shade, but it seems like the most 'George Lucas' part of the film.
"Let's have it be, uh, a creature, uh, that makes them go a bit crazy"
"But why? Can't he just be interrogated?"
"Uh, but...it's a creature..."
Edited by InterceptorMadAgreed. I actually didn't mind the CGI... For me, having the story done "correctly" was worth it, you know? We all know what Tarkin has to be, so that is key to me... Maintaining the proper Star Wars story, you know? I adore the inner workings of the empire, and i'd gladly accept an entire movie about him:)
I didn't look back and read the whole thread... Were people really being mean to each other? For shame; we are all Star Wars nerds here!

Respectful exchanges of opinions? On this forum? Oh, for shame...what has happened to us? Don't we have the Broken Base and Nerd Rage stereotypes to live up to?
They could have greeted him inside. But maybe it was a deliberate order from Krennic to make the situation more dramatic and uncomfortable, after all he went there to make a little show for Galen.
Yes they could have, but that's not how it's done, and you don't act rude to a guy who arrived with his personal escort of double evil stormtroopers.

Oh I didn't mean you specifically, just what I've seen on here. Lots had an issue with Tarkin and Leia.
And yes, film discussion always ends up pretty aggressive

By "meeting" you mean "summary execution" which I'm sure for logistical purposes is held outdoors. Unless you are your own portable gallows, in which case everything is tidy and there's no stray blaster fire.

That's "Mr Palpatine" to you.
vader in a tank would be Vader at his most vulnerable - not surprising at all that Sheev would have sent some guards to stand watch.Btw, three specifics....

And that, yeah. Vader obviously has a lot of people that'd be pretty happy to kill him. Heck, probably half the officers in the Empire, nevermind the rebels, any surviving Jedi, etc.
And we've seen him in combat. You aren't going to be killing him, there . Basically the only way he dies is if something 'assassinates him in his sleep'. Ergo, guards.

Basically this, yeah. I mean, if you are going there planning on executing all of them (and Krennic obviously was)...you do it in an area where there is nowhere for them to run (seriously, where are they going to go out on a platform in the open? Vs being inside the base, with tunnels and rooms to make a run for?), where stray fire won't damage anything important, and where "cleanup" is easier.
The outdoor meeting does, indeed, set the tone for the whole conversation. You think - 'oh...he's asking who the mole is, but he obviously doesn't really care ...they are all dead, already'

Well there is precedent for space slugs, but we don't know their telepathic capabilities do to the sudden need for Han to fly the falcon out of there ASAP. Oh, and Jabba also. But why would the lack of precedent be a bad thing? Episode 5 had no precedent for Imperial Walker, yet did it. No precedent for Bounty Hunter, yet did it... Jedi had to precedent for green lightsabers... but that was awesome. Just because something is new, doesn't make it bad.
I'm with the naysayers about the slug. That was dumb on many levels.

I said I didn't like the movie and was then not-so-subtly told that I should kill myself. People underestimate just how extremely vile it is to start a conversation that way.

It was pointless, and unnecessary, and very, very, VERY George Lucas. Edit: and not the 1970's-1980's George Lucas either, the early-21st-century-incessantly-tinkering-for-the-worse George Lucas.
So yeah, I'll give you that one.

No. That's not what happened. Your original post is was so negative about the film that I said you must be dead inside; as that seems to be the only explanation for how anyone could find no joy in this film.
No one, at any point, has suggested you kill your self.

A guilty conscience speaks. What's that expression? "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."
And then there was this gem:
WonderW: Do you like sex and travel? Yes? Well why don't you just do us all a favour and **** off.
But I guess I'm the bad guy, right?

There was a crack about considering him an alcoholic that didn't have the guts to off himself.
Overall, a lot of people in this thread have needlessly been dicks to WonderWAAAGH.
I found Rogue One to be about as hollow of a Star Wars experience as the special editions were. To each their own, I guess.
"I didn't like it or the special editions, but other people did like it."
It's the written equivalent of a shrug. Wow, what a reason to jump down someone's throat.

Finally saw Rogue one, Loved it on the whole.
It felt a little chopped up and jumpy for the first 20mins but having the set up like that made it easier to set up the rest so worth it.
The others I went with loved how they included leia and tarkin, I found them a little too shiny and verging on the uncanny valley but impressive, most impressive on the whole.
I did however almost laugh out loud at one point as Vader 'minced' his way into the meeting with Kreinik!
All in all a very nice addition to the star wars series with many fun nods to the fans out there.
Yup, I told you to **** off and I stand by it. **** off.
And as for the post where someone did make an inappropriate remark about killing yourself (which I missed); they were immediately called on it.

I don't see that as much justification to continue the dog-pile. Do you want to get back to discussing Rogue One now?
