And the Hammerhead is actually called Hammerhead Corvette! Next Rebel epic for sure.
Amazing film! That final sequence with Darth Vader is the Star Wars best scene ever!

But will we be able to use the same tactic?

Pfft! I won't be happy until it comes to X-Wing Epic!
(but I won't hold my breath!)
That was absolutely brilliant.
It was so exciting to see old characters back, the nods to Rebels, Vader being Vader, X Wings being amazing. The new characters were interesting and I hope that we see some comics giving some back story for some of them.
My only gripe was the start, as I felt it was missing a key element of Star Wars, but it didn't really spoil the movie for me.

I KNOW...
yeap ........ 100% agree loved it.
p.s. so many easter eggs I thought it was April not December
Best SW movie for me. And best Vader scene.
Isn't that scene I guess you are talking about the same scene depicted on his crew card in this game? How did they now?
EDIT: Ninja'd by Vyrago by 6 hours. That teaches me not to answer to a post until I read the entire thread.
I came out from the cinema almost in extasis.
This movie is porn for old school Star Wars fans.
However, as I was driving home and commenting it with my son, I grew grumpier and grumpier after thinking...
Probably most of you here don't agree with me. But watching this movie just made me realize how disappointing, lazy, unimaginative, bland and missed opportunity The Force Awakens was.
Rogue One is everything The Force Awakens wasn't.

What a brilliant film! Lucasfilm did right by the older, more hardcore fans with Rogue One. Being a spinoff gave them the freedom to be more edgy and dark. Although I still really like TFA I think this one will have a longer lasting appeal for us hardcore fans.
Seen it yesterday and loved it. It was really great at being Star Wars while introducing something fresh (gritty war movie angle). Shocked by the ending and how they wiped out almost everyone.
I agree that the tie-in with ANH could have been handled better -
The Tantive IV escaping the battle wasn't the best narrative choice, especially given some of the contextual cues of A New Hope (eg, Princess Leia trying to convince Vader she was on a diplomatic mission, on a ship that would have just been spotted at a battle)
This, exactly this. Not as bad as some major inconsistencies between the original / prequel trilogy (Leia remembering her mother), but it was a bit jarring. Stil, if you don't look into it THAT much it's a very nice tie-in.
Also, didn't notice Dutch and Garven - thanks to you guys for pointing that out
But I had the feeling that the WHOLE Rebel fleet got annihilated and just the Tantive escaped - do we see any ships fleeing the battle site? Have to watch it again ASAP
Also, really loved "General Syndulla", nice nod. And the space battles were pure porn for us X-Wing lovers
Additionally, as far as X-Wing / Star Wars tie-ins go, i LOVED the fact, that Cassian Andor is, in fact, an Intelligence Agent, just a really good one... and that's precisely what he is in the game
Also, my gf also didn't recognize Tarkin as being CGI, massive props to Industrial Light and Magic for that.

On the other hand, Vader might not know Leia was on board. In ANH, she tries the "diplomatic mission" bluff, but Vader doesn't buy it even for a second. Makes sense, since he saw the Tantive escape.
I loved the pacing (I found TFA was to fast) and all the fan boy Easter eggs. The got the comedy relief right with K-2SO (none of that jaa jaa style crap). Fantastic SFX and a story line that fitted to ANH crawler
I would have loved to have seen a crawler into for this film, with a bit of back story from Catalyst (finished reading it just in time for the film)

This is how I justify it in my mind as well. Besides the Tantive IV was actively returning fire against the Devastator before being boarded in ANH. If they were trying to pose as a consular ship why would they blow their cover like that. Seems like Leia and Cpt. Antilles made an off-the-cuff fib out of desperation.
I thought it was a good movie, and not just a good Star Wars movie. To parrot previous posts I enjoyed the darker vibe throughout; desperate Rebels rather than shiny good guys.
I got a real kick from:
- Seeing R2 and 3PO.
- Hearing Wedge getting a call out, and Obi Wan getting an indirect but obvious mention.
- Hearing 'Syndulla' over the tannoy, and then seeing a parked VCX in the very next scene.
- Seeing Pignose and Scott up to no good.
- The crowd on the asteroid base; I found that very convincing.
- Vader's rampage.
In fact, I pretty much enjoyed the lot... I was slightly disappointed that
the awesome scene from the trailer of Jyn limping towards the hovering TIE was cut, and was a bit sad that the Strikers were so useless (not super inspiring to buy one)
but it's hardly the end of the world!
Can't wait to watch it again: bravo!
I was also really disappointed that
Leia was there during the battle.
But it was filled with incredible Easter eggs too.
My favorite was Blue Squadron. The would have been wiped out to a man inside the planet's shield if it wasn't for the three X-wings that was locked out. They are the reason Blue Squadron could participate in the Battle of Yavin 4 as a pure X-Wing squadron. I really enjoyed that subtle detail.
Not that I didn't
enjoy
it..... but it was
OK
.
It didn't thrill me as much as I hoped. I don't know. Can't really put my finger on it. A lot of the action was great to watch, plenty of tie-ins to the OT, the 3D was worth it (which I can take or leave most of the time).
The main cast and their coming together didn't gel over with me.
Eh, I honestly can't pin down what it was I didn't like, because I did enjoy the movie. I don't know, perhaps second pass will freshen me up.
Donnie Yen, come on, he has to be feeling some sort of force connectivity. Otherwise to me he was just DareDevil.
I've seen it twice now, and first of all I still really like it. Not without flaws but few movies are, and it was close enough for me to really get into what it did right.
What occurred to me, though... di
d anyone else notice just how many shots from the trailer are not in the film?

There must have been HUGE reshoots and re-editing. That they went through that and came out the other end with a movie this good is frankly a miracle. I think that credit may lie at the feet of Disney not the director. I was at the Tuesday premiere screening and in the cast & crew Q&A somebody from the audience asked "Who is the biggest Star Wars Rebel?" and Kathleen Kennedy (Producer) replied that it was Gareth Edwards "because he went rogue a bunch of times making this film" and he looked about ready to disappear into a hole in the ground.
Marzipan Tarkin really annoyed me, the rest was fantastic.
Hell, even CGI Leia (although they should have just shown her from the back, as EP IV literally starts RIGHT after the end credits...)

I really like Tarkin, I think it looks good most of the time and it was a great swerve that he was so central to it. One of my favourite elements.
