Also, I think the cargo shuttles are smaller than they should be to actually ferry cargo for moom-sized stations and would have preferred Sentinel or even Gozanti class ships.
There are two types of cargo shuttles, the second one is much larger.

Plus ship size is dictated by landing space.
Bigger ships would need to land away from Jedda City where they would be more open to ambush from the insurgents. The 4 winged Landers used can land under the shadow of the ISD and right were the Stormtrooper garrison is strongest.
In fact maybe that's why there happens to be a crashed Partisan Xwing where we see it. With Saw hitting the shipments and ground security ramped up they have been risking fighter hit and runs in the city itself? There sure is a lot of air activity around the landers if I remember right.
Dammit need to rewatch this so bad!
eMeM is correct, you see it twice and Hera is called over the tannoy.
iirc it was general, which should be her father.

She could have received another promotion.
And the Hammerhead is actually called Hammerhead Corvette! Next Rebel epic for sure.
Amazing film! That final sequence with Darth Vader is the Star Wars best scene ever!
Anakin was a lot faster and flashier in the other prequels. The whole scene was just CGI fanservice, which is fine, but it was dragged out and unbelievable on the top of it, which was super silly. It was basically a cheap movie trick.
I would like to say "glad it worked for you", but because those cheap tricks work so well, we keep seeing them over and over and over again in passable, but mostly uninteresting movies. So am happy for you, but still would prefer that people would not be so happy, about so cheap fan service scenes.

Yeah why would fans like scenes designed to service them?
Those **** fans.
Wait.
I thought it was a good movie, and not just a good Star Wars movie. To parrot previous posts I enjoyed the darker vibe throughout; desperate Rebels rather than shiny good guys.
I got a real kick from:
- Seeing R2 and 3PO.
- Hearing Wedge getting a call out, and Obi Wan getting an indirect but obvious mention.
- Hearing 'Syndulla' over the tannoy, and then seeing a parked VCX in the very next scene.
- Seeing Pignose and Scott up to no good.
- The crowd on the asteroid base; I found that very convincing.
- Vader's rampage.
In fact, I pretty much enjoyed the lot... I was slightly disappointed that
the awesome scene from the trailer of Jyn limping towards the hovering TIE was cut, and was a bit sad that the Strikers were so useless (not super inspiring to buy one)
but it's hardly the end of the world!
Can't wait to watch it again: bravo!
Was not Wedge, was Captain Raymus Antilles.

Exactly, it so cheap and effective, why would anyone bother with making a good movie if the fanatics take fan service over substance anyway? ^-^
Makes me wonder though, Transformers is full of fan service too. Why it does not work with a certain crowd of fanatics as well as it works for the star wars fanatics.

It... does.
You know the Transformers movies have been so successful they've made 5 of them, right?
I thought that scene was a little derpy, but I enjoyed it a lot. My exact words at the time were 'this is dumb, but it's Star Wars AF, and I love it', especially because of the obvious reference to the Super Star Destroyer crashing into the DSII in Jedi.
Personally, when I'm watching Star Wars, I really couldn't give two hoots about physics. We're talking about a setting with pew pew lasers and space wizards. As long as it evokes the right emotions, IDGAF.
Meanwhile the transformers movies are called the worst movies in the world by plenty of people and their success as movies is highly irrelevant when hasbro's toy sales depend on the movies anyway. They are advertising movies after all. ;-)
That Michael Bay is one of the most genius directors to toy together cheap tricks of movie making into something people enjoy to watch as summer blockbusters is just a bonus. They would keep making them even at a loss. ^-^

You seem to like rogue one as a meme and not as a movie. ;-)
Great 120 minute meme, bad movie?
Speaking of memes, now as disney owns star wars and marvel, they are even using star wars memes for their guardian of the galaxy trailer, that worked really great. I was thrilled to see the millennium falcon interiors and then the guardians music started to play. ^-^
Edited by SEApocalypseAm I actually seeing an argument that the Vader scene is just badly put together fan service?
Each to their own of course but personally I'm a little staggered. I've been waiting 33 years to see why everyone (including 4yr old me) was so scared of Vader. His 'tricks' in the OT are **** impressive but this is the first time on the big screen that Vader has actually wrecked house.
I loved it. It was hardly drawn out? He comes in, beast modes everyone in about 60 seconds and single handedly comes withing about 2 seconds of stopping A New Hope even happening..
I really dont get what's drawn out, derpy or badly done about it?
For me, I think Rogue One is a solid 8/10 at least as a movie. 9 or 10 as a Star Wars movie and that Vader scene can have an 11 out of 10 because Star Wars doesnt have to make sense.
That's the beauty of being a Science Fantasy Opera as opposed to Science Fiction.
Edit... So that was a fanboy post if ever I've posted one.. I'd actually be Intetested to hear 'why' that particular scene isnt sitting right with you guys though.
Edited by kopmcgintyThey make a drama about passing a usb stick through a door slit. Everyone knows that all those rebel troopers are dead. And how Vader kills them is fine, but the cheap drama inducing, trying to make it an emotional sense is cringe worthy. It could have been a good scene of pointless, but enjoyable fanservice.
It is cheap, predictable and boring. And we have seen Anakin doing exactly this kind of stuff by now doing at least a hundred times in other prequels. First time with the mask and on the big screen, ok, but no point to make the scene loaded with artificial tension.
I thought it was about the hammerhead cruiser scene.
That's what I was discussing, anyway.
I came out from the cinema almost in extasis.
This movie is porn for old school Star Wars fans.
However, as I was driving home and commenting it with my son, I grew grumpier and grumpier after thinking...
Probably most of you here don't agree with me. But watching this movie just made me realize how disappointing, lazy, unimaginative, bland and missed opportunity The Force Awakens was.
Rogue One is everything The Force Awakens wasn't.
Let it sink in a few days more and you might realize that rogue one is the empire strikes back of the force awakens. You might get TPM levels of grumpiness ^_°
On the plus side, this time they did not ripped of star wars itself off has hard, but I am pretty sure that I have seen that movie at least a dozen times before. ;-)

The hammerhead cruiser scene is just a little cringe worthy. I am fine with that, it a little bit of giant a plothole, but hey, its star wars, it's fine. Though it adds up with all the other silly, illogical things which break universe internal consistency.

**** those movies, I unironically watch only Kubric and independent cinema *tips fedora* ^-^

Honestly i think the "drama" of the scene was ok. Sure we knew it was going to make it through as we have seen A New Hope but the trooper had the panic of having Vader wading through everyone knowing you have zero chance yourself. I actually like that kind of heroics. No one would ever know, no glory for him but in that one moment a no one mook saved the Rebellion every bit as much as Luke does.
Seeing Anakin do anything doesn't count. The prequels are not only terrible movies but bad Star Wars movies with only a few redeeming features and Anakins flippity spinny bollocks is not in that small list anywhere for me.
I totally agree it's fan service and yes it's predictable, I just disagree it's badly done I guess.
I agree Rogue One has its issues (hence saying 8 as a movie) I just don't find that scene to be one myself. Quite happy agreeing to disagree though. Can't please all the people and I'd rather they please me than you!
As to TFA it's alright. I really liked it at first viewing but that's because it was what I expected.. a soft reboot. With multimedia viewings, I dont think it stacks up to A New Hope, Empire or now Rogue One at all but that's ok so long as... Well if VIII is just Empire reskinned.. Please dont the do that to us!
I liked it. Vader turning that hallway into a butcher shop was pretty cool. The r2 and 3po shot inside yavin probably should have been cut. That was a little extra. Plenty of fan service in the movie, but for my first viewing, I appreciated it.

I don't like the cultural imprint, that decalcomania picture of star wars that the new star wars movie become.
I still love the prequels and OT in general, especially TCW and Rebels in the prequel era, I just don't happen to like stereotypical hollywood movies in my star wars. ;-)
Star Wars should be something referenced in pop culture by others because it is great, and not a bunch of films referencing themselves constantly for the feel of fan recognition. Star Wars also should be a collage of different themes and things out of different movies, rearranged in new and exciting and unpredictable ways instead of … well being a boring copy.
I can't even say I don't like current star wars, as I really like rebels even when TCW was still better. As Rebels has still a at least one and a half seasons to go it might surpass rebels. It seems to me like Filoni is really the true successor of George Lucas and fits the themes and style of old star wars better, because I honestly don't like the two new canon movies nor the new novels. They are about as bad as the late EU.
So, nah, it's not like I dislike star wars, I dislike so far 2 movies in particular and two novels of the new canon. The rest is ok or even great. (S1 Rebels started a little on the weak side and well, there are issues with the prequel movie trilogy).
With 2 movies on the bad side with me, I think I am even one ahead of most star wars fans. There are plenty of fans who dislike RotS or ANH while even more who dismiss the whole prequel trilogy as crap ;-)

That was what I felt Rogue One was. It was an excellent mash-up of themes and motifs from WWII movies (but different ones from the ones the OT used), spy movies, heist movies, and much darker in tone and subject matter than the OT.
I don't think it was a boring copy of anything.
And I don't have an issue with it dropping in a whole bunch of cameos and references that appeal to fans. Like, at all. They weren't constant, and the film more than stands on its own without them, for me.

I googled this and it seems to be a process for glazing pots or possibly painting surrealist pictures.
SEApocalypse..
Can I ask how old you are? Not as an attack at all, I'm just mystified that the PT can be more Star Wars to you than the new films and in particular Rogue One. I'm 37 so grew up as a little un watching the OT on VHS at EVERY opportunity. Back to back on almost every Saturday morning (being a neglected child had its silver lining!) is how I developed my obsession.
If your a fair bit younger than me and the PT was perhaps your original exposure to the madness that is Star Wars fandom it would explain a lot about the difference in opinion I think.
I was as excited as anyone going in to TPM and sorely disappointed when I had processed it so I do understand how not all Star Wars is equal in people's minds.
Edited by kopmcgintyIt's also worth noting that there was a lot about the PT that I liked as well. The space battles were great, a lot of the ground battles were OK, I even enjoyed the podracing sequence, especially because it led to the wicked cool N64 game. The design and aesthetics generally they nailed down really hard, giving excellent nods to the backstory of which companies built which ships for which sides of which conflicts in the design cues used for small ships on one side versus capital ships on the other, in the clon troopers' helmets being a mix of mando and stormtrooper, etc etc etc.
They were just not good movies, like at all, and had terrible scripts, bad actors (or more likely, bad directors, since Jackson, Portman, and McGregor at least have done WAY better), and way too many comittees.

Exactly that, the process of copying a picture of something onto the surface of something different. Usually done in form of stickers or similar means. A cheap way of copying and transferring pictures. Guess that play of words that not transfer well into the english language.
If you like the mesh-up that is good for you, I found it lacking, The result was not even close as compelling as it was in the original trilogy. Maybe because the sources used were less obscure, maybe because I have seen a lot more movies using those themes by now than I had see 30 years ago , maybe because the resulting picture was exactly like the movies it borrowed from. It just felt to me like I have seen to movie a dozen times over before. So much stuff happen were you could describe the whole scene from just seeing the first 5 Seconds. Each and every death scene in the movie for example, except the second one (the one with Cassian Andor) , which told you how the rest of the movie is going to be.
Ah well, Rebels is back in January.

Internal consistency? The Star Destroyer they rammed was dead in the water, it wouldn't work on an operational one. It was probably taking all the backup power it had not to fall out of orbit.
There may be a real physics argument against it but internally it seemed okay.
Edited by Blue FiveThe nods to the OT don't bug me particularly but I think the film would have been fine without them.
I was left thinking why 3PO and R2 got on a Corvette that was docked in a capital ship that was heading into battle. I also wondered how quickly Evazan left Jedha to get to Tatooine. Must have been on his way to his ship?
Vader was great. We know he can't get the plans, but I never expected it to be that close. It was really **** cool to see him go all out. That's enough.
What excited me more was Y-Wings being useful. They've always been my favourite so it was great to see them do some damage.
