Before TPM there never was an Episode 1. You had either Star Wars, or a few years later Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope. ESB was always 5.
And the episodes refer to the Skywalker saga, R1 is outside of that.
I didn't say the original Star Wars was episode one, I said Star Wars was '1' and ESB was 'Star Wars 2', based on preproduction work. Then they became 'episodes' when ESB was released and Star Wars was renamed ANH. The order of the 'episodes' was 'changed' for the first with the inclusion of IV and V as their episode numbers, hinting that the movies would be released out of order. Only later did George decide that all the 'episode' movies need to about the skywalkers.
Anyway, Vader and Leia are in R1, so that's something.

Clone wars and both ewok movies...what's the fourth?
One of my roomies in college bought me the two pack of ewok movies. They are definitely interesting to say the least. The second has a decent battle at the end though.

No, thank the maker.
Clone Wars movie (2008) is canon.
I will say that R1's music is a John Williams opus compared to the music in the Clone Wars movie. I remember watching it in theaters and thinking 'this music sounds like it belongs on a Saturday morning cartoon show'. I mean I did watch it Saturday morning and it was a cartoon, but still...

FWIW, Kevin Kiner did figure out the whole 'Star Wars' sound as time went on.
He's been the composer for 'Rebels', and there is definitely some very good original material in that series. Ezra's leitmotif, particularly, is a nice integration with the themes for the other Star Wars characters. And he occasionally wanders into Bear McCreary territory and lands some rounds, too.
Giachinno vs even-Rebels-season-3-era-Kiner, though? Ehhhh...man, tough call. Given Giachinno reportedly only had 2 months to work on Rogue One, I guess I'd give the nod to him (assuming he used none of the earlier composer's work - and certainly nothing is credited to him in the OST) as that is a reasonably impressive accomplishment for the quality of it. Still...
Oh yes, the music. I totally forgot to mention that. The first few notes sounded like Star Wars in the opening, but then the song took a turn. I understand he/they made this choice to set the movie apart from the saga movies, but it had the unfortunate side effect: it made the statement to me that, "The movie you are about to see is a parody, just like Spaceballs, Thumb Wars, and so many others you've seen." It didn't end up ruining the movie for me, but it did leave a bitter taste in my mouth. Why not
MichaelMark Griskey to score this!!??
If I were you, i'd look up Krennic's Aspirations, the Imperial Suite, Hope, and the Rogue One theme on youtube and just listen. Don't stress about whether you like or dislike it. Just listen, i'm not saying you will, but you may come to appreciate them better.
I'm doing as you suggested, and forgot how much I liked the first tracks during the jumping between planets to introduce characters portion of the film. I am enjoying it more this time around, but have realised that part of what I'm liking is the same musical cue as Giacchino used in Star Trek, particularly in the track "Enterprising Young Men" from the 2009 film (though in a different key, I think...I don't have the ear or musical training to adequately describe what I'm hearing). So, I'm liking parts of it more, but disliking other parts of it more strongly because I can put my finger on why they drag me out of a galaxy far, far away and into a place where no man has boldly gone.
I haven't gotten to the end of the soundtrack yet, but I think the track that's going to frustrate me most will be the music from the battle above Scarif as I mentioned in my previous post.
Rogue One does have one very good piece of music in Jyn's theme. Kinda reminds me of how the Force Awakens had one really good piece of music in Rey's theme.

This is the thing that is really getting to me so strongly about the score (now listened to a dozen or so times).
Having picked up the soundtracks for all three of the Star Trek films he had done earlier, as they came out, and ALSO listening to them dozens of times - owwwww , he just re-uses SO many queues from them, it burns us (precious!), it burns us.
To be fair, this is hardly a unique fault of his - I mean, geez, listen to the soundtrack for 'The Rocketeer' after 'The Wrath of Khan'... (But, heck, when you've got something that works...why not?)
grrr...dupe post...
Edited by xanderfThe music in Rogue One was so forgettable and un-John Williams like that the only bit I remember is the one that mirrors the prequels, not that it needed another excuse to evoke those films. Incidentally, I re-watched Batman v. Superman today. Now there's a score. I guess there was some redeeming value to 2016 after all.

Hey, Kylo's theme was great. The Resistance theme got hammered into my consciousness thanks to Lego TFA but I've actually become quite fond of it. It's great "All wings report in let's go get them" hype music.
I didn't know till this thread it was the same fit who did Star Trek - makes so much sense now that I know
How has no one pointed out the coolest sequence of music in the film. The music that plays at the finale from just before the Death Star's arrival at Scarrif to the end is perfect and very memorable. The music is what hammers home how depressing that ending sort've is.
So I have seen the movie twice and i'm likely only going to be able to see it once more in its theatre run. Is it any good in 3-D?

Edited for spelling.
Edited by Major TomI liked the ending, it's nice to see rebel scum actually take losses! MWUAHAHA. Which has been my only issue in Star Wars Rebels, well other than episodes such as space whales. The lack of losses endured on the rebel side. They always make it unscathed, only ever losing the worst pilots known in the SW universe (phoenix squadron). It gets rather tiresome to see them win all the time with little to no consequences. Rogue One was a welcome surprise to this, hoping for it to come to Rebels.
TIL that the Jedha Imperial hovertank is not a hovertank, it is a regular, tracked tank.
Wow.
This is gotta be the worst tank design ever. The
firing arcs, weak armor, very limited crew situational awarness and protection, and complete lack of protection for the cargo could be justified if the tank was intended to hover at some respectable attlitude (but then why would it be be so low in the movie?), but apparently it is just a tracked vehicle.
Some on needs to edit the Rogue One e ding so we see the Ghost splattered all over the Devastator's bow as well.

Maybe it isn't actually intended to be a tank. Maybe it is just an armoured transport. Something intended to provide some protection for cargo but not actually designed with front-line fighting in mind.

I know that I am almost a parody of myself wishing for certain characters to die, but so this.
To me, apart from the whole "DUDE, I WAS RIGHT THERE" at the ending I had mentioned previously I think Rogue one is the perfect Star Wars movie. Effective Stormtroopers, which only serve to highlight the rebels bravery, great new characters. It was a great movie that actually made me root for the Rebels. I give it a perfect 7/5.

This doesn't justify the terrible weapon arrangement and crew protection/awareness.

Well, what is Captain Antilles supposed to say there? "You caught us! man, you're good! Is that a new engine upgrade or something?Thought we got away, darn... Best 2-3?" ? I mean they tried to fight off the attack instead of surrendering (which is what a real diplomat would do) so really it was pretty obvious what was going on. But, the captain has to waste time for Princess Leia to hide/ get plans into R2-D2. Don't really think its a plot hole at all.
