A title that would allow you to fire 2 missile/torpedoes at once with the punisher and allowing the defender to double their agility for that one attack would give the punisher its own identity. It would also make it worthwhile to put points into munitions. While not increasing survivability(unless you believe the best defense is a good offense), it will help bring balance to the impossible to hit ships we have been seeing and might bring in more 2 attack dice ships. It would hinder really low agility ships though
Would this be acceptable as a fix to the Punisher?
What the punisher needs for a fix is an EPT as Uboats has demonstrated the superiority of spending focus to fire missile/torpedoes instead of spending target lock to fire missile torpedoes.
If only there was a sensor upgrade that works like deadeye. Both B-wings and TIE punishers could benefit from a sensor upgrade that does this.
Edited by MarinealverI was able to deduce the formula for ship stats in another thread, but the TLDR is that the TIE-Punisher's stats are worth 15pts when its cheapest cost pilot is 21pts, meaning it's in the range of ~5.0-5.5pts overcosted. That should help you guys when trying to make custom cards, titles, and such.
With that being said, how would you guys prefer to see it buffed? It's overcosted, too squishy for what it is, AND doesn't have the "oomph" you'd expect from a heavy weapons platform. Where do your priorities lie?
Punisher title that states first missile/bomb/torp upgrade is free, as well as EM being equipped free as well.
Punisher only system that gives PTL-like ability, perhaps without stress when using secondary weapons
Punished only mod that allows multiple secondary weapon attacks against multiple targets (Macross Missile Massacre)
The punisher has been punished for too long, it's time for the Punidictor to start spanking other ships for a change.
(Also Puni-shuttle variant that has enough room for Palpy and gunner)
Thinking of the recent rise of he Defender to the dominant position it held in the TIE Fighter game, we all know what was developed to counter it: MISSILE BOAT.
But instead of that little beast we got the Punidictor...with no SLAM. No beam weapons. Nothing. So yeah it's no wonder X7s and Double D Palpy lists are scaring everyone. We are missing one big peice of the puzzle. So, FFG (because I know you follow all my posts because I am awesome), you have two options:
Make the Punisher into a Defender killer.
Or
Give us the MISSILE BOAT. The REAL Missile Boat.
(And GUNBOAT too while you are at it)
That is all.
2 points for a 33% increase in survivability, and you can still equip an offensive title and Guidance chips.

we've been trying out some punisher fixes and what we've found balances pretty well is
"TIE Interdictor - 3pt title
you must equip concussion missiles and proton torpedoes at no additional cost.
you may take two modifications of a cost 1 or less"
simply gives punishers cheaper ordinance and lets them take guidance chips and long range scanners.
we were also looking at giving them something to represent them firing all of their missiles at once in a across missile massacre sort of scenario, but we haven't had time to test it, the best i could come up with which seems like a bit of a cop out was a missile upgrade to rival TLT
"micro missiles - 4pt
missile upgrade (2 slots) , TIE Punisher only
5 dice range 2-3
Attack: Target lock
If the attack hits, deal 2 damage to the defender. Then cancel all dice results. These attack dice may not be modified."
It seems to balance out pretty well considering the dice cannot be modified, average rolls should give you 2.5 hits. Was going to see whether the line "you may not perform this attack against ships that would be obstructed" should be put in there to encourage pilots to try to duck and weave, but I'm not sure...
0 point title that gave you extra munitions with out taking a slot
-3 point title that gave you a VIP shuttle, lose all torp missile and bomb slots but gain 4 crew slots and a disco ball so Palp can have his own party bus
I jusf think it needs to be more beefy, if 5 points overcosted, then a 0pt advanced shield generator title that gives it 3 more shields, but disables its primary weapon. That would make it a beast and make your investment into munition more worthwhile.
Edited by ScienciusOne of the things that stands out to me as a huge difference between the TIE punisher and TIE bomber is the boost vs. barrel roll action, so I am thinking the fix should leverage that action.
- The TIE/v1title gives the TIE Adv. Prototype a free evade action after it acquires a target lock
- IG-88C gives a free evade action after performing a boost action
What if the TIE punisher got a little of both: "After you perform a boost action, you may acquire a target lock and perform a free evade action." Makes it tankier and allows the lower PS ships to get in range to fire their ordnance. It seems a bit heavy handed to me, but to be honest, the TIE punisher needs it. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is that it screams "TIE/x7!!!" at me, and we all know how well those are liked.
Added bonus: with the TIE punisher boosting all the time, they lack focus tokens, so these ships will LOVE to fly alongside Fleet Officer and General Hux, getting more use out of these support cards. Also F-control System would no longer auto-include, so that perhaps Electronic Baffle for K-turn antics or Sensor Jammer for survivability might be considered.
Heavy punisher: you may fire 2 second weapon in 1 attack at the cost of 1 target lock.
Bomber Punisher: you may drop 2 bombs in 1 round.

Amazing....I can not. Maybe I'm just a poor player (probably am), but they are non-glass, not so cannon, glass cannons for me.
K-Wings and Punishers were supposed to be opposite ends of the coin in that Wave. But the "ugly bomber" K-Wing gets its due and can do some real flying and damage (Slam and Turrets being its best, plus Miranda's Shield regen) where the "ugly bomber" Punisher has nothing (well, I guess you can say it has boost) and that doesn't cut it for a military designed missile and bomb platform. To the Jumpmaster being over-designed by FFG and far too good, the Punisher was the opposite of that, under-or-non-designed and over-costed. Flying the Yin will get you on the final tables anywhere, but flying the Yang, if you dare, will not even get you a casual victory.
I want so badly to play it, but, it simply blows......yep.......sadly.......it......blows chunks.
