I mean it may just be a difference in play style and what "gels" well with you, but a regional was won with RAC + Ryad, so it can work.

I've run the same build with Predator at 39 points and been pretty pleased. I expect Expertise would also be good, although a little more maneuver restricted because of the stress caveat. It's going to be meta dependent. If you see a lot of Asajj or other stress dealers, it's going to be 4 points that struggle to be used. It is unquestionably good, though.

I just don't have the knack with a deco. Just a huge target that burns down quickly

Maybe get be due to practice and play style but I prefer 3-4 ship builds the most. Suits my play style

Stress is coming back and to have a 4 pt upgrade shut down doesn't sound too good

Feels likely to be too expensive and to still want to save his focus for defence a lot anyway.

Expertise doesn't spend the focus so you can save it for defence.

If the Deci gers burnt down, your other ships should have high damage output, and in this case, Rexler should be able to burn some stuff down in the meantime.
