Other L5R FFG Products

By Madcap, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

Lots of discussion on the LCG and RPG. What other products do people want to see?

I would love a board game for the classic Scorpion Clan Coup-Clan War-Second Day of Thunder era. I am looking for a wargame/area control a la Ikusa/Samurai Swords/Shogun. It could be expandable with new eras of conflict, new units, etc.

I saw a thread about a Decent/IA style game. That could be interesting, though with 7-9 clans (depending on era) plus Shadowlands, etc., how do you decide on the protagonists and the antagonists?

There is this thread that covers some other thoughts. I like the idea of a GoT-style board game for L5R.

Other ideas?

I would be very much interested in an L5R board game in the territory control/warfare genre. AEG had one promised years ago that never saw release. Personally I am half expecting that game to take the form of a reskinned Samurai on a Rokugan map rather than Japan. Unless FFG has sold that game without anyone knowing, then who knows.

I know I might be in the minority, but I'd love a Twilight Imperium-style Clan Wars game.

What I would anticipate from the L5R Brand:

L5R LCG - Summer / Fall 2017 - Definite (We have been promised this, with a Core Set in August / September 2017, chapter packs each month for six months, and a deluxe expansion at the end of six months, providing some degree of story interaction from GC2017 and setting up the Summer Kotei Season)

L5R RPG - Summer/ Fall 2019 - Likely (There is a sufficient demand, but there will be a turn around time, and minimal support; expect a MASSIVE book clocking in at the $80 to $100 price point)

L5R Boardgame 1 - Summer / Fall 2019 - Likely (Probably a reskin of an existing board game they have purchased, repurposed and adapted for the L5R Brand, to test the waters, expect not linked to any timeline in particular, just a setting approach)

L5R Boardgame 2 - Q2, 2020 - Likely (This will be a board game surrounding the Clan War. Possible even a reskin of the Game of Thrones board game).
L5R Clan War Minatures Game - using the Runewars rules - GenCon 2020 - Unlikely

Anything more than that is requires the L5R LCG to be highly successful.

Art Book please!

I already have the L5R 15 Years of Art book, but I want more... lol

Considering these two recent precedent: The Worlds of Android (already released) and a similar one for their Arkham Horror property (coming soon), the more likely product will be a similar book for Rokugan. It is essentially a RPG sourcebook, with lots of art, but no RPG rules or stats. These are gorgeous products, and the come in a regular version and a deluxe one. The regular is just the book, the deluxe includes several prints, an exclusive playing mat. In the case of AH, it also included 3 preview cards of a coming product, allowing you to play a new investigator early.

This is easy for them: they have the artwork and they have the lore (even if it will have to be rewritten in some way by the new story team) also, playmats are a given. There were AH playmats very soon after release.
