There was a Scyk on at least two regional top tables this weekend; winning one of them
Fixed?
I think so.

I'd say it's still underperforming a little, but it's more than good enough to allow expert players to make it sing. I wouldn't expect to see it at nationals without a bit of a buff though.
I was hoping they might errata the title to make it 'and' instead of 'or' for the slots. Giving it the ability to take LRS would have been that little nudge further it could have used I think.
Personally, I think it still needs Autothrusters, or a way to get them.
Note any and all "fixes" are only for the Heavy Scyk. The base Scyk is still far from viable atm. Though to be fair, the swarm lifestyle isn't viable right now in general (with rare exception for BlackCrack).
I have seen 3/4 pilots used. I'm going to say it is in pretty good position.

Yeah, this bears mentioning. The basic Scyk is not, and I don't think ever will be, viable on its own. Any putative fix will almost certainly come in the form of an upgrade of some kind.

And I think that's okay. Look at the TIE/sf and Arc-170. Those ships are made to take their respective titles. Those titles are essentially rules for the ship that needed to be printed somewhere, but since X-Wing uses cards for rules, they needed to go on a card, and titles made the most sense. I think the Scyk was a primitive version of that. Adding the +1 hull makes it even more of an obvious choice for Scyks than it was before. I'm fine with that.

I didn't say it wasn't OK
I think it's fine based on FFG's methods.
Whilst I wish they would be willing to errata obvious mistakes instead of issuing fix cards, I'm comfortable with the idea that they don't at this point.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to suggest that you didn't like the title being auto-include. I was just stating my thoughts on the matter relatve to your comment. I'm glad we both agree.

Actually, reference cards make far more sense than auto-include titles for rules-heavy ships.
X-Wing 2.0 should have each ship as a reference card, and then each pilot's card could indicate which ships that pilot can fly. This would easily allow cross-ship (and even cross-faction) pilots, and even better for design, any re-balancing of ships could involve changing the reference card (as well as non-auto-include upgrades), since reference cards are printed (and updated) in the FAQ.

I think the kinds of pilot abilities we see would have to change drastically if pilots could fly any ship. I may be wrong, but I think there would be balance issues if the pilot abilities we currently have could be in any ship within their faction. Not to mention that some pilot-ship combinations are not thematic, like Boba Fett in a TIE Advanced, or Dash Rendar in an A-wing, or Talonbane Cobra in an Aggressor.
I do see your point, though. There is something nice and clean about having ship rules on reference cards instead of titles.

I think the first statement is very true. Note that I didn't say "any ship," but (for instance) in the current game, an ability like Maarek's would fit quite well on almost any Imperial ship.
IMO, the design team -- at least pre-Wave 10, on which I'm withholding opinion for now -- learned a tremendous amount -- via on-the-job training -- about designing for a game intended for competition, and I think X-Wing 2.0 will be a significantly better game. (And I say that as someone who has loved X-Wing from the beginning.)
As long as they find a way to avoid forcing players to re-buy models (and I'm not minimizing the difficulty of that), I'm really beginning to hope for X-Wing 2.0.
Anyway, sorry for the derailment. Back on topic: I agree that the en-titled Scyk is mostly fixed, that the wording did not really need to be "or," and that the base Scyk is still useless. (But who knows what's coming?)
Pilots and ships should definitely stay together, but I could easily see a ship rules card instead of the THIS SHIP ONLY generic titles, thus allowing the game to keep titles as... well, the names of specific ships or callsigns.

Sorry but that is Attack Wing and believe me, you don't want that.
Also, take any TIE Fighter Pilot and put them in a X7 Defender and see how fun that gets.
Night Beast: Now it has focus and two evades on a green.
Dark Curse? Good luck.
Mauler? Enjoy your five dice.

There is no "as long as..."the game dies if people have to rebuy.
I would have loved to see the "or" removed and allowed them to take 10pts of upgrades on that frame if you wanted to. Good luck with that. LRS would have probably made it truely fixed.
The issue any sort of conversion kit for a theoretical X-wing 2.0 is that you VASTLY increase the time needed to design and develop. You are talking about probably adding a year on to development. Which is a year FFG is without one of their best selling games.
Also, I am pretty certain that FFG is going to stick to the "rules on the card" style, as that is more accessible to a wider audience.
Scyk turns from "meh" to one of the best scum small ships actually
I think I would disagree that it is fixed, especially without the title. In every Regional there's always a list or two, or ship, that gets in due to being something underestimated which opponents aren't familiar flying against. Serissu in West Virginia almost single handedly won the first time two top table played each other because it was largely ignored, and an HLC is an HLC. In the final match it was the first ship destroyed and killed easily with extreme prejudice. My opinion is that the gimmick of a Scyk on the table attributed to much of it's success, but doesn't have the action economy other similarly pointed ships would have. A survivable Serissu build is over 30 points to start, which is a lot for an Ace without autothrusters. It's already difficult to justify taking a small base Scum anyways with how good their large based ships are.
To that point I've seen Serissu, what other Scyks are seeing time on the top tables?

That is a low bar for small based Scum, though.

A list with a Cartel Spacer with Seismic Torpedoes (yes you read that right) won a regional this weekend.
Heavy Scyk is great.
Vanilla Scyk is primed and ready for a 2nd title that gives it a different characteristic than the Heavy...
...many people have suggested a "Light" version, and since the Striker got something similar to an ability I had recently proposed for the Scyk, I'll offer a new one:
Title: "Zicx Squadron" ( lifted the name from another of my previous suggestions that had the same intent as the Swarm Leader card )
Add the Boost icon to your Upgrade Bar.
After performing a Boost Action, you may perform a free Evade action.
- - - - -
Someone else suggested something along the lines of a free Evade action after performing a green maneuver, which I like... couple that with giving it an Illicit slot and it could be a nifty variant (though would it push out the Z-95?)
- - - - -
Just had a thought, what if this little pest (and I mean that in an endearing way) could take Accuracy Corrector...
(perhaps a 0pt Mod slot that granted the System icon... in fact, this might be a good for Kihxarz as well, to represent the highly customised nature of both ships )
Too much investment in such a fragile ship??

I think Syck is fixed enough to be a filler ship with other highly competitive ships. Not fixed enough to be the focus, or center of a competitive list. So not unlike many other ships.
I like the syck. It's not a featured ship to build a list around, but folks seem to underestimate it. At least the circle of people I play with tend to ignore it until it surprises them. I had a cartel spacer with an ion cannon that effectively shut down Sabine's kwing bomber by making sure the slam could only be done with 1 speed moves (by the ion token it would receive). Granted, that's one game and it doesn't usually work as well, but it can happen when people misjudge what the syck can do.
scyk fix, bro
