Is the Ghost Worth Purchasing?

By Mackaywarrior, in X-Wing

I keep checking that Imperial Veterans price and it keeps not wavering, but dang, the Imperial Raider is down to $57. I just don't have a use for Epic ships at the moment...

If you want to be one of "those guys" you can buy the Raider and part it out. Leading up to Worlds the Palpatine card was selling for around $35 on eBay, just for the one card. Plus you get four copies of the TIE Advanced Title and Advanced Targeting Computer, and there are people buying the base Raider (no upgrades) for $25-40, depending on whether shipping is included or not. I bought a cheap Raider and sold the parts for enough profit to buy a Bespin play mat. :)

I would do it again at $57, but apparently I missed it. The Raider is back up to $64 when I checked just now.

I have a Ghost, and it's fun. Definitely worth getting. I'm considering a second...

I'm done with eBay, so won't be one of those guys. ;-)

Just can't see buying an Epic ship that I may or may not use just to get the cards, but $57 was tempting. Amazon does seem to have some good deals and prices fluctuating lower, so keep checking, it may come back.

It's (the Imperial Raider) only $54.82 this morning! I know airlines move prices up and down based on demand / schedule requirements, but this is crazy...

I got the Raider and Covette around this time last year when they were both cheap (although not quite that cheap). I keep hoping the Gozanti is gonna be on sale some time soon but no sign of it happening yet.

And another eight cents to $54.74. Okay...pushing the button, sold! The Ghost is down a dollar to $27.95.

Price is down again. I figure at the worst, I can part it out at the local convention. Maybe take it to an L A Science Fiction Society game day (though I was told they just sold their clubhouse, but haven't bought a new one yet...maybe before escrow closes).

Fantastic Rebel ship. Good luck trying to figure out if you want Kanan pilot or crew, both are amazing.

This ship is ugly, unwieldy and cards' art is in lame, cartoon style. Unfortunately it is from Disney's Rebels so we have it shoved down our throats. And yes there are great upgrade cards, Which makes me sad because I had to buy this hideous piece of plastic.

While I'm not going to touch on the aesthetics of the ships themselves, the Ghost is a great addition to the Rebel arsenal. It flies unlike anything else in the game, and unlike the Decimator, it can be quite durable, specifically pilot Kanan, but the evade action helps them all quite a bit.

The shuttle is a bit lack luster, but I've seen it played well (Sabine w/ TLT, Chewy, Hull rocked my world during the Scum Invitationals), the dial just takes a bit to get used to since it's rather limited.

And plenty of people have already alluded to the effectiveness of the crew cards, so I don't feel like restating that, but they're all useful.

Finally, for $50 MSRP, you're getting the largest non-epic ship in the game, plus a second shuttle. If you consider the shuttle should be $15 by itself, you're getting a monster of a ship for $35, which is cheaper than the Decimator, ShadowCaster, and other large base ships that are coming in at $40 recently.

OK, so thanks to this thread, I now have both a Ghost and a Decimator on the way for a total of $54.86. SWEET DEAL!!!! Both should be in my house next week. :D

Edit to add: I also think that my wife has already bought the Raider for me since she had no problem with me buying the above two but said I would be in trouble if I was to get the raider at only $4 more money. :D :D

Great epic ship too.

Niceee! Always nice to get plasti. Crack under the tree, or whatever symbol you celebrate!

I plan on getting it myself soon...ish. The rebels show finally grew on me, and while I dont like how Disney rewirtten a lot of the "cannon" of starwars, such as wedge's, the Ghost has grew on me, almost more then the Falcon has as a nice ship to "live" on as a base of operations. That and it kinda reminds me of the WWII Bombers with the way the cockpit and turrets are set up, and to me, thats always a nice thing.

I'm looking forward to putting two Ghosts on the table.

I was this close (fingers really close together) to buying a second Decimator at the same time, but I'm going to wait until after the holiday expenses are all in for that one.

2 Lothal Rebels with FCS and a Gold squadron Y-wing with TLT is pretty brutal. 40 Hull points to chew through and 14 Red dice per turn. You even have a few points spare to put Hera on one and Nien Nunb on the other to improve their maneuverability.

I didn't like the models of Ghost or Phantom either. They don't feel Star Wars, with the first being "WW2 bomber meets rhombus, in space" and the latter looking like some shuttle from Star Trek.

But the gameplay value of both pieces makes up for it, whether together, or not. Let me leave some comments for whoever asks himself the OT question, too.

It is definitely worth buying if you play Rebels at all.

Lothal is easily one of the most point-efficient Rebel ships when it comes to bare stats. The platform sports a great variety of upgrade icons, to fill a couple roles, and for as low as 38 points you have plenty of life, 4 red dice, TLs from FCS and can take endless reds (Kois!) with Hera. If you don't want to put any more points into it, you can still add Chopper, coming at zero, to trade 1 HP for a Focus when you're stressed, but really want something dead.

Which brings us to the second point,THE crew.

The pack contains one of the strongest sets of crew upgrades in one box imho. Hera is simply amazing for the price, Sabine's defines Rebel bomb carriers like some Terrorist Palpatine for 2 points , Kanan is effectively changing whole dials into greens for YTs (and enables the new Falcon title stress-free sloops!), while Zeb and Ezra can have some use unlike certain new releases (coughmalbusbistanrexcough) and Chopper is a 0-point filler, which is always nice.

Then there's the whole Ghost+Phantom titles story, which enables r1 circle of death with AC and Autoblaster Turret, or 4 TLT shots per round, whichever's your flavor. I'm recently running the latter (Kanan with: FCS, Rey, Dash, TLT, title, docked Zeb with Chopper, title, Braylen with Stressbot, Gunner and title) and am amazed how strong and fun it is to fly.

Last but not least, Kited out Attack Shuttles come in at 22+ points, which is where the faction was very lacking when it comes to ships with nice abilities. Crew slot coupled with Turret and an ok dial put HWKs to shame. Sabine's ability steals the show a bit, but Rage Ezra with upcoming Inspiring Recruit sounds like a great filler too.

So there, now go get it.

:)

Id recommend getting it! But, good luck storing it in a plano box!
