A-A

By Moon1n1te, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi folks, just got into X-wing and am looking for some advice on a list I might build for reigonals.

Dash Rendar
PTL
Mangler Cannon
Kyle Katarn
Outrider

51 pts

Green Squadron Pilot
19pts

Green Squadron Pilot

19 pts

This is only sitting at 89 points but I am unsure what upgrades to give the A wings or even if this is viable list. The general idea is to have something highly maneuverable.

Any feedback?

Cheers

I would personally prefer Heavy Laser cannon to Mangler and Kanan over Kyle. While Kyle gives you greater action economy, he limits you to the Green moves which makes you predictable (and hence blockable). The great thing about the YT-2400 is the selection of whites on the dial. Being able to go anywhere fast and still ditch stress is more valuable than the extra Focus IMHO. A lot of people like EU on Dash and it can be great but is less necessary for Kanan builds than Kyle because you are less likely to get predicted.

For the A-wings, Chaardan and Autothrusters are great for improving their survivability and A-wing test pilot gives you 2 EPTs. Crackshot is great and cheap for pushing damage through. PTL is a good choice with the greens. Some people like Juke but I find it risky on PS3 as you may well spend your Evade tokens before you get a chance to fire.

I would probably run the following.

54 Dash Rendar (36), Outrider (5), HLC (7), PTL (3), Kanan (3)
23 Green squadron pilot (19), Chaardan refit (-2), Autothrusters (2), Crack shot (1), Push the Limit (3)

I went with what Karhedron had - and just gave it a tweak. I noticed the OP said he doesn't have a lot of sets in a previous post so I thought I would try to mitigate some purchases needed by using up some HotR stuff:

Dash Rendar (36)
Lone Wolf (2)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Rey (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Outrider (5)

Green Squadron Pilot (19)
Crack Shot (1)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Snap Shot (2)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Green Squadron Pilot (19)
Crack Shot (1)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Snap Shot (2)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Total: 100

I know must people like Kanaan Dash, but I like the action economy from Rey (plus she is HotR). It hampers the dial a bit but the Outrdier isn't all that terrible. Without Kaana clearing stress PTL is less good IMO, so I went with dice mods - both offense and defense. Thoughts/?

Lone Wolf/Rey Dash is surprisingly good; I consider it one of the game's better-kept secrets ^_^

Without PTL, Engine Upgrade too becomes less of a must-pick; you could add snuggling compartments, your favorite illicit, and something like counter-measures.

How about something like this:

Dash Rendar (36)

Lone Wolf (2)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Rey (2)

Inertial Dampeners (1)

Smuggling Compartment (0)

Countermeasures (3)

Outrider (5)

I prefer scavenging crane, and I don't realistically see inertial dampeners ever being useful, but sure, it's good.

So scavenger the Countermeasures? Sounds good.

EDIT: That's one point too many with the 22pt A-wings.

Lots of ideas to mull through here. My main concern was that dual A wings with dash wasn't a viable tournament list but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I think that Dash and A-wings can work well together. The A-wings are slippery customers while Dash's HLC can lay down the hurt against all but the toughest of Aces.

That was the general idea, support the surprisingly agile dash with some A-Wings. Arc Dodge for most of the game. If using the Mangle cannon I would eat away at shields with the A wings and then try and get some crits with Dash.

This list has performed well for me (on a casual level), and I can't wait to slide in a Dash once I own a YT-2400. The point is, these A's are mean little blockers and the wired/PTL combo really does keep them hard to hit. Just my 2 cents :)

Falcon/A-Wings (100)

Chewbacca (54) - YT-1300 (Is 54pt Dash viable??)

Predator (3), Gunner (5), C-3PO (3), Millennium Falcon (1)

Green Squadron Pilot (23) - A-Wing

Push The Limit (3), Chardaan Refit (-2), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Autothrusters (2), Wired (1)

Burnout SLAM? No attack, but great way to reset your position if something's in your donut hole.
